About Mary Ann Badovinac

Our family of five has enjoyed visiting and playing at the cabin for over twenty-five years. We moved to Atlanta, Ga. to be closer to the cabin and share our love of nature with our 3 children. We hike, swim, fish, kayak and enjoy sharing our cabin with friends and guests.

Mary Ann Badovinac purchased this cabin in 1984

Why Mary Ann Badovinac chose Highlands Hills

We bought this cabin because it is next door to our family cabin of 54 years. Enjoying the cool summer weather and outdoor activities this area has to offer has been our summer fun for as long as I can remember.

What makes this cabin unique

Our home was originally owned by an artist couple who designed it after their loft in Paris. They became close family friends. When we bought the cabin we expanded it, trying to keep the light airy feeling of the original cabin. From our decks we view a variety of wildlife and birds. At night we only hear the sounds of the bullfrogs in the lake. So peaceful.

Car: necessary

This lakeside cabin, is just a few minutes from beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails, the quaint town of Highlands - fine restaurants, shopping, live theatre, music concerts, spa, nature center, museum, art, and a recreation center w/swimming, gym, and tennis. Drive a little further for white water rafting, flyfishing, and horseback riding.

Fireplace was grand

  • 4 of 5

The great room is open floor to ceiling with the stone, wood burning fireplace, being the feature of the room. There is a lot of open space in this house, lots of places for a larger number of guests to gather.

Nice property and great location to town. Could use some updates and discussed this with the owner.

Location is between Cashiers and Highlands. Closer to Highlands in a nice area on the lake. Very clean cabin with all the amenities you need. Owner provides a lot of info for you to see and do and is very helpful with any questions. Beds were a little hard for us and owner is looking to provide softer options. Nice option for a quick or longer stay. Would consider staying there again.

Perfect Family Vacation for Nature Lovers/Excellent Location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four, including 2 boys who love to kayak and fish had an amazing week! It was wonderful to get away from the outside world and just relax on the quiet dock each morning and evening! The house is in immaculate condition and is an open floor plan with tons of character and beautiful hardwoods. We were extremely comfortable. The porch was our main dining area where we were greeted by 3 hummingbirds each day. The kitchen is large and we cooked almost all our meals here. The owner is extremely hospitable and was helpful from the moment we booked our vacation. We had everything we needed supplied by the owner and there were no issues with anything. I hate to brag too much, because I want to keep this great getaway to just "us". The location is close to the towns of Highlands, Cashiers, and Franklin. We also rented a pontoon, tubes and wakeboard on Lake Glenville nearby. We are making plans to come again! This was our best family vacation by far in the past several years!! We love this house!! Best restaurant in Cashiers: High Hampton Inn...amazing! Mountain Fresh Grocery in Highlands awesome shrimp boil on Monday nights! - Lowcountry family from Charleston, SC

Perfect family get away

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for a family that loves the outdoors! The owner Mary was very accommodating, I would /will rent this place again and would recommend it to anyone that wants a place that has privacy and the feel of seclusion. The lake had very little activity other than our own use of it.

Very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful location on a private lake and only 5 minutes from Main Street in Highlands. This is the best equipped kitchen I have ever seen in a rental property, so if you like to cook, like we do, there is most everything you need. The only problem with this is that it will take away time from all the great dining locations in town. You are also close to Falls, hiking, mountain climbing, tubing and fishing. The beds are comfortable and you won't find a more responsive owner than Mary Ann.The jacuzzi tub is great. My only complaint is the broadband signal is spotty at best, but the Wi-Fi is adequate. Also be aware that you must travel several mikes to take the garbage and recycling, but that is no fault of the owner. All in all a very comfortable stay.

Owner's Response: David, We are so pleased you and your wife enjoyed your stay in our cabin during your Highlands vacation. The Verizon reception is spotty around the mountains, and works best outside the cabin, or in downtown Highlands. We have an AT&T cell phone extender so reception is good in the cabin for guests who use AT&T; plus, the cabin phone line allows guests to call anywhere in the U.S. and Canada free of charge. The recycling center is 5 minutes away. Thank you again for staying at the cabin. We hope you keep us in mind for future visits to Highlands! Best Regards, Mary Ann

We loved our stay - the kids enjoyed the loft and had a blast on the lake. We couldn't have asked for a better, more comfortable stay. Thank you!
