Why Angela Mason chose Sylva
We absolutely love the mountains & nature at it's best! Many of the attractions are located nearby. We enjoy hiking, going to the casino, window shopping, looking at the antiques, & going to the auction on Friday's.
What makes this House unique
We enjoy the peace & quiet on the 4 acres. You can hear the relaxing water from the creek as you enjoy a homecooked breakfast or lunch on the porch. Also, there is entertainment from the hummingbirds that come to visit the hummingbird feeder located on front porch. We've even placed beach chairs in the creek or better yet, just sit right in the cold creek to cool off from the summer temperature. We can go into town & do antiquing, shopping. Also, Blue Ridge Parkway entrance is approx. 20 minutes away. We make a picnic breakfast or lunch & enjoy picnicing in the Parkway. When you want to go on the wild side, there is tubing in Bryson City (nearby) & rafting at nearby Nantahala. Also, Cherokee's Harah's Casino can be an adventure too with free coffee & soda as you play the nickle/dime slots.

Spacious and Private for Two Families of Seven Adults
Because of previous reviews, we rented sight unseen for Thanksgiving weekend. We have family living nearby, so earlier in the year when we were in the area, I drove out to the property twice. It is a remote and beautiful location, and one that you definitely need to find in the daytime! We liked that the upstairs and downstairs are closed off from each other so that family units can have privacy. My husband and I and a grown son took the two downstairs bedrooms, and another couple and two grown daughters took the two upstairs bedrooms.
Everything was well-maintained and spotlessly clean. The kitchen and dining areas are spacious and easy to navigate. The kitchen had most everything we needed by way of dishes and pans. We brought our own paper goods to minimize cleanup. I wish there had been a teakettle, but used the microwave for my hot tea. If you plan to cook, bring your own oil along with your other food items. Coffee filters, salt and pepper were available. If you plan to use the dishwasher or laundry often, bring your own detergents to supplement the minimal supplies in stock. Be sure you bring your own soap, extra toilet paper, paper towels and tissues, because there is only enough to carry you through until you can get your own.
Be prepared, because once you get on the mountain, you may not want to leave! I think this was the most beautiful property frontage on the road. While other family enjoyed napping on the sofas or rocking on the porch, I enjoyed photographing the moss and fern-covered rocks just below the house along the banks of Cane Creek.
The Wifi quality varied, but who cares? If you seek entertainment, this is not the place for you! If you wish to be left alone, to rest or think or hike with some peace and quiet, you will love it.
Great Alumni Weekend Retreat
We are WCU alumni who enjoy getting together for a weekend and going to a football game. The house is the perfect size for our group! The front porch is our favorite spot to hang out! Thank you for sharing your lovely home!
the house was ok but the our stay was not
We booked this place for 4 days to get away from the hurricane, we ended up staying only 2 because we had no power from the storm which up there means no water. There were no candles or flashlights our phones where dying from having to use the flashlights on them. The water is on a pump system which means no power no water, the owner literally told me to go wash in the creek at the end of the driveway. I asked about the roads before hand and never got an answer but you do need an SUV or 4x4 to get there. There's a box Tv with satalite but the screen is out so bring activities. The house was outdated but it was big and the rooms where big. The beds were horrible all of our backs were killing us the next days. After 2 days no power and needing food and showers we all left and just spent more money and stayed at a hotel in downtown Sylva. You can't get up or down the mountain at night so going out to eat was out of the question. I'm sure under certain circumstances we would have enjoyed our entire stay but it's just luxury camping at this place. Wish the owners would invest a little more into the property since once you're there you are kinda stuck there. The only thing we enjoyed was the front porch since it was so big it became our gathering place. There's no real view besides the side of a hill There is a grill, washer dryer, and dishwasher. Once we read the "manual" we found out we had to take all of our trash to another sight miles away. We didn't have room for that in our cars and we shouldn't have to be responsible for it either and we had to strip all the beds and start laundry. I could have stayed in Charleston that had power to do all that work Just don't expect much.
It is a Beautiful place nestled back in the mountains
This place is a beautiful house very roomy, has everything needed, very clean, comfortable beds, the only reason not 5 star is road get there is I bet primitive, but very doable, we road Harleys in with not much challenge, owners very nice!
The house was exactly as advertised. The layout was great for our purpose. The Tennessee porch was even better than the pictures made it look
The house was great. It was very clean. Loved the creak and setting on the porch. Would stay again. Thanks
