This PET FRIENDLY vacation home offers 3 bdrms 1 1/2 baths and is the best of both worlds. Offered by the proprietor of the Bigfoot Discovery Museum, this home is steeped in local history. The matriarch of the family, Margaret Rugg, was instrumental in the creation and funding of the Bigfoot Discovery Museum.

The original cabin on the site was a miners cabin that was swept away in the flood of '55. Margaret in true pioneer style gathered her family together and rebuilt the cabin on hand poured concrete posts, (in an effort to avoid future flooding), and using, (in the best Santa Cruz tradition) mostly recycled materials. Nonetheless, the floods of both 1982 and 1997 again besieged the property. Todays completed Bigfoot Resort represents the completion of a labor of love that spans 26 years and 2 generations.

Bigfoot Resort can be found on the banks of the San Lorenzo River in Gold Gulch (where the largest local single gold nugget was found in the early 1850's) nestled in the heart of the coastal redwoods, the Bigfoot Lodge has a beach to enjoy, or you can use the neighborhood bridge to cross the river and visit; The Fremont Tree in Welch's Grove, one of the few remaining first growth redwood groves. The Cowell Park Nature Center and Gift Shop. The train depot and and general store at historic Roaring Camp. In under 10 minutes, you can drive to one of Santa Cruz's many beaches.

The knotty pine adds a warmth to the home that you don't find just everywhere. Wander out onto the deck with your morning cup of coffee and contemplate the serenity of the breeze playing through the trees as they sway along the river bank.
