Great House - Perfect for a Beach Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to get away from it all and this place fit the bill. It's located about 10 minutes outside of Hanalei Bay, over a series of one-lane bridges. There is only one restaurant within walking distance (Mediterranean Gourmet) and it was mediocre, so if you are looking to be within walking distance to many restaurants and shops I would recommend staying in Hanalei Bay proper. Because of this we ended up cooking more meals at the house than anticipated. The kitchen was totally stocked from more pots and pans that I have in my house to knives that cut well for a VRBO house and a blender. They even had some staples left over from other guests in the cabinet, such as coffee filters and assorted spices, which I thought was a nice touch.

The house also came with everything you need for a great day on a beach - beach chairs, a cooler, beach towels and even a boogy board and sand castle toys! They also had a backpack for hikes that you could use (though we brought our own). The house also had an array of games, deck of cards and puzzles, which was perfect for those North Shore rainy days (which you will most likely get one or two of).

The rooms were spacious and the deck was a perfect place to eat breakfast in the morning. There was a view of the ocean but it's quite obstructed between telephone lines and palm trees, but you can hear the waves breaking, so that was nice. The view from the bedroom windows of the mountains is equally stunning. The house is inland but you can walk about 2 minutes on the road and be at a beach. Like a lot of beaches on the North Shore, it wasn't a great swimming beach but it was perfect for afternoon cocktails.

We enjoyed everything about this house and would highly recommend it for a family or couple who are looking to be close to the picturesque beaches of the North Shore (Tunnels, Haena and Ke'e) and the Na Pali coast and are looking for a quiet getaway (well, aside from the roosters that like to wake you up around 5AM.. but you can't do anything about that!).
