CHATEAU LE MER: Oceanfront elegance, private sundeck, fabulous sunset views!

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Leave your car and your cares at the marina because Little Gasparilla is accessible only by water taxi! That means our beaches are uncrowded and tourists and traffic are just a mainland memory. If you are looking for a quiet tropical island to relax and unplug, Little Gasparilla is your dream vacation spot. Our "nightlife" consists of giant sea turtles laying their eggs -- our only bar is the sand bar where you can find sand dollars and shells!

We are offering our exclusive beach home for rent to people looking for charm and elegance in a luxurious oceanfront setting. Located on a nearly deserted, tropical island, CHATEAU LE MER will captivate you with its fabulous ocean views, luxurious furnishings, stained glass windows, second floor private sun deck, and spectacular sunsets.

This modern spectacular beachfront home features three bedrooms, all with direct ocean views, two baths with exotic European tile, handmade Persian rugs, fancy stained glass windows and Tiffany style lamps, full kitchen amenities including trash compactor, microwave, and water purification system. Rental includes WiFi, all linens, dishes and utensils, a hammock, and a free dock slip for your boat. A water taxi also services the island.

While Little Gasparilla Island is known for its seclusion, privacy, beautiful clean white sand beaches, and fantastic shelling, there are other activities including snorkeling, nature walks, bird watching, world class tarpon, redfish, and snook fishing (charters available nearby), eight golf courses within ten minutes, kayak and canoe rentals nearby and there are also boat rentals, and two nearby marinas for bait and groceries.

INTERNET: There is no wired internet service on the island. There are a couple options for wifi. Most people just opt to use the mobile hotspots on their smartphones, especially if they have unlimited data or a large data plan. Cell service is excellent and that is the most convenient it seems to work a bit faster. We can provide instructions on hot spotting if you are not familiar. If you do not have a smartphone, we provide a free Verizon jetpack BUT you have to purchase data AND YOU MUST REQUEST IT IN ADVANCE. You can either bring a Verizon card with you OR we can sell you one when we bring over the jetpack. You can buy as much data as you need, but it IS we urge guests NOT to plan on using the jetpack for streaming music or videos, etc. It is more than adequate for checking emails, etc. and most people use about 2G of data per week which is $35. 5G is $60 and 10G is $100. (It is sort of like a cruise where you have to pay for the minutes you are on-line.) You just need to let us know in advance so we can make sure we have a fully charged jetpack available for you. If you bring a Verizon card with you, we can show you how to add the data. Or, we can pre-add data prior to your arrival but you have to let us know how much you think you will need. Just keep in mind that it is NOT the internet you are used to on the mainland, and anything that uses up a lot of data will increase your costs. (It is especially helpful to remind kids and teenagers who are used to unlimited data!) We usually suggest that people download books and movies to their tablets or e-readers BEFORE coming to the island.

Privacy and beauty

  • 5 of 5

This was a great escape for our family. Everything was as described and we couldn't of been more pleased. Anything we needed was provided very quickly.. Bring really good bug repellent however. Lots of big hungry mosquitoes on the island. Would not deter us from coming back though! I can't wait to visit the island again!

Chateau let Mer

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a nice week in this beach front home. The home is in generally good condition, only exceptions were a non-functioning sliding door in one of the upstairs bedroom which kept that room's occupants from easily accessing the upper deck or sound of the surf and some upstairs windows that would not stay open without propping.

The home also has a lot of excess furnishings in the otherwise expansive living room. Some of the furnishings and decorations were not what I would consider "beachhouse" type motif and were mismatched with other items. There was just too much stuff making getting in and out to the wonderful beach-facing screen porch challenging particularly for less mobile folks.

The overall design and construction of the home is quite nice, the view and location are fantastic, and we were very comfortable. Hoping my comments will be used/considered to help improve the property for future guests.

Gorgeous Home and Spectacular View!!

  • 5 of 5

Chateau Le Mer is a beautiful home with a spectacular view!! Everything about the house is just like you see in pictures! The host family is wonderful to work with...accommodating, attentive, and fabulous to deal with!! I loved getting up every morning, brewing my coffee and walking a few steps to the water to enjoy the Gulf. The porch furniture is soooo comfy that one could sleep in the lounge chairs at night!! You could sit on the screened in porch and feel like you were sitting right in front of the water!! I highly recommend Chateau Le Mer!!

Perfect "Retreat"

  • 5 of 5

We defiantly " retreated" from the mainstream of life last week. It is such heaven to wake-up to sun and the sounds of the gulf! Kay and Bill are excellent hosts to their beach home. The inside of the house is tastefully decorated in "beach" style, including very comfortable furniture (including beds). The porch is nicely updated with new brown wicker furniture, lounge chairs(2), sofa and coffee table, and a round wicker table with 4 chairs. This is the best area to have your morning coffee, afternoon nap, and evening cocktail!

The week provided us our time to relax and enjoy "the sounds of silence". We recommend this house (and area) to anyone that loves water, sand, sun, reading, napping, beach shelling.

We love this place! We found the island in 2005 and stayed somewhere other than Chateau le Mer - never again. After a few busy years with teenage kids in sports and other activities, things have now settled down and we go back every time we can now – there is no other place we want to vacation - and even though we just returned from a perfect week long getaway at the end of January it already feels like it is way past time to plan another trip. Bill and Kay are wonderful hosts – responsive to any question we’ve ever had. The house is gorgeous, clean and comfortable – you just have to see it - every detail is there, from the beautiful moldings to the gorgeous bathrooms, both with tiled showers and one with a wonderful separate soaking tub, the two floor to ceiling sliding glass doors on the first floor that give you an amazing ocean view, two magnificent stain glass windows, two bedrooms upstairs with sliders onto a balcony overlooking the ocean. Everything you need except food and your swimsuit. Lots of towels, beach towels, dishes, pans, kickboards, noodles, umbrellas, etc. Add in the gopher tortoises living in the yard, the dolphins and manatees swimming down the shoreline, the chameleons everywhere, for my husband the fishing off the beach and off the dock on the bay side, more shells than you can imagine - paradise found! We enjoy it as a couple and there is also plenty of room when our adult children are able join us. We’ve spent five weeks there since May 2011, and haven’t found a time of year yet that we don’t love. This time we were greeted with all new appliances, right down to the washer and dryer. We sleep upstairs and wake to the view of the ocean every morning and the lounges on the screen porch are perfect for napping after a hard day at the beach.

Little Gasparilla Island is a jewel – the only place I’ve ever been that I truly would not mind never going home from. We sometimes rent a boat when we are there and really enjoy exploring the intercoastal – and the water taxi is easy and prompt if we want to go somewhere and don’t have a boat – but for the most part we really just don’t want to leave the island once we’re there.

Some folks do breathing to calm themselves when they are stressed out – me – I just close my eyes and think of the water swirling around my ankles as I shell at the south point of the island. In fact, I can hear the ocean calling me now…

Thanks for allowing us to share your island home!
