About Bob Williams

We are dedicated in providing exceptional small lodging and guest service at all of our homes. We are married, have 3 kids with 1 child having special needs. We also own the Dillsboro Chocolate Factory in Dillsboro just outside of Sylva and perhaps 10 minutes or so from Cherokee. We live within minutes of our homes and are here to serve our guests as they need or want. You may and likely will find other very nice homes in the Smokies, but you are not likely going to find an owner who will go the extra mile as we do with our 3 properties.

Bob Williams purchased this cabin in 2002

Guestbook comments from the owner

We love this place! The cabin was perfect. Loved the hot tub, fire place, view, pillow top bed and the entertainment system. Had a small problem with the T-stat, but Bob (the owner) was here in no time to get it fixed. While he was here he made a fire, started the hot tub and gave us the scoop on the local mouuntain bike trails. Look forward to next year.

Almost perfect...

  • 4 of 5

We loved nearly everything about this beautiful cabin. Outside, the architecture is a unique style that we were not familiar with, but now love. Love the paint color as well. The deck and surrounding grounds are a perfect spot to take in the stunning and constantly changing views of the mountains. There's a hot tub. We didn't use it, but it looked very inviting. Loved the drive to the top of the mountain...not too long or steep, but it lets you know you are climbing a mountain. We loved the proximity to several entrances into Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. It's also very close to the Harrah's Casino in Cherokee, and shopping for antiques and local artisan wares in Dillsboro and Sylva.

Inside, the kitchen is nicely equipped. We brought most of our food, but grocery shopping is not too far away. The furniture is a nice eclectic mix...some antiques, some artisan-made, some upcycled...but all of it is comfortable. Very nice quilts on the beds. Huge windows in every room, so the beautiful mountain views are always present. Lovely wood floors downstairs.

Property managers responded quickly to messages sent through HomeAway. We didn't need anything, but they seemed very nice, and I'm confident that, had we needed something, they would have seen to it that we got it.

There are just a few things about this cabin that kept it from being 5 stars for us, and most of them are not deal-breakers. If you're a cook, bring your favorite knife and your cutting board. No big deal. If you like to sleep late, be aware that there are no window coverings on any of the huge windows, and it is very light by 6:00 a.m. If you like black bear decor, you will love this cabin. For us, being older travelers, we found it excessive, and maybe a little juvenile...still cute, just maybe too much. Also, there's older carpet in the bedrooms. The only thing though, that will keep us from returning to this cabin is traffic noise. We drove a long way to vacation in the mountains and "get away from it all." But, there is constant heavy traffic on the main road at the bottom of the mountain, and lots of that traffic is trucks. Unfortunately, the noise took away a little bit from those stunning views. If noise is not an issue, I would still recommend this cabin 100%.

Pretty little cabin in the sky

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was very comfortable, clean and a perfect weekend getaway.it had everything we needed.I would definitely arrive before dark;the first time you travel up the road to the cabin can be a little hair-raising. We did not use the hot-tub because it was 20 degrees out;instead we spent our evenings in front of a toasty fire in the fireplace. The king size bed was very comfortable, and the nearby towns of Dillsboro and Sylva were fun to explore. Asheville is only about an hour away too, so it's a good central home base. And the views are beautiful from all the windows. If the weather had been warmer, I'm sure we would have enjoyed sitting out on the back deck. A lovely little cabin worth staying at;we'll be back!

Purple and Gold

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Bare Necessities the weekend of our son's graduation from Western Carolina University. The purple and gold colors of WCU were on display on campus and at sunset from the deck of Bare Necessities. You cannot capture the long-range views in a photo. We could still see the snow atop Clingman's Dome over 30 miles away.

The hot tub was a welcome retreat after a couple of busy days packing up a moving van and attending the graduation festivities. The cabin comfortably slept 5 adults with an air mattress we took with us. The upstairs shower had a tough time keeping water pressure when someone was in the shower downstairs but we just staggered our bathroom visits to accommodate.

There are so many outdoor activities in the surrounding area but my favorite was driving up Barker's Creek Rd, turning onto Beech Tree Rd and driving until it turns into a National Forestry dirt road. This drive is quintessential Western Carolina with family farms, mountain views and beautiful creeks. We fished for native trout in the middle fork of Barker's Creek and hardly noticed the hour that waned away in the middle of a hectic weekend.

We can't wait to return in the fall.

Beautiful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We love this cabin! It was our first time staying here and fell hard for it. The pictures of the view don't do it justice. The cabin had everything inside that we could possibly need. The main purpose of our trip was to see a football game at Western Carolina University and we were surprised at how close this cabin was to campus and the other activities in the area that we did. It seemed to be right in the middle of everything. My kids loved the hot tub and the wireless internet. Thank you for an awesome trip.

Great Time!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in the dark (not recommended!) and were so pleased at the quality of the lodging! My wife is very much a 5 star girl and she was not disappointed. In the morning we were blown away by the view! Wifi was great for the kids to access and we had no trouble with getting service for our mobile phone.

Had a small problem with the Hot Tub, and Bob (the owner) was on the spot to get it fixed. We plan on returning in the Summer.
