About Mary Ann Badovinac

Our family of five has enjoyed visiting and playing at the cabin for over twenty-five years. We moved to Atlanta, Ga. to be closer to the cabin and share our love of nature with our 3 children. We hike, swim, fish, kayak and enjoy sharing our cabin with friends and guests.

Mary Ann Badovinac purchased this cabin in 1984

Why Mary Ann Badovinac chose Highlands Hills

We bought this cabin because it is next door to our family cabin of 54 years. Enjoying the cool summer weather and outdoor activities this area has to offer has been our summer fun for as long as I can remember.

What makes this cabin unique

Our home was originally owned by an artist couple who designed it after their loft in Paris. They became close family friends. When we bought the cabin we expanded it, trying to keep the light airy feeling of the original cabin. From our decks we view a variety of wildlife and birds. At night we only hear the sounds of the bullfrogs in the lake. So peaceful.

Clean, Nice view, Average

  • 3 of 5

The home was clean, had a beautiful view of the lake, and was close to downtown. A great living room , TV, and fireplace. Kitchen needs a lot of updating (very old stove that was not the best for cooking). The owner was unresponsive when we had an issue with a dog who kept trying to enter the house. This was an issue for us because we had a dog could rarely bring her outside because of the presence of this strange dog. We were also told we had to bring the trash to the recycling center when we checked out, however, the recycling center was closed due to the holiday which we were not told and we were forced to drive around on our way out of town with trash in our car (this should have been told to us ahead of time and arrangements should have been made). We also asked to check in early and were told no due to another group checking out, however, I feel that the owner could have been more accommodating and let us know as soon as it was ready or do something to try to work it out. Iffy whether or not I would stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at my cabin. I'm sorry you were not pleased with the check-in time. It is stated as being 4:00 pm and early access to the property depends on the schedule of the housekeeper, as I mentioned when you called. Guests left the morning of your arrival day and it does take the full amount of time to properly clean the cabin. I'm sorry I didn't know the recycling center is closed on New Year's Day. I will make note of that fact in the cabin information. The stove is electric, and the four burners and oven are fully functional. Due to Highland's altitude, 4100', cooking and boiling times are longer. I have a High Altitude cookbook at the cabin. Thank you for your review. Reviews help me become a better Host.

Fireplace was grand

  • 4 of 5

The great room is open floor to ceiling with the stone, wood burning fireplace, being the feature of the room. There is a lot of open space in this house, lots of places for a larger number of guests to gather.

Nice property and great location to town. Could use some updates and discussed this with the owner.

Location is between Cashiers and Highlands. Closer to Highlands in a nice area on the lake. Very clean cabin with all the amenities you need. Owner provides a lot of info for you to see and do and is very helpful with any questions. Beds were a little hard for us and owner is looking to provide softer options. Nice option for a quick or longer stay. Would consider staying there again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at the cabin. When at the cabin you discussed the updates as being the need for softer beds downstairs. I have added pillow tops to the beds since we talked. It was nice meeting you at the cabin, and we welcome you anytime you are in the Highlands area.

Perfect Family Vacation for Nature Lovers/Excellent Location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four, including 2 boys who love to kayak and fish had an amazing week! It was wonderful to get away from the outside world and just relax on the quiet dock each morning and evening! The house is in immaculate condition and is an open floor plan with tons of character and beautiful hardwoods. We were extremely comfortable. The porch was our main dining area where we were greeted by 3 hummingbirds each day. The kitchen is large and we cooked almost all our meals here. The owner is extremely hospitable and was helpful from the moment we booked our vacation. We had everything we needed supplied by the owner and there were no issues with anything. I hate to brag too much, because I want to keep this great getaway to just "us". The location is close to the towns of Highlands, Cashiers, and Franklin. We also rented a pontoon, tubes and wakeboard on Lake Glenville nearby. We are making plans to come again! This was our best family vacation by far in the past several years!! We love this house!! Best restaurant in Cashiers: High Hampton Inn...amazing! Mountain Fresh Grocery in Highlands awesome shrimp boil on Monday nights! - Lowcountry family from Charleston, SC

Perfect family get away

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for a family that loves the outdoors! The owner Mary was very accommodating, I would /will rent this place again and would recommend it to anyone that wants a place that has privacy and the feel of seclusion. The lake had very little activity other than our own use of it.
