Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedroom, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Here you can find the true NEAHKAHNIE TREASURE! Neahkahnie's true treasure is the energy of the mountain - the powerful "life-force" it holds and makes available for each of us. Neah-kah-nie means "place of the spirits".

Three hundred feet above the waves on the ocean edge of Neahkahnie Mountain, thirty feet above the ground, surrounded by giant Sitka spruce and Douglas fir. Well out of tsunami zone. Look out through the trees, both south and west to the ocean. Look up from the sleeping loft through a huge skylight past the branches to the night stars.

This is a place to leave the city and urban culture behind - a TV-free zone (video/DVD/wi-fi available). A retreat into the world where the rest of nature speaks loudly. Where eagles circle and sing. You can touch true peace and magic here.

Built by hand, with love, thirty years ago. Rock off of the mountain, cedar from the river. The loft and ceiling are redwood. It is a nest out of which books, articles, and visions of the world we are moving into have hatched and taken wing.

The beach is a fifteen minute walk down the road, and a nice aerobic walk back up. A short drive to Oswald West State Park, the trail up Neahkahnie Mountain, the town of Manzanita, or Nehalem Bay State Park.

The Nest is a place to begin a new journey, to refresh your soul, to find new depth, new growth; to choose new futures within yourself.

Why Lane deMoll chose Neahkahnie Beach

We moved here 40 years ago, to be where nature spoke loudly, and to find community and culture in harmony with all life. With children grown, we've downsized. I moved my office back into the house, and converted my 'office' into a place where others can connect with the soul of this place.

What makes this cottage unique

Neahkahnie Mountain can be a deep and powerful experience. It clears out the confusion of urban culture, and brings us in touch with eternal truths and the wisdom of all Creation. Eagles, elk, deer, hummingbirds and other life are more present than people. Ocean, sun, trees, two miles of quiet beach, numerous nearby coastal state parks give opportunity to open our hearts to deeper and broader vision.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for this amazing place! We are newly in love and were able to connect with each other on an intense spiritual level while spending time in this lovely little retreat. It's like we were able to step out of time for a few days and experience each other just as human beings - not as parents, friends, workers. Between the excellent design of the space and the energy you have clearly brought to it, our experience was one of cam, beauty and connection. We'll be back!

Perfect stay

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful escape. Great energy - felt very peaceful, although quite close to town. Clean, considered, convenient. The home is beautifully constructed and integrated into the landscape. Clearly built by someone who cared for every detail. We loved it and would love to visit again.

Beautiful getaway in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place to relax and reflect. Enjoyed the side porch in the late afternoon, then as the weather was wonderfully cool, enjoyed the warmth of the fire later in the evening. Very comfortable. The kitchen well supplied. Incredible library. Very clean. Wonderful view and just a memorable stay. My husband and I would certainly stay here again if we come up this way again. Just loved it.

Quaint, Interesting Retreat

  • 3 of 5

Stunning setting! An ironing board would have been nice to have, unless I completely missed reading about its location in the handbook. I appreciate the owners’ dedication to our Earth and waste reduction. The place needs a really

Good deep clean. I can appreciate not wanting to use the resources to deep clean every time a party leaves if it isn’t necessary; however there were too many active spiderwebs and old cob webs for my comfort level. Lane was very responsive and helpful with questions which I greatly appreciated. If you are looking for a gorgeous setting with a minimalist vibe and rugged yet spiritual feel, this place is perfect for you.

Owner's Response: We're sorry, guys, about the spidies. Unfortunately, they're part of life here, and it IS spidie-season. I must have bumped into a dozen spidie-webs going out to my car this morning. So everywhere we go, we carry some of these little creatures with us. They're not big and dangerous like in other places, just annoying, if we let them be. You must have been lucky guests here enjoying a bright, sunny day after a bunch of grey ones! We do our best to get rid of webs every clean, and even have a special long-handled web-catcher. But even then, the next morning . . . ! Thanks for the alert. We'll get out our spotlights, swords, and smiles, and go for an epic spidie-slash.
