My wife, three year old daughter and I spent a couple of weekends at Rugby's this spring. We couldn't appreciate his hospitality or home any more. We had everything there in the house we could ask for (gas grill, fully stocked kitchen, fireplace, new LCD TV's for night, and last but not least amazing views). The location is perfect for anyone who wants to be minutes from downtown Cashiers, but also close to some of the best hiking in the area in Panthertown. We can't wait to go back!
My wife and I came to this beautiful area for some "us" time. This home, positioned on the side of a mountain, certainly delivered! Beautiful views from every room of the wooded valley below. Somewhat secluded from all other homes so it felt very private. Although there appeared to be some nice restaurants nearby, we opted to shop at the really nice grocery store a few miles away for foods to cook on the grill that was available on the beautiful deck. Fabulous hiking trails at Panthertown Valley very close by with waterfalls and more fabulous views, quaint shops in Cashiers and Highlands..and a great hot tub waiting for us at the end of the day. We've loved our time here and could not have asked for more. I'd recommend this home to anyone else wanting a little "us" time. Thanks, Rugby--for such a wonderful place!
We were looking for a peaceful, cozy, end of the road cabin with a fireplace, good beds, and a spectacular mountain view. We hoped for a sunny location with a noisy stream and a hot tub. We needed a good road and easy access to groceries and restaurants. But mostly, we wished for a warm, picture perfect place to spend the Christmas holidays. Amazingly, Rugby's House gave us all of this. But we also unwittingly found ourselves in the very place we'd always dreamed of, a place which we (and many others, as we discovered in the guest book) found to be enchanting.
I can tell you this is a fairy tale mountain cabin, but this is something you'll just have to discover on your own. Photos cannot do justice to the setting or the house; you'll simply have to see the brilliant morning sun filling the entire house from the large windows overlooking the rock faced mountains and Lonesome Valley. And you'll just have to experience for yourself the pure pleasure of sitting in the hot tub listening to the loud, boisterous stream just beneath you while the wind whistles through the pines above your head. And the stars...oh my! They're huge and bright in the clear air of the mountains. Look for Orion gliding past you in the winter sky while you enjoy a crackling fire inside the house. Heavenly!
The magic of Rugy's House is everywhere, but it uncovers itself slowly, and you'll find yourself stopping to enjoy the house's treats as they reveal themselves. Don't miss the illuminated zebra, the perfectly selected antique furnishings, and the joyful animal art Rugby has collected.
Equally compelling discoveries lie outside of the cabin. Each day the weather dresses the mountains and the spectacular valley below with endlessly varied colors, moods, and perspectives. It's truly a now you see it, now you don't magic trick. Mountains disappear in the fog and country roads appear out of nowhere. Just when you think you've finally seen the view, it changes.
If you can tear yourself away from the house, go up the driveway and at end turn right and you're 10 minutes from Panthertown Valley and a true wilderness hike; go left and you're 10 minutes from Buck's Coffee, our favorite.
Rugby's House constantly surprised and delighted us.There's a sign in the kitchen that says "Imagine the Possibilities." This describes Rugby's house better than I ever could.
We found the house by luck and with luck we'll be back again and again.
First of all- You feel right at home, so comfortable and homey. The decor is understated, chic and tastefully appointed. Secondly- Love the horse! Third -The hot tup and the twinkling lights are the perfect ending to a wonderful evening. Loved it and highly recommend this wonderful cabin.. Opps I forgot to mention the view...spectacular sunrises!!!
This is a fantastic mountain cabin with unbelievable views. The outdoor space is wonderful for dinner or just relaxing and enjoying the view. You are only a 5 minute drive to Panthertown Park which has fantastic hiking! We spent two days wandering around the park, enjoying the fall foliage and waterfalls! The grocery and town is only 10 minutes down the mountain which is very convenient. Rugby (the owner) is very friendly, responsive, and easy to work with! We will be back soon!
Our visit to the cabin was so relaxing and beautiful. We felt as if we had our own private window on the world - the view was incredible. Even our little schnauzer would sit at the window for hours watching the birds fly and the chipmunks scurry.
This is truly a warm and magical place! When you leave the driveway, you immediately are in a Christmas Tree Farm of rolling hills and the smell of Christmas!
We had a delightful time! Hope to return soon.
PANTHERTOWN VALLEY is just down the road. Great hiking and views!
