Overview

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps six to eight.

Start your day with breakfast on the wrap-around deck overlooking this quiet lake, then slip into matching kayaks for a peaceful tour of the shoreline, much of it undeveloped. Pop into downtown Lapeer for lunch at one of the quaint restaurants, then spend the afternoon swimming and fishing. Fry up that bass and bluegill for dinner on the outdoor grill, then finish up the day watching the sunset from the dock. This is the perfect place for families and couples looking for a quiet vacation, but one that allows motorized water sports. The location - about 40 minutes north of Auburn Hills, makes it handy for those folks who may want to take the week, but still commute into town to work. (The neighborhood is quiet, so the property is not suitable for large family reunions.) Also a great haven for golfers. Sugarbush Golf course is on this lake, and there are several fabulous courses nearby. Fall weekends are available too for color tours. Ice fishing is fabulous, as is cross country skiing. The cottage is immaculate, open and airy, with high ceilings in the large kitchen and living area overlooking the lake.. Master bedroom has its own bath. Two other bedrooms share a smaller bath. We've owned this home for ten years and created many wonderful memories here. Come create some of your own.

Keywords: Charming year round cottage with 100 feet of shoreline on quiet all sports lake. Pristine water perfect for swimming, fishing and boating. Golf course across the lake.

About Lori Brasier Bencsik

(Attention renters. Contact me directly if interested in my home. VRBO will charge you a $200 "booking fee" if you book on line with them) I am a journalist, a staff writer at the Detroit Free Press. We love to travel and our cottage is decorated with things we've bought from around the world, Jamaica, Guatemala, Barbados, Costa Rica, Italy, St. Lucia, Tulum Mexico. Writer Joyce Maynard, author of To Die For, the Nicole Kidman movie, stayed in our cottage for a summer, and wrote about it in her book Internal Combustion.

The book is one of many available for summer reading at the cottage. We've designed the cottage for maximum fun and comfort, a place where you want to kick off your shoes and settle in with a good book and a glass of wine. Everyone tends to gather on the wide wrap-around porch that overlooks the lake, if they're not sunning on the dock.

Lori Brasier Bencsik purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Lori Brasier Bencsik chose Lapeer

My husband is a licensed contractor and we bought the cottage as an investment, with the intention of making renovations and then selling it. But within weeks, we'd fallen in love with the lake, and ten years later we still own it. Since many of the homes on the lake are owned by weekenders, it tends to be very quiet during the week. And it is family kind of lake, so there are not a lot of hotdoggers on jet skis. Because it is only forty minutes north of Auburn Hills, it is particularly handy for families where one of the parents plans to commute to work in metro-Detroit while the rest of the family vacations. It also makes for nice weekend getaways because there is not a long commute time out of the city.

What makes this cottage unique

My favorite time is early morning, when I kayak, sometimes alone, and watch the birds. You can usually spot deer along the shoreline, and sometimes a turtle will swim along side the kayak. My husband and children like the late afternoons, swimming and fishing. There is a small fire pit near the water's edge, and late at night, the adults often gather there for drinks and kid-free time.

The location is very convenient, half way between Lapeer and Davison. Davison has a fabulous day spa, and Lapeer has a new community fitness center, with a water park, and indoor track. There are great antique stores throughout the region, and some of the best golfing around.

Summer 2015

  • 5 of 5

We spent the month of August at the cottage. Wonderful hosts Mike and Lori. Our sons live in Detroit/Ann Arbor area so they got to come several long weekends which was great. Nice location with supermarkets and lots of ice cream shops in Lapeer/Davison area. Flint Museum of Art is a definite location to visit.

Swimming was good and the bluegill fishing on this lake is excellent.

We truly had a great stay.

Cozy Winter Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

I recently decided to take a last minute trip from my home in New Mexico to visit relatives in the Lapeer Michigan (where I was born and raised) area. I stayed with a close cousin for a few days in North Branch and an aunt in Davison for a few more. My dilemma was that I have a daughter with a large family (four children) who wanted to come up to see me from Ohio for a few days. I didn't want to impose on other family members to provide room for my daughter and her kids, so I searched on-line for a cottage rental in the Lapeer area.

I was happy to find this cottage tucked away on quiet Potters Lake. It is very close to all the amenities one may need while on holiday, what with Lapeer located only six miles to the east. I found the cottage very much to my liking as it was warm and cozy with a tremendous amount of room and a fantastic view of the lake.

The owners, Mike and Lori, were extememely nice and very accommodating. They went out of their way to insure that I had everything I needed to make my stay an enjoyable experience. They respected my privacy completely, yet made themselves available with a quick phone call should a need arise.

I am looking forward to going back to Potters Lake during a warmer month (my thin New Mexican blood in mind) and sharing this great cottage and Potters Lake experience with my wife and two younger children in the near future.

Thanks again for a great time Mike and Lori.

The best vacation we ever had.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time here. Lori and Michael are awesome people and great hosts. The house was very well stocked with everything we needed. My Grandson caught his first fish right off the dock. The neighbors were great too, so friendly. We are planning a return trip next year. We very highly recommend this as a vacation spot for families.

We have just returned from a 2 week family vacation at this beautiful cottage. There were 5 adults and 3 children and never once felt the space was too small. This place is great for families with young children. The sandy beach out front is hours of fun. We all loved the paddle boat and kayaks it was a beautiful way to get up close to the swans and see the lake.

The cottage has everything you need to be comfortable - tv with the Disney channel for the times everyone needs a break and of course Olympic updates, a dish washer so no one has to miss the beautiful sun set, and air conditioning to ensure a good night sleep is had on the comfortable beds!

The front porch is where we spent most of our time when not in the water. It is the best place to watch the fun on the lake or the fish being caught off the dock. Many books were enjoyed there also.

I would definately recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing family vacation. It was the first time I had booked off VRBO and this experience has me hooked!!!!

The owners Lori and Micheal were great host before we even arrived at their cottage - promptly answering all of my questions. They greeted us upon our arrival and ensured we knew the basics. It was greatly appreciated! Thank you for sharing your special cottage with us. A very memorable vacation was had by all!

A Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from staying at this lovely home. It is a perfect vacation home. Its very comfortable inside with 3 bedrooms, large kitchen, comfortable living room and wonderful wrap around patio. The pictures don't do it justice. The lake is wonderful and peaceful. Great for paddle boating and kayaking (which are both provided) but a little green for swimming although you can certainly swim (just a bit of seaweed). Also did some excellent fishing off the dock and caught 6 fish in about 90 minutes. I highly recommend this home. I spent most mornings and evening enjoying the wrap around patio. Its also used by the owner regularly so very comfy and has the wonderful lived in feeling.

I will certainly stay here again on my next trip to lapeer!

Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The family and I have stayed here on several occasions and have had a great time. From the living room you can see what the kids are doing and having the open concept in the kitchen area you can look right through the living room at the lake. From sitting on the porch to playing in the lake, there is plenty to make the week relaxing and fun. The cottage is clean and bright and will make your stay comfortable. We hope to stay here soon again.
