More or less 450 sq ft/42 sq m

A retreat, this cottage is a small but charming two room plantation green cottage with white trim that sleeps two. A great honeymoon retreat.

Rustic in its simplicity, this cottage was designed in the single wall construction popular during the 1930's and which has been lovingly restored with tropical ceiling fans in each room.

An open air cemented lanai covers most sides of the cottage

The kitchen is well supplied with dishes, utensils, pots and pans, table, chairs, a double deep sink, refrigerator, a two gas burner stove, and toaster oven.

Cool Spanish pavers tile the floors throughout. Custom cabinetry is found in both rooms. The indoor shower is attractively lined with alpine slate. A pedestal sink graces the bathroom.

The only bedroom has a queen sized bed, a radio/CD / MP 3 player with a compliment of CD's. There is a flat panel TV connected to cable. There is a DVD player and WIFI internet access.

To adjust you to the island pace and way of life, we have eliminated telephones. Most major cell phone carriers work.

Includes towels and linens.

The laundry area is shared with Rainbow House, with a private entrance giving you access to a tiled laundry area equipped with a washer and dryer.

Located conveniently more or less a block from the beach and town of Hanalei.

About Owner/Property Manager

As a Cuban refugee I grew up on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico where I learned to surf. It was surf that brought me to Kaua'i where in 1984 with my brother we founded Kayak Kauai. I love my customers and in 1994 I married one of them and now spend 1/2 the year in Los Angeles with all my feisty girls (it's a matriarchy) and the other half hands on with Kayak Kauai.

Hope you enjoy your stay on Kaua'i, which has to rival any island on the globe.

Saludos y Aloha, Micco

Owner/Property Manager purchased this cottage in 1993

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Hanalei

Ever since I sailed into Hanalei on a 48 foot ketch, it was my dream to live in Hanalei.

It has been my good fortune to have a fun outdoor adventure business but to also be in biking/walking distance of my vacation rental/home and of course, the SURF!

While much of Hawaii is quite beautiful, Hanalei is in a league of it's own.

What makes this cottage unique

I would say what I like overall about my property, is not having to get into a car each time I want to go to the beach. My property location is moments away from not only the bay but some great surf. The small town of Hanalei is also in walking distance.

If you end staying at the Cottage, try this:

Wake up and before the cobwebs of sleep are gone, walk in a Zombie like state to the beach, and take a dip in the ocean. It is an electric way to start the day.

If you patronize Kayak Kaua'i, mention you are staying at the Cottage or Rainbow House for a 10% discount off any tour and/or rentals.

Fantastic cottage and great owner!

If you’re looking for the perfect laid back Hanalei experience this place is perfect. We arrived to find beach chairs, boogie boards, an umbrella, and cooler waiting for us on the patio. It’s in the middle of Hanalei Bay shoreline and Ching Young Village where all the shops are. The location is perfect. We rented bikes from Pedal & Paddle for the week (Tip: reserve them in advance). The cottage is fully stocked with cooking and barbecue essentials. We also found a coffee grinder and pour over to make our Kauai coffee. The cottage windows are permanently open with screens attached so you have a constant breeze and can hear the birds chirping and rain falling. It took a little getting used to, but the breeze felt great and listening to the rain was peaceful. The meandering roosters will wake you nice early, but heck that’s all of Kauai! There is nice laundry facility onsite and a hose to rise off after coming back from the beach. The beach is walking distance and there are 3 different access points. I wish we stayed longer here but we decided to move to the other side to explore the island before heading home from our honeymoon. I highly recommend this for an adventurous couple.

Owner's Response: Christina, WOW! Nicest review to "come down the beach" in a long time. Was nice meeting you both and again...thanks for a very nice review. Enjoy your keiki, when he or she arrives: they are a blessing. A hui hou. Micco

Wonderful sweet cottage.

We really enjoyed The Cottage. We were able to walk to the beach and Hanalei town all the time and barely used the car. With Haena being closed we spent most of our time in Hanalei. The Cottage was just perfect for my daughter and myself. Loved it! The only I wish they had is a little couch on the patio. Other then that it was perfect.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your nice and kind review. Want it even more perfect...will try to find as you suggested some sort of outdoor couch for the patio. Thanks again and until then. A hui hou, Micco

It was an adventure

The cottage is very well set up for one or two folks. The kitchen has all you will need - minus an oven. There are beach towels, boogie boards, beach chairs all available. The bed is comfortable and the sheets are soft. All paper products - paper towels, tissue, soap etc. is provided unlike other VRBO's where we've stayed. The cottage is a 10 minute walk to the beach and a 5 minute walk to town. At night the sound of the waves will lull you to sleep. It's a great, comfortable, rustic spot to enjoy Hanalei.

Lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

Great little cottage in the best location in Hanalei. Very private and perfect for a couples getaway. Walking distance to beach and shops. We were stuck with 4 days of heavy rain so we spent a lot of time in the cottage and felt very comfortable. To give this place 6/5 stars, I would update the bed & pillows! Thankyou Micco!

Owner's Response: Aloha Jono, Thanks for taking the time to share your impression of the Hanalei Cottage. Sorry about the rain. We did just order some new pillows. What specifically where your concerns about the bed; the mattress is relatively new? Thanks again and hope you caught a wave for me during your stay. A hui hou, Micco

This unit is all about it's location. You can easily walk to the beach and walk to everything the town of Hanalei has to offer. The great restaurants, shopping, beach rentals and more. The cottage offers the basics. Be advised there is a new home in the framing process right next door and construction starts at 7:30 in the morning and goes Monday thru Friday. So needless to say, this was not disclosed to us as we were looking for a quiet place for some rest and relaxation on our visit to this side of the island and the early morning wake up call of pounding nails was not a hit with us.

Owner's Response: Aloha Kathy, Sorry for delay in getting back to you. Back from Nepal and now on line 24/7. Thanks for sharing and alerting folks that for some there could be noise issues due to construction next door. It was this summer, during the noisier framing phase that I had one instance of clients bringing it to my attention. For rest of clients staying at the Cottage, it was not an issue. You were there during the "quieter" inside finish work and the owners next door have been sensitive to the potential of noise all along. They are off during the holidays and their new year resolution is to be finished in the next few months. Thanks again and Happy Holidays. Micco
