About Rick or Dana Cox

Moved to the awesome NC mountains from FL in 2003. We enjoy sharing our cabin in the woods.

Rick or Dana Cox purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Rick or Dana Cox chose Blue Ridge Mountains

The Boone/Todd area is probably one of the most beautiful areas in the USA. After living in Alabama and South Florida and traveling this great nation, I have come to love not only the scenery, but the friendliest people in the country.

What makes this cabin unique

3 acre lake with fishing, swimming and pedal boat rental on property. Three Top Creek is located on property and is a North Carolina stocked trout stream.

Quiet and peaceful getaway. Perfect place to get back to nature and relax

  • 5 of 5

I truly enjoyed my time at the Windwalker Cabin. It was remote enough that I couldn't see another home from the cabin which gave me the peace and quiet I was looking for. The cabin itself had everything I needed from, comfortable bed and linens, to a kitchen will all the cookware needed to prepare my own meals, and a nice outdoor space to soak in the sounds of nature and take in the starry nights. And it had what I didn't need/want as well. No cell service, no tv shows (tv with DVD player available if you must watch something), and no internet in the cabin (but wi-fi provided at Rick and Dana's house so I could check in when need be) The weather was perfect, didn't need AC or heat. Just left the windows open and ceiling fans spinning. Wish I could have stayed longer and can't wait to make it back there.

Long Birthday Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the cabin with our 2 kids and puppy! I wish we would have had more time to explore the property but enjoyed all the beautiful things we did get to see. We would go back again.

Inside was very clean. Very quiet and relaxing. Outside needed some TLC. Landscaping not as pictured on the outside. Grass needed to be mowed. Bushes needed to be groomed. Very small property.

Owner's Response: Landscaping is done weekly, but we've had a ton of rain and everything is growing like crazy. The bushes are blueberries and don't require grooming especially this time of year. Sorry about the photos, they are a couple years old and trees have grown. Property is 30 acres which is pretty large here in the mountains. Thanks again for staying with us! Glad you loved our clean, quiet and relaxing cabin.

Perfect Mini-Vacation Getaway for a Small Family of Four

  • 4 of 5

This vacation rental is perfect for a couple or small family of four, such as ours, with two small children. The bedroom and living areas are at separate ends of the rental, so there is privacy. Given the age of our small children, one slept comfortable on the sofa and the other slept in a portable crib we use for travel. (The sofa's upholstery is in need of cleaning or slipcover, but was otherwise fine for sitting.) The kitchen was well stocked and provided all essentials for quick or full meal preparation. The only hassle is that there is no direct access out to the grilling area, so you have to walk around the house. My husband and I commented several times how the house almost needed to be turned around to face the rear or the patio/grilling area needed to be in-front of the home. However, this does not in anyway hamper the good time to be had in the outdoor area. Plus the little touches the owner provided such as a handwritten welcome note, rope lighting to illuminate the cabin's doorway, musical ambiance upon arrival, and plentiful towels and linens more than made up for minor inconveniences such. Another thing for future renters to note is that there was no cable/satellite services or Wi-fi; therefore, if staying connected is a must for you, then this wouldn't be the place for you. There is a tv in the living area with dvd which allowed us to have a family movie night by picking up a Redbox and relaxing after a day of exploring. Again, the lack of these services didn't bother us, but would greatly bother some, especially since cellular service was rather spotty as well. The road to the property is gravel and a bit bumpy. Four wheel drive is not necessary, but it was nice to have an SUV to make the ride up and down the road a little smoother, especially when returning with small sleeping children. Many local attractions and places to venture about are within driving distance and a binder of places is provided, if you are looking for more options. Night time is absolutely gorgeous because you can see stars without the bother of interfering lights. On a starless and moonless night though, I could see things being a bit spookier which would make for a perfect setting for s'mores and ghost stories. So, if you are looking to get away with loved ones to reconnect and enjoy the simplicity of things, then this is a perfect rental to do so at. The owners are great to work with, the place holds true as advertised, and we would return.
