Why Abigail Friedland chose West Boothbay Harbor
Arden is a place of respite, leisure, living in the moment, enjoying the beauty and tranquility of Maine and most especially for gathering of family and friends. It is my pleasure to share this with you and fondest hope that it will be for you a magical, energizing, and restorative time surrounded by Maine’s beautiful woods, water, and sky that you will remember and treasure as it always is for me. We chose the name Arden from the Arden Woods which was the setting for As You like It. Shakespeare compared the Arden Woods with Eden -- a magical place where people are transformed through self-discovery and finding love. For our family and friends Arden has indeed been an apt name. This four-acre land, gardens, and woods feels like a special place. Friendship has been celebrated, children and grandchildren have gathered and played. We have laughed, read, rested, feasted, explored, and spent many hours playing games and talking in winter and summer, in sunshine, fog, rain and snow. Most especially we have all been embraced and nurtured by the warmth, beauty, and sturdiness of this house and its setting.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Arden is our family retreat and gathering spot and is filled with our family furniture, photos, and heritage which we have collected and conserved things which have been passed down though multiple generations of our family. We love it here and are nourished by it and have enjoyed many wonderful occasions over the 15 years we have owned and completely rebuilt Arden. We hope you will have similar wonderful memories with your family and friends and get great pleasure, as we do, from being surrounded by nature and the traditional materials and craftsmanship that grounds us and ties us to this place and to one another.

It was so wonderful ....Making reservations for Summer 2018!!
One of a kind! A beautiful and unique setting with a wonderful sense of privacy. Gorgeous landscaping ; we loved all the different seating areas to take in the great water views. We had everything we needed to enjoy our time at Arden House: wood for the campfire and fireplace, kayaks, gas and charcoal grills, large gas-fired lobster pot, well-equipped kitchen, Wifi, nice TV and sound system, etc. Towels and linens were in good shape. Incredible architecture and building materials...beautifully done. Lots of interesting artifacts throughout the house. Arden House offered "comfortable-elegant" space for our whole extended family: 86 year old Great Grandmother, our sons and their wives, our 10 month old grandson and ourselves... an added bonus; my brother-in-law and his wife rented the carriage house. We can't wait to come back.!
OUTSTANDING!!! Best Place to Stay/Boothbay Harbor!

Absolutely spectacular and peaceful
What a stunning house!! Enjoyed everything about the house and property. Never expected anything to look like the picures, but WOW!! The furnishings were amazing, the entire house was unbelievably beautiful and a place where I would love to live.
So much space and tranquil areas both inside and outside the house. You could be alone if you so chose.
We enjoyed the firepit each evening and the inside fireplace on a colder night. We even cooked lobster in the gas lobster pot, which we had never done before!! Everything we needed was right there....and the kitchen had everything we could possibly need.
Also so close to so many beautiful areas to visit.
Beautiful, beautiful house and property...sooo serene... we were quite sad to leave. Thanks for a great vacation!!
Perfect Maine Getaway!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week spent at the Arden House! The location is fantastic and property is stunning. Home is very unique and beautifully decorated. Could not imagine a better place to stay to experience a relaxing Maine vacation! Kayaking and evenings by the fire pit were real highlights!
Relaxation at its best!!
Wow!! Where to start. First Abigail was amazing to work with arranging rental. She was friendly and prompt. Jim, the caretaker, was always available and accommodating. The house is spectacular. We enjoyed every part of the house and property. Our favorites were the kayaks, the producing blueberry bushes, screened in porch, well appointed kitchen and the beautiful light that flowed into the house. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing, wonderful vacation.
We've stayed in many interesting and delightful VRBOs in Europe (Paris, Florence, and Valencia) and in the U.S. (from Tucson to Cambridge, MA), and Arden House is one of our favorites, and certainly the most luxurious and gorgeously furnished. Set on a spectacular, private, wooded, tidal bay 3 acre lot, the house, with its many windows, made us feel as though we were truly in the Maine woods. Each room in the house is beautifully decorated with fabulous art and antiques and comfortable furniture. All the rooms are spacious and beautifully laid out, and there are lots of private spaces for reading or conversations. The kitchen is large with space for several cooks, and equipped with large appliances and all the cooking tools, dishes, glasses, etc., someone who loves to cook would ever want. The living rooms and the screened porches are both large and cozy, the bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds, and the bathrooms are thoughtfully and beautifully set up. Each of these rooms has its own striking design.
The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived, The caretaker, who let us in, was helpful getting us oriented, and patient with a couple of small things we couldn't figure out. He was also knowledgeable and entertaining. Abigail, who took our reservations, was lovely --warm, helpful, and efficient. We liked that Boothbay Harbor is only a few minutes away for groceries and restaurants, and we enjoyed tide pooling on the shores nearby.
The Carriage House Apartment is adjacent, but that space is separated and oriented in such a way that we barely knew someone was there.
In our last couple of days, we met the woman who owns and designed Arden House. She was so hospitable, friendly, and knowledgeable; having the opportunity to talk with her made our stay even better.
In all, we spent a wonderful week at Arden House. We went home refreshed and contented, with great memories of our stay in Maine. We hope to return to Arden House soon!
