About Thomas Lanni

I'm from Troy originally. Purchased the home in 2002 to be closer to my folks as they grew older. Now they're passed and the house feels like a gift from them. Very sentimental place. I spend time in CA and in NYC for business, so the house is underutilized. Enjoy.

Thomas Lanni purchased this house in 2002

Why Thomas Lanni chose Averill Park

Private boat dock, private floating swim dock, canoe, row boat with electric trolling motor for fishing, peddle boat, 2 kayaks and two stand up paddle boards. 1000 sq ft wrap around porch. Large (12 month) screen porch.

For the past 12 years I've had hundreds of friends and family stay at the house. It's comfortable and spacious without being stuffy. Everyone says it's "magical." I don't take credit for that- the house and the lake get all the credit. It was built in 1900. There are many different areas within the house where one can "get away" and write or read or sleep. There are also 3-4 areas where large numbers of family can gather. It's very kid-friendly. Neighbors are my best friends. The whole lake commuity is that way.

What makes this house unique

The views of the lake are sculptural. Every minute is a new minute. Shimmering diamonds in summer to steely gray in late fall, early winter and everything in between. People all say they "have never slept that well," after a night in this house. Coffee on the (12 month) "screen" porch, drinks on the wrap around porch or at the dock, grill at home or go to 4-5 local places that are excellent. Big stone fireplace in living room and radiant heat for the floors against 11 foot boxed cielings. Stretch out on one of the couches in the living room and you'll be asleep in minutes. Great times any season.

Knockout home and views.

  • 5 of 5

Three friends and I enjoyed a wonderful long weekend at your beautiful home. We couldn't have asked for a better place to hold our annual "GNO"! The house, the grounds, the views, the lake - all simply wonderful. Everything anyone could ask for. We truly felt as if we were being welcomed by a good friend.

Amazing property!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful time at this beautiful home. We are from Seattle, and we traveled here last month to attend my son's graduation from Rensselaer. We stayed for three days. The property is beautiful, the lake and surrounding neighborhood is lovely; can't say enough good things about being there!! This home has a relaxing and therapeutic quality.

The house itself is stunning, lovely architectural details and spaces. We enjoyed the covered porch which looks out over the lawn and lake beyond. Additionally, a large portion of the porch has been glazed in, and has some nice furnishings and a dining table, and we spent a lot of memorable family time there.

The kitchen is very well equipped; I was pleased to be able to use the KitchenAid mixer to whip up my son's favorite cake to celebrate! Bedrooms and bathrooms are beautiful, the house was very clean and creatively decorated.

We would definitely come back for another visit! Thank you very much Edward for sharing your beautiful home and helping to make our family gathering a very special one.

Fantastic property, owner, and rental experience

  • 5 of 5

Living in northern New England, and seeking a centrally located VRBO rental, we found this property to be perfect as a central meeting point. Our daughter took the Amtrak from NYC to Albany (the station is close to the house); our son drove a few hours on I90, which got him minutes from the house. It was easy.

The property-a beautiful 100 year old 4 bedroom house with two stone pillar entrances and a lake just across the little neighborhood street in the front yard. The heated sunroom and the beautiful living room were perfect for our spending the weekend reconnecting. It was simply wonderful.

The owner-Edward could not have been more helpful. Restaurant recommendations, input on our other questions...he was, again, wonderful. He even has a caretaker who met us at the house and gave us a tour with instructions on heating/cooling...etc.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced, elegant, wonderful place to reconnect with family and/or friends, this house is perfect. Thank you Edward for a very special weekend for our family.

Owner's Response: The Macdonald's were incredible guests and I'm happy they enjoyed themselves. When they left the house, my caretaker let me know that "you couldn't even tell anyone had stayed here." Very easy to deal with an obviously respectful of the house. Much appreciated John and family. Come back any time. Edward

Perfect for Family Winter Get-away

  • 5 of 5

My family and I met up with some close friends and their families for a long weekend around the Holidays. We had a wonderful stay. The owner and local caretaker were both very helpful and accommodating. They really went above and beyond to meet our needs. The house was warm and comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and dishes for our family meals. We fit 5 couples and 2 babies comfortably. It's a beautiful house and setting with gorgeous lake views. This house feels well loved and made us feel immediately at home. We would stay here again anytime, and actually hope to return for another reunion in the future.
