About David Woodland

David and Wendy enjoy hiking and being out in nature and love living in Santa Fe where the sunsets and skies are breathtaking. David has two wonderful grown kids and Both Wendy and David are semi-retired. David is an avid golfer and hiker and Wendy is a sculptor and painter. They enjoy traveling and together have been on great adventures in Italy, Vancouver, Greece, Turkey and various states in the US. They like dogs and allow well-behaved ones to stay at their Sky Island Casitas. They love their property with gorgeous views in Santa Fe and are happy to share it with others. They see a lot of interesting films, listen to speakers, take cooking classes, enjoy live theater and all kinds of music. They enjoy meeting the many interesting people who have come to Sky Island Casitas for the last 6 years.

Why David Woodland chose New Mexico

David fell in love with Santa Fe, and after visiting as often as possible from Austin Texas for many years, he found that the property he often stayed at was for sale. So he bought it and chose to share it with others. Wendy came later and was blown away by the beautiful view and lovely gardens. They love meeting the people who stay here and are not surprised that many return year after year.

What makes this house unique

We love the privacy and quiet of this property combined with the convenience of being minutes from hiking or downtown. We are surrounded on all sides by undeveloped land. We watch magnificent sunsets and lightening shows from our balcony. Sky Island Casitas has three houses on the property, but they all are secluded and private.

Perfect retreat near town and trails

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the casita at the end of July. It was the perfect get away from our usual busy, urban lifestyle. So quiet I didn't want to leave! Town and hiking trails are a short distance away. The kitchen is well stocked including a blender, many utensils and pots/pans. The shelves of the living room overflow with movies and books. The best spot is outside on the patio watching lightning strikes in the distant mountains as the sun sets. David and Wendy are great hosts. They checked in but did not hover.

There is a new air conditioning unit that really chilled the house down although most days were mild enough we just opened the windows and ran the fan.

I highly recommend this home for its quiet and comfort.

very quiet & relaxing

  • 5 of 5

While a short distance to biking, hiking, and the galleries, we found ourselves just wanting to hang out at the casita. It was so quiet and has a great view of the area. Some peace at last!

Added so much to our stay in Santa Fe!!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Casita was wonderful. We so enjoyed having our morning coffee, and evening wine sitting in front taking in the view of Santa Fe and the mountains in the distance. It was so peaceful and quiet, we saw the Milky Way at night and actually heard coyotes. All this, and only 10 minutes to everything we wanted to do in the city. The casita was clean and comfortable and equipped with all we needed, we made our breakfast and dinners at home. The owners were responsive to anything we needed, while allowing us complete privacy. We would gladly return, except for more than a week!

Perfect Santa Fe spot

  • 5 of 5

This Casita was a perfect place for to spend a few days relaxing in Santa Fe. It is secluded, yet close to the center of town (no more than 10 minutes drive). The Casita was very clean and looks exactly as pictured. The owners have done an excellent job of providing most everything anyone would need to the interior of the Casita. All in all, it was a perfect place for a getaway. An added plus is that the owners are pet friendly.

Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this casita and hope to visit again soon. It's totally quiet and private, up high enough in the hills to get great views and yet is just a few minutes from downtown. The casita is small but very comfortable for two or three people. We had everything we needed in terms of dishes and towels, and there was a fantastic collection of videos. David and Wendy had great information about some of the places we wanted to see and generously shared it. We highly recommend staying here.
