RUSTIC setting, nestled beautifully on an island across from STOP island on google maps. My husband and I decided to take our boys, ages 10 and twins age 7 for a fun get away. Although a bit nervous because of the lack of images, we were up for the adventure. We arrived at SEEGERTS marina, close to international falls, mn. We parked our trailer and truck there, for a fee of $5 a night. We also called ahead and talked with Byrne (pronounced burn) an older gentlemen, he is the guide that will help load all the food, suitcases, etc. into his guide boat, while we followed him to the cabin, it's about a 10 minute ride from shore. When we arrived, there is a path that goes up to the cabin that has big flagstone peices that trails all the way up to the cabin. The front entrance also has about 6 steps. So if you have a lot of heavy things, make sure you have help! Not particularly easy for anyone elderly. The boys picked where they wanted to sleep, and we settled in a bit to explore. We did wonder if anyone had cleaned before us, or if the cleaning crew didn't make it. I am not a particular person when it comes to being a neat freak, or super clean. But all the cups and shelves, containers were covered with grime, and dirt. It just felt as tho nothing has been thoroughly cleaned in a long while. But again it's an adventure, so I did end up cleaning all the shelves, cups, even the garbage containers were nasty, because I just couldn't handle it. I also dusted, and just did some cobwebbing, we even washed the windows so we could see the beautiful view better. As we settled in, the boys caught lots of fish, bass, northern, perch for the next couple of days, which they loved! Just hanging on the dock was fun, wear shoes tho, we got some slivers and stubbed toes on all the rocks! There is some awesome trails to go exploring on, we followed the path closest to the dock, down thru the neighbors storage in their yard, of canoes, boats, etc. no one was home, but there is access to the sand bar close to their storage shed. And it was a great little place for kids to swim. The sandbar must be known to some other folks on the islands too, we saw at least on 4 different occasions people would stop off their boats and jump in, washing up! Too funny! We also spotted a deer 2 times crossing the sandbar, pretty neat! We spotted turtles, loons, hawks, eagles , huge seagulls.

Our group of guys put away the cell phones and head up north every year. This has been by our our best spot. It was by all means "out there" but it had all of the comforts of home a group of guys need. Plenty of spots to fish close the island, and also Rainy has millions of spots if you want to explore. A solid GPS is a must if you want to explore so you do not end up in Canada or on a rock pile. The dock was very solid and held our boats with no issues even on some windy nights/days as it is on the backside of the island. The deck was an awesome place to sit out and play cards or just hang out. The island had some paths on it to explore. We saw quite a few deer on the island and they would swim back and forth between the two islands almost every day. There are a lot of random things at the house (utensils, outdoor equipment, chairs, boardgames, books, etc) There are 3 other places on the island but no one was there during our week, and even if they were there you be hard-pressed to hear them. Where the dock is located it is about 75 yards across a shallow bay (pulled quite a few northerns out of here) to the next set of cabins/docks. We were worried about getting out there with all our gear, and we even had a communication issue (our fault) with the caretaker and it was very easy to find our way out there. Water was a little rough, but you are behind islands on a marked path (know your buoys) and do not see much of any big water, so it was smooth sailing. Caretaker was a great guy and came and checked on us, and shared some stories. Lot of fun, great fishing, and would recommend to any group that wants an adventure. Defiantly rustic but has the creature comforts of home!

The comfortable cabin has $ million views of one of the finest fishing spots in the North America. You will love the dock space. It will easily accommodate more boats than your party could possibly need. The well made dock is wide enough to handle that flurry of activity usually experienced as your party scrambles about while preparing to shove off early every morning. From this beautiful location you will literally be minutes away from the spot where I boated a 44” pike. It’s only a 15-minute trip (with a 25hp motor) up to a point in Canada where netting 50+ fish a day (smallmouth pike and walleye) can happen to you too.

We loved this vacation getaway!
We loved this vacation getaway!
For two summers in a row, my family and I enjoyed this great cabin. Our first summer there was so enjoyable, we reserved two weeks for the following year. The fishing was great, it was a short boat ride to the mainland, and only about 10 minutes drive from shore to town. The cabin was spacious and clean, and was easily accessible from the docks. The fishing was superb, and we loved the opportunity to fill our daily limits, while having enough for dinner each day, as well as take some back home to enjoy. If it were not for our desire to use our yearly vacation time to visit other parts of the country, we would most certainly call this place home on a yearly basis. Perhaps some day, we will finally decide to do so. Thank you Mary Laura for being such a kind host, and allowing my family to enjoy a place that your family has created as their second home.
