Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedroom, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Here you can find the true NEAHKAHNIE TREASURE! Neahkahnie's true treasure is the energy of the mountain - the powerful "life-force" it holds and makes available for each of us. Neah-kah-nie means "place of the spirits".

Three hundred feet above the waves on the ocean edge of Neahkahnie Mountain, thirty feet above the ground, surrounded by giant Sitka spruce and Douglas fir. Well out of tsunami zone. Look out through the trees, both south and west to the ocean. Look up from the sleeping loft through a huge skylight past the branches to the night stars.

This is a place to leave the city and urban culture behind - a TV-free zone (video/DVD/wi-fi available). A retreat into the world where the rest of nature speaks loudly. Where eagles circle and sing. You can touch true peace and magic here.

Built by hand, with love, thirty years ago. Rock off of the mountain, cedar from the river. The loft and ceiling are redwood. It is a nest out of which books, articles, and visions of the world we are moving into have hatched and taken wing.

The beach is a fifteen minute walk down the road, and a nice aerobic walk back up. A short drive to Oswald West State Park, the trail up Neahkahnie Mountain, the town of Manzanita, or Nehalem Bay State Park.

The Nest is a place to begin a new journey, to refresh your soul, to find new depth, new growth; to choose new futures within yourself.

Why Lane deMoll chose Northern Coast

We moved here 40 years ago, to be where nature spoke loudly, and to find community and culture in harmony with all life. With children grown, we've downsized. I moved my office back into the house, and converted my 'office' into a place where others can connect with the soul of this place.

What makes this cottage unique

Neahkahnie Mountain can be a deep and powerful experience. It clears out the confusion of urban culture, and brings us in touch with eternal truths and the wisdom of all Creation. Eagles, elk, deer, hummingbirds and other life are more present than people. Ocean, sun, trees, two miles of quiet beach, numerous nearby coastal state parks give opportunity to open our hearts to deeper and broader vision.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for this amazing place! We are newly in love and were able to connect with each other on an intense spiritual level while spending time in this lovely little retreat. It's like we were able to step out of time for a few days and experience each other just as human beings - not as parents, friends, workers. Between the excellent design of the space and the energy you have clearly brought to it, our experience was one of cam, beauty and connection. We'll be back!

A great, great getaway

  • 5 of 5

Surrounded by trees, bird song, and sounds of the surf, the EAGLES NEST provided us several days of serenity and calm. We loved staying there, and we loved Manzanita. Highly recommended!

Tucked Away

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Eagle's Nest. The interior was beautiful and felt so warm and welcoming. The view is unreal and the loft is super fun to sleep in when the moon is bright and you can see the stars and the amazing tree reaching out to the sky above you. It is a nice, tucked away spot just a few minutes drive down to the beach (you can't walk to the beach-well, you can walk down the roads as there is no direct beach access). Our stay was fabulous and we wish we could have stayed longer. My husband and I will be sure to visit again next year. My only suggestion (to the owners) is to perhaps have a larger coffee pot. It's tiny. There were three of us who drank coffee and to have at least two cups each, you would have to make coffee about three times. But, that is a super minor thing. It really wasn't a big deal. Thanks for the fabulous stay. Also, aptly named the Eagle's Nest as we saw a Bald Eagle down on the beach. So fabulous!

Owner's Response: Thanks, guys, for the coffee pot suggestion. I'm not a coffee drinker, but everyone seems to use a different coffee-making process. I think we have at least 3 options in the Nest. Hmmm, maybe we could get IVs set up at every chair? Or a 55-gallon drum? Or???? Will see what we can find. Thanks! Tom

Unique and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Here for the weekend with my adult son ---- having separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, one upstairs and one down, was perfect for us. All the things needed for comfort were here ----well-stocked kitchen, very comfortable beds, wood-burning stove for heat and atmosphere, lots of books on a wide variety of topics, outdoor sitting spot and huge windows for postcard-worthy views of trees & ocean/surf, all in a gorgeous hand-crafted cabin that glows with originality, caring and a deeply peaceful atmosphere. Access is via a set of stone steps outdoors, or a longer staircase inside the house, so probably not best for someone with a mobility issue. Eagles Nest captures the mood of the north coast to perfection, and we felt very lucky to have found it.

Comfortable, inviting and overall more than adequate.

  • 4 of 5

This place feels surprisingly roomy for its size. The views are lovely. It has a veritable library of assorted reading material one could get lost in if the weather is not to your liking. Its peaceful, an excellent aerie to perch in for contemplation, reflection or in our case easy conversations and simple celebrations. A bit further from the beach than I envisioned but perhaps this adds to the overall tranquility. If and when an opportunity presents itself, we would go again.

Wonderful family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much! The Eagle's Nest was exactly the experience my family needed and was hoping for. It has been a crazy year for us and we were hoping to relax and enjoy some beautiful coast time, which we did. We experienced all kinds of weather, which was a bonus. The Eagle's Nest is a great place to sit back and enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer. This is a special place .... special space. We will be back!

Peaceful, beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home felt like a cabin with its beautiful wood interior and stove.

The place had all the conveniences one could ask for, even REAL salt!

We loved the huge skylight upstairs so much we didn't even sleep in the full bed below.
