3 BR,1 BA; Unique Handcrafted Interior on Oak-Lined Street; Walk or Bike to Town!

Located in a quiet neighborhood between Black Mountain and Montreat, this home is a 1030 square foot cottage that has been updated with custom touches - interior timber framing using locally sourced lumber, vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, and handmade cabinets. There are three bedrooms - two have queen beds with very comfortable new mattresses, and one has a futon with a new mattress and memory foam topper. The bathroom has a bathtub with combination stationary/handheld shower for your convenience, and is stocked with toilet tissue, a first aid kit, and extra toiletries in case you forget something.

The kitchen has everything you need to prepare a delicious meal using the freshest local ingredients, and a dishwasher to help make the cleanup easier. We keep basics such as dish soap, detergent, paper towels, spices, sugar, and coffee filters on hand.

The property has a large backyard complete with fire pit and firewood, lawn chairs, propane grill, charcoal grill, picnic table, and flower and garden beds. The covered front porch and back deck have several seating choices that are perfect for reading, enjoying a cup of coffee, or sitting down to an outdoor breakfast. The house is naturally shaded and kept cool by two large white oaks that also support a swing for two. The house has a brand new central air system for your comfort, and we provide wireless internet, direcTV, and an ample selection of books, local guidebooks, games, and DVDs.

Because this is a family-friendly home, and we aim to make sure your children enjoy their stay as much as you enjoy yours, there are shelves stocked with children's art supplies, toys, and books. To make packing easier for you, there is also an umbrella stroller and high chair in the house.

The sidewalk from town leads right to the neighborhood, and two beach cruiser bikes are included with your rental for you to explore the town and all of its lovely shops, restaurants, and parks.

There is a washer and dryer on the premises (in the outside-entry basement), as well as laundry soap, fabric softener, and dryer sheets to take care of your laundry needs during your stay.

This home is the perfect place to stay, whether you're attending a conference, moving your son or daughter into college, or just getting away to the mountains for a few days. The location is convenient to everything Black Mountain and Montreat have to offer, and is only 20 minutes from downtown Asheville.

Our house is in a quiet family neighborhood, so it is not suitable for parties, events, or multiple visitors (if you intend to have visitors during your stay, please discuss this with us prior to booking). We expect our guests to treat our house and our neighbors like they would their own, and we're sure you will!

About Amanda & Mike Riley

We have lived in Black Mountain since 2010, and in the area since 2002. Amanda is originally from Florida, and then lived in New Jersey. Mike grew up in New Jersey, and we met in college at Rutgers University. Soon after college, we moved to the Asheville area and fell in love with Western North Carolina. We currently live close to the cottage in Black Mountain with our daughter. We have a large garden, bee hives, chickens, and make maple syrup every year from the sugar maples around town.

Amanda & Mike Riley purchased this house in 2014

Why Amanda & Mike Riley chose Black Mountain

We were friends with the previous owners, and when they moved to the eastern part of the state and put the house up for sale, it was a natural decision for us to buy it and allow others to experience the area.

What makes this house unique

We love that Black Mountain has so much to offer everyone, from the Saturday tailgate market to Thursday night Park Rhythms at Lake Tomahawk. The house's location is not loud or congested, but close enough to walk or bike to town.

This home was cozy, comfortable and more kid friendly than I could have imagined!

  • 5 of 5

We visited with our 3 young boys and Grandma for a week exploring in the mountains. The home was so cute, cozy and comfortable and had everything we could have needed and more! We visited some beautiful and exciting places, but our boys were eager and begging to get back every day to play back at the house. It was an awesome vacation and can't wait to visit again!

Mike and Amanda answered all of our questions in advance about allergies, dining, kid-stuff, etc., and were there to great us on arrival. Clean, updated property and minutes walk from downtown. We really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely time!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our stay very much. Mike greeted us and we felt very much at home right away. It was very clean and the attention to detail was obvious throughout the home. There was even an umbrella stroller available which came in quite handy for our granddaughter during our trip to the Biltmore estates. The check out procedures were very clear and reasonable. We plan on staying again.

Close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th stay, we love it even more each time we stay. Mike and Amanda makenit feel so homey we consider it our mountain home, without having to do the upkeep. I always forget that there is very little we have to bring because they have already thought of it for you. The kitchen has basic necessities so you don't have to bring or buy, the bathroom also has items in case you forget. If you have small children they have provided a pack-n-play, high chair, toys, etc. They have thought of every detail to make your stay perfect. We will definitely be returning for a 5th time some time next year and will continue to share with our friends and family so they can enjoy it as much as we do!
