Hi, we are the Reeds, Sheldon & Mary Anne. We have a friendly golden retriever named Harley and three beautiful horses. Because our 4 acre Florida home is very private and tucked away in the woods...we wanted our mountain vacation house to be located in town. Dillsboro is the perfect location. There is so much to see and do all within walking distance.Zoom in on the map below to see how the Reed House is centrally located.
The Owner purchased this house in 2007
After taking a motorcycle trip with friends to the Smoky Mountains in the fall of 2006, we fell in love with the quaint little town of Dillsboro, NC. Returning three months later we saw a 'For Sale' sign on an adorable two story 100+ year old house. Close to a year was spent driving 1400 miles round trip to update & renovate our new purchase. It was worth every bead of sweat, every dollar spent, and every mile driven. We love our mountain house and its perfect in town location.
Beautiful mountain views off the front porch and back deck. Within walking distance to shops, restaurants, playground, river tubing and train depot.
Cute renovated old house with large fenced yard. The house & location were great, a/c, appliances, wi-fi worked well.
Loved the Smokehouse across the street. Got take out three times. Dog and I loved the front porch watching everything go by.
Need to CAUTION anyone renting from VRBO that the house is not easily accessible to anyone not physically fit. Parking is way up on a hill necessitating a climb down stone & wooden steps to the house. Hubby is 80 & I am 73, needless to say it was difficult to get our things to and from the house. Owner uses a realtor whom we called for assistance however their machine stated that they were away for the weekend so we were left on our own.
We stayed in the Reed House in November 2015. It was wonderfully decorated inside with fall colors. It is within very easy (directly across these street) walking distance of numerous restaurants, many stores, and one of the Smokey Mountain Railroad stops. There are two bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs, and a full bathroom on the main floor. The house was built in the early 1900s but has been remodeled to be comfortable for current day needs (bathrooms, kitchen, closets) without losing it's historic charm. Very comfortable for four adults.
It just dawned on me that we have never done a review here on VRBO for the Reed House.. even though we have been staying there for years!
First of all, as I said we have been staying here for years. This is a wonderful old home that is well maintained and shows the owners truly care about the guests having a wonderful experience. The other thing that is so fantastic, is it's pet friendly with a huge fenced in yard. Again, something that is very hard to find for a vacation rental.
The home is in a great location is the town of Dillsboro. We have been vacationing here for years. Not only is the location great for Dillsboro, but you are a short drive to many other wonderful places such as Asheville, Waynesville, Bryson City and on and on. Dillsboro is a great little town with some wonderful places to eat, shop and to relax!
The house we find to be perfect for us. Just in case you are with anyone who has mobility issues, please be aware that there are stairs that you have to take to reach the house, as well as in the house. If you don't have mobility issues, you won't have any problems. The home is well maintained, clean and so vert comfortable.
In all the years we have been staying we have never had one issue. The owners take a great deal of pride in this home and have done everything to make sure it's well maintained and comfortable. Our two dogs love the huge yard and being completely fenced we don't have to worry at all about them.
If you are looking for someplace that is cozy, well maintained, in a great location, and in a town where it is possible to relax and unwind, yet have several places to eat, shop or explore all within a short distance, check out the Reed House.
Also, the company that manages the rentals for the Reed House is one of the best we have ever dealt with. We have had some experiences with other rentals and management companies and I can say we have never been disappointed with either!
What a great time in Dillsboro. My wife & I along with our 2 kids really loved staying here. Everything is in walking distance! Great little shops of all types. Christmas shop, bakery, Ice Cream shop, etc. If you have younger kids, you can also walk to a pottery shop. Everyone was so nice, good small town folks make you feel welcome. The BBQ restaurant is literally across the street. This is a great central location, we were a short drive away from whitewater rafting in Bryson City, and other small towns we visited. The house was clean, clean sheets, bathrooms and showers were clean and the kitchen is fully stocked to cook and eat in if you want to take a break from restaurants. We will definately stay here again!
Unusually great time in a quaint older home in an extremely interesting small town. We stayed in Dillsboro during the last week of the Christmas light festival (or luminary festival) and enjoyed every minute of it. It was fun and special just to walk the streets after dark and listen to the bands and singers, and then peruse the specialty shops. Everyone was so friendly and cordial and we even received a free meal from the owner of the Dillsboro Smokehouse. Real down to earth, hometown folk. All three of my shelties had a great time as well with the spacious and secure yard. My wife especially loved the home that was toasty warm in the cold December climate. We have decided that a return to the same place is a must and are already planning our next trip.
This pet friendly home took us back to the good old days with all the charm of yester year!
It was very clean and well decorated. We stayed over Christmas and experienced all the charm of an old house with lovely decorations. We went to the candlelight Christmas service DT Sylva on Christmas Eve and then opened our gifts around your delightful Christmas tree. Thank you Reeds for a memorable Christmas!
