About The Owner

I grew up spending weekends and summers in this house, retreating from the urban demands of San Francisco. I have had the chance to raise my own children in this timeless place. Inverness remains a magical place that I hope will always be a place where I can retreat and unwind.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1963

Why The Owner chose San Francisco Bay Area

This is a second generation family vacation cabin. With all the fabulous memories and the continued attraction to the area, we want to keep this treasure in the family.

What makes this cabin unique

Staying at this house has always meant a slower pace of life. There is deliberately no TV or internet at the house. There are book, board games and sports equipment. It is truly a place to take a time out from the fast pace and constant accessibility of our lives today. TV and internet are available nearby but the need to be intentional about accessing them keeps me honest about truly being on vacation. Tennis courts and Tomales Bay are within 2 blocks of the house. Foot paths in the area provide easy access to all of Inverness. Nearby hiking trails and fire roads offer even more choices for encounters with nature and spectacular vistas.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fantastic time at the cabin. It's kind of perfect in every way. Loved the deck, your decorations, the hammock. We'd really like to visit again some time. Thanks for everything!

Beautiful place to relax, surrounded by trees

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the property. The location is lovely, with the beautiful tree-covered hillside creating an atmosphere of peace and isolation. The house and the comfortable cabin provide spacious accommodations, everything is spotless and comfortable, and the large yard (with apple and pear trees) offer kids plenty of space to play.

Perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5

5 of us, then 6, spent a few days here to read, write, do art, reflect, make day trips to hiking trails and the beach. It was perfect for our group, who needed a five day respite form our busy lives. Warm, cozy and comfortable (although some of the porch furniture has seen better days). Loved having a break from cell phone and wifi. I would recommend this rustic retreat for anyone seeking a quiet vacation. Loved the separate sleeping cabin for spreading out. A few quirks: shower great, but probably a challenge for tall guests. Some windows need reglazing. Garbage can very small; we filled it in five days. But overall, a wonderful place to stay.

Loved this family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying here. It is a family home and you can tell. Everything is cozy and well cared for. We loved firing up the wood-burning stoves in the evening, and sunning on the deck in the daytime. The dogs had a fantastic time running around the yard. We will definitely plan to come back.

Peaceful, relaxing rustic location in Inverness

  • 4 of 5

Nice location, quiet, had everything we needed really for a brief getaway. Kitchen is narrow, so can't have more than 2 people at a time working. It was just 2 of us so not a problem. Rustic in setting, but has modern appliances so that's an upgrade from most "cabins." Lots of deck space, so when the sun came out it was particularly nice. The extra building - the bunkhouse - has 4 single beds, & would make for good accommodations for including other family or friends. Given the area, good idea to bring layers of clothing. It cools down at night & on overcast mornings/days, it can be rather chilly. It was a challenge working with the Franklin stove, but we figured it out to take the chill off in the evening. Older wall heater wasn't working at the time, so I "borrowed" the portable electric ceramic heater from the bunkhouse our last morning there. We were glad to be able to take our dog there. She's pretty small so could have gotten out of the main gate up at entrance to property so we kept a close eye on her. It was a good sized yard for her to romp around in. All in all, a nice and comfortable place to relax and take time off from news, phones, etc.

Owner's Response: Unfortunate that the wall heater quit working during your stay. It is fixed now. Building wood fires can be challenging and Franklin stoves are a bit tricky. There are detailed "Tips and Tricks" for the Franklin stove in the guest binder. Hope to see you again soon!
