Hunting Hawk Lodge for an Appalachian spring

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Hunting Hawk Lodge is a custom built structure reminiscent of the homes the settlers built in the Cades Cove area of the Smokey Mountians National Park. The Lodge is all wood, giving comfort and security to all who visit.

There is one private bedroom with a queen bed and a loft with a queen. With a queen futon in the livingroom the Lodge is a cozy cave for six. There is one bath with a clawfoot tub/shower. There is a telephone for local calls, fully equipped kitchen, hot tub, internet, outdoor grill, although rarely necessary, air conditioning units are installed for the warmer months and yes, if you must ... satellite television with dvd player. Our home has all the flavor of a rustic Appalachian shelter with the added creature comforts our ancestors wanted.

Our land boarders Pisgah National Forest and the North Fork of the French Broad River. The North Fork fishing is truly outstanding. Also we have two stocked ponds if you are just feeling too lazy to walk the extra hundred yards to the river.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful! The mornings were cool in the 70s and every afternoon brought a thunderstorm. We ventured out a little to sliding rock, Looking Glass Falls and the country back roads but we mostly spent time at the cabin exploring this property. We even caught a fish in the pond! Every morning we enjoyed coffee on the porch in rocking chairs and our evenings in the hot tub. Its so nice to get away from reality for a while. We cooked every meal here. The kitchen is very well stocked. Thanks Brent. This has been such a wonderful experience for Mafus and I, so much that we are considering canceling our honeymoon in Jamaica and coming here instead! Thanks again.

My son will be joining the Army April 11, he and I wanted to take one last fishing and hiking trip to somewhere we have never been. The search to find a suitable cabin for our venture was exhaustive and difficult (wanted it to be a great experience for the both of us). I can honestly say this was the perfect cabin for our vacation. Brent has every detail mastered from the hot tub, the fire pit, the fully stocked kitchen to provide a 'true' log cabin experience. We live in Charleston, SC and couldn't think of a better way to spend the week than hiking the mountains and fishing the rivers (and ponds). Thanks for your hospitality Brent...we will definately be back!!

Rustic get away!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our rustic get away at this remote cabin. This place is about 20mins outside of Brevard and very peaceful. Cozy fit for our family of 4. It was clean and beds were comfortable, plenty of fire wood for the stove and we enjoyed grilling steaks and getting in the hot tub.

Only complaint is there are limited towels and hot water. But the host is very responsive and accommodating.

Ideal cabin

  • 5 of 5

My fiance and I truly enjoyed our stay. The cabin is beautifully secluded. Unlike some places that appear private from the photos, Hunting Hawk is truly to itself and feels like another world while still being a short drive to town or the national parks. The cabin itself is stunning in it's build and furnishing, simple yet comfortable. The hot tub is a great addition, too, especially in the cold mountain temperatures. Unfortunately our time was cut short due to extreme temperatures causing the pipes to freeze, but the owner was responsive and helpful. We would definitely love to return in the future.

Beautiful cabin and great location. Dog and kid friendly. WiFi works great; but there is no phone service (Verizon) however there is a land line for emergency.

Perfect Rustic Cabin

Great rustic cabin. 15 min to Blue Ridge Parkway. Not for those seeking frills. Affordable, simple cabin with a great hot tub.

A beautifully secluded, authentic cabin experience with breathtaking views and quality comfort!

  • 5 of 5

After hours spent searching for just the right cabin (for our first Autumn cabin getaway), we couldn’t have asked for a better choice than this one! This sweet cabin is nestled on a hill in a gorgeous wooded area that overlooks breathtaking mountain views. This cabin is an actual log cabin, with beautiful handcrafted porch and staircase railings both inside and out, an adorable kitchen, a wood burning oven, vaulted ceilings, and gorgeous master room up on a loft. It’s pet friendly, and our sweet Labradoodle has a blast! My favorite part was the hot tub! Pristinely kept and with a perfect view of the mountains. The nearby trails were so fun to hike with our pup, and we didn’t even have to drive to get to them! We did drive about 2 minutes to visit the falls at Living Waters Ministry... and that was most definitely the highlight of the trip. Beautiful cascading falls, bubbling river, amazing trails, and gorges that would make you feel like an ant! The owner of the cabin, Mr. O’Connor, was easily reached for questions and incredibly accommodating. You can tell he takes excellent care of his property. My only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer... we can’t wait wait to return!

Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) is less than five miles from the Lodge. It is worth the trip simply to visit this facility. Formally the Rosman Satellite Tracking Station, PARI is a not-for -profit foundation which boasts the best radio and optical telescopes east of the Mississippi open to the public. This is the best kept secret in WNC. (
