About Ed and Chrissy Kizer
Chrissy, Elyse and I live in Asheville and love the natural beauty, outdoor activities, culture and people of Western North Carolina. As a special education teacher and professional counselor with modest incomes we needed an alternative way to invest our time, talent, and resources. Retreat at Miller Cove reflects our appreciation for nature, simplicity and solitude.
Ed and Chrissy Kizer purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Ed and Chrissy Kizer chose Broad River
We knew the minute we arrived at the property it was ideal for our vision of an investment property / vacation rental home and personal getaway. Pictures just don't do it justice. We feel the solitude it offers makes it ideal for those wanting to get away to just relax or to deepen their spiritual life. To that end, we are planning to continue to develop the property as a spiritual retreat adding outdoor spaces for yoga and meditation, converting the shed to a practice studio and adding a wood fired hot tub.
What makes this Cabin unique
It's almost impossible not to feel a great sense of solitude and being "away from it all" at Miller Cove. It's very rare to hear or see anyone on the neighboring properties and the road in, although it may be intimidating to some, only enhances the feeling of being further out in nature. If natural beauty and privacy are what you seek, you won't be disappointed!

Exactly what I wanted
I love everything about this place. It was perfect for my BFF and I to meet up and relax and hike. I'm sure we made it to the top of every mountain surrounding the cabin. I don't think there was another soul in the cove. At night, we were the only light we could see, except the stars. I was bummed that the shower was shut down during our stay, but that didn't take away from this unique experience. We spent most of the time outside. Slept well in the bed with the big window wide open. The road out is not for the timid or for low clearance vehicles, especially if it is raining. My friend made it in a honda accord with no problem and in the rain. I will be back!
Nice cabin, everything was as described by owners.
We had a great New Years Weekend!
Didn’t use the outside facilities due to the cold weather. Inside was warm and cozy. Perfect for our romantic getaway.
We can’t believe wait to return. Seclusion was wonderful
Place was just as described. Clean, tidy, and very comfortable! The property was beyond peaceful and inviting especially being able to hear the small creek from the property. The outdoor shower was very "freeing" and enjoyable. The location is great! It is a beautiful drive through the mountains only about 15min to Black Mountain and approximately 30min to Asheville. Ed was very helpful with any questions or concerns. It was also very nice that Ed and Chrissy provided a cell phone to use being that we had no cell service at the cabin with AT&T. Thank you again Ed and Chrissy we hope to be able to visit your cabin again.
Perfect private getaway
Immediately upon opening our car door we fell in love with the quiet woods and sound of a babbling brook. The stairs up to the cabin were charming and the landscaping with mossy lawn was beautiful. Our two pups really loved morning walks and wildlife that occasionally stopped by. Ed and Chrissy really did a great job decorating for relaxation and meditation. It was a welcomed step away from the typical polyurethaned logs and bear themed cabin rentals you find in pigeon forge. We loved all the books inside, finding "into the wild" on the shelf and drawing pencils with a yoga mat by the TV was such a nice touch! We took advantage of Ingles grocery close by which has a great selection of food and forgotten items. We made our breakfast every day with ease thanks to the cookware provided. We brought our coffee press and used the kettle sitting on the gas stove for our coffee. There is a coffee maker available for those who prefer a bigger pot of joe. There really isn't much you need to bring, the shampoo and conditioner as well as body soap in the outside shower were spa like infused with mint (we chose to use theirs over our boring bar soap). With a stacking washer and dryer a longer stay would be no problem for those who like to pack fewer clothing items. There is not a bad view in this house. Take advantage of the hammock, Japanese soak tub and outdoor shower. No need to be shy, there's no way anyone can see you. A tip for the hotub, it takes a couple hours to warm up but if you utilize the insulated pad and cover the tub after use you can retain the heat for close to two days. It gets hot! Speaking of hot water, the cabin has an excellent hot water system so enjoy that refreshing long shower outdoors from a long day of sight seeing. Black mountain was a nice trip out with some nice galleries and boutiques. Everything closes around 5-6 thru the week so keep that in mind. We also visited sliding rock, exhilarating and refreshing with the cool waters that meet you at the bottom! A must do! Asheville is also a short drive. We walked around one evening to try a few craft beers. Very friendly town colorful and lively! Definitely need another night there's just too much to see in one outing. Ben's Tune up had the best catfish sandwich EVER! Don't forget the River Arts District, plan for 3-4 hours to meet friendly artists and enjoy the art. There's maps floating around for studio location, grab one and enjoy. Could write all day! Book it already!
Beautiful little cabin surronded by nature!!!
We enjoyed our 21st Anniversary in this cozy cabin. The property is beautiful and peaceful. We enjoyed the view in the morning while drinking coffee. It's very convient to both Asheville and Black Mountain. We would recommend this cabin.
