Fabulous One Bdrm Apt with huge bedroom and living room, full kitchen & gardens
So, you have made the decision to visit Charleston. Instead of hotel room, or historic inn, why not have your very own luxury apartment in one of Charleston’s historic grand homes for less than you might otherwise pay?
Only a block from White Point Gardens and Charleston’s historic battery, this charming lodging has everything you want to enjoy a truly enchanting Charleston experience. It is located on the first floor of a grand four story house (circa 1795) in Charleston’s most prestigious residential neighborhood, and yet you can still comfortably walk to the city’s famous historic attractions: museums, historic homes, famous churches, designer shopping, and fabulous restaurants. In fact, in a recent USA today ranking, seven of the top ten Charleston restaurants a located within six blocks this listing.
The apartment opens onto a large formal garden with a private entrance. This is a place to not only enjoy a special weekend, but also is a place that has the space and accommodations to ensure a gracious long term experience. The unit consists of a large living room (20 x 20), equally large bedroom, separate dining area, fully equipped gourmet kitchen, modern bath room, laundry facilities, and charming outdoor dining area nestled in the garden under ancient pittosporum and pomegranate trees. The interior reflects and complements the home’s historic character. The bedroom and living rooms feature full size fireplaces with beautiful classic mantels, wainscoting and chair rails, dentil molding on the ceilings and wide heart pine flooring. The furniture is a mixture of antiques and old period reproductions interspaced with comfortable and tastefully upholstered pieces, interesting lighting and good artwork. The bed is a wonderful four poster carved rice bed with a queen size Temperpedic mattress. The large gourmet kitchen features full size modern appliances, wonderfully spacious tile counter tops accented with Portuguese tile backsplash, extensive cabinet work stocked with high quality kitchen utensils, serving pieces, china, place mats, and other amenities of modern living. The bath area features slate tiles, two separate sinks, marble shower, and separated water closet area.
The large garden is source of unending delight. Entering from the street through your private gateway you experience a sense of peace, quiet and beauty as you make your way from the gate over the bricked patio area deeper into the garden. The main garden opens to two large oval spaced planting areas with grass centers flanked by deep planting beds containing flowering plants and evergreen bushes which provide color and fragrance as the seasons evolve. A vine covered arched passage with seating for six separates the two oval areas. A shallow reflecting pool and fountain provide accent and soft sounds to this pleasing area. The garden is shared with the owners who live on the above floors.
An automobile is not necessary to experience most of the city’s better known attractions. Parking directly in front of the apartment is limited to two hours by the city. However there is unlimited on street parking less than fifty feet to the west.
The electronic equipment includes WiFi computer connections, cable HDTVs in both the living room and bed room, IPhone capable alarm w/speaker, ice maker, microwave, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and coffee makers. The apartment has its own climate control thermostats and is completely self-contained.
The bath and bedroom are stocked with high quality linens and towels. The kitchen is stocked with great assortment of spices, and staples such as olive oil, various vinegars, and sugar for your convenience.
The City of Charleston regulates and limits accommodations in the Old Historic Area. While this is a new listing to VRBO, the apartment has been properly licensed for B&B short term accommodations for over twenty years. This is not a commercial area or property and is best suited for people who are seeking a quiet and elegant refuge.
We are a retired couple who raised our 3 children in this house. In 2001 we sailed our boat to Europe. We now spend part of the year on our boat in Europe and the other part of the year in Charleston. We have so much space in our home that we enjoy offering some of the space for rent as a B&B (no breakfast).
Jamie Molony purchased this apartment in 1978
We bought this property because it was in walking distance of anything on the pennisula and is a lovely, historic, large, gracious home. It is an exciting and happy place to be.
Fabulous location, authentic Charleston 'single house', spacious and comfortable, lovely garden and piazzas. Close to the battery, house museums, Spoleto Festival events, antique shops, fabulous restaurants. Beaches and water activities are nearby. Licensed Bed and Breakfast
More than we expected. Happened to visit Charleston during SEWE and the city was packed. So, so nice to walk back to this property and get away from it all. We walked a different street back each time to take in all the historic properties along the way. We had a whole floor of a three story house at a comparable cost to a hotel room. We have already recommended it to several friends thinking of visiting Charleston.
First of all, it is even better than it is pictured. The rooms are generous. The furniture is comfortable. The appliances are top notch. The bed and linens are wonderful. But, for us, the best part was our wonderful host. Upon seeing that we had arrived, the owner came down to welcome us and make sure there was nothing we needed. As we visited, we shared that our young granddaughters would be visiting on one of the nights of our stay. We weren't sure whether it would be overnight or only for the evening. He offered us toys for them to use and an air bed. Each time we saw him, he greeted us with a cheerful disposition and called us by name. We didn't feel like people leasing an apartment. We felt like guests. We are leaving Charleston with such a wonderful impression - mostly because we had the good fortune to stay here.
Really enjoyed this beautiful place to stay. Very comfortable and beautiful. Looks just like the pictures. The location is perfect right down the street from the Battery Park. Short drive to town to all the shopping and restaurants.
Pictures are spot on. It may even be nicer. "South of Broad" is THE neighborhood to stay in. Walk through magnificent neighborhoods or along the water. Apartment is just right. Charleston charm, beautifully appointed. Owners live upstairs and could not have been nicer or more welcoming. We stayed through the New Year, enjoyed Charleston and its restaurants and cooked in one night. It was a terrific choice. We were delighted.
Our stay was exquisite…from the first moment to the last. This elegant garden apartment was graciously appointed: world-class linens, classy yet comfortable furnishings, and a garden that delights the senses. The owners, who live upstairs, are gracious beyond every expectation. The property manager is attentive to every detail and concern. We stayed here for 4 weeks and meandered around the historic district of downtown Charleston, exploring many restaurants, shops, and peeking into spectacular, artful gardens. We hope to return again and again. This place and its people are gems.
Located in one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in downtown Charleston, this beautifully furnished downtown apartment is near the pulse of most activities offered in Charleston. Our beautiful gardens may entice you to stay home for the day but walking, hiring a pedi-cab or using one of the rate controlled cabs in the downtown area will get you anywhere you need to go in a fun way.
