Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 studio, 2 bathrooms

‘Hundred Mile House’, a recently completed modernist home in Wellfleet, MA is available for weekly rentals. The design was inspired by the nearby historic modernist homes and other buildings designed in the ‘40s and ‘50s by Breuer, Saltonstall, Thompson, and Gropius, and also by the common concrete sea walls that protect the fragile sandy shores of Cape Cod. This is a special place, designed to inspire. Go to www.hundredmile.house for details about the design and other projects by Duane Smith.

The home is located on a quiet road in the Pleasant Point neighborhood of Wellfleet. Drummer Cove salt water marsh is directly across the road. It’s a five-minute walk to the beach and boat landing at Pleasant Point, and one mile to the National Seashore and LeCount Hollow beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Easily walk or bike to the convenience store, liquor store, bakery, post office, bike rental, sandwich shops, and more. It’s less than a 10 minute drive to fresh water ponds, the drive-in theater, cinemas, flea market, tennis courts, and Wellfleet town center.

Upper Level: The home’s main living area is on the top floor, surrounded by 10-foot-high windows with views of the pine and oak trees, and the serene Drummer Cove beyond. Double-width glass doors from the living room open onto a mahogany deck; the perfect spot for enjoying your morning coffee, afternoon cocktails, or stargazing. The living area is filled with comfortable, contemporary furniture. The dining room has seating for 8, and a chalkboard wall to keep everyone busy with after-dinner, wine-enhanced doodles.

Everyone can be involved in meal prep around the 4x10 foot kitchen island. Chefs will love the Thermador Professional 36” gas range with built-in grill, 36” refrigerator, and Fischer-Paykel double-drawer dishwasher. At your disposal are a coffee press, toaster, food processor, pasta roller, and most common cooking utensils, spices, etc.

Also upstairs is a half bath, built-in stereo system, and a selection of books and games to keep everyone entertained.

Lower Level: The bedroom, studio and main bathroom are on the lower level, each with its own glass doors that open onto an enclosed courtyard filled with living bamboo and mahogany platforms, perfect for private midnight star-gazing or mid-day sunning. The bedroom has a queen bed, a twin-sized daybed, and walk-in closet. The bedroom is equipped with a 22' TV and stereo system. The studio has a large worktable and a 3x12’ skylight.

The main bathroom has double sinks, a modern cast-iron tub big enough for two, a 4x8’ shower with Kohler rain-shower head and mahogany flooring, and a door to the courtyard for a private, relaxing dry-off in the sun. Also on the lower level is another half bath and a full-size washer and dryer.

Outdoor Amenities: Outdoor amenities include gas and charcoal barbeques, dining table and seating for 8.

The house has in-floor radiant heat throughout, so the polished concrete floors are toasty warm on chilly mornings. High-speed wireless internet access is included. There’s no land line, but most mobile phone networks have very good coverage in the area.

The home is located on a quite road in the Pleasant Point neighborhood of Wellfleet. There’s ample parking for 4 cars. Drummer Cove salt water marsh is directly across the road. It’s a five-minute walk to the beach and boat landing at Pleasant Point, and one mile to the National Seashore and LeCount Hollow beach on the Atlantic Ocean.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your home is, in a word, stunning. Instantly we felt at home and completely at peace. The environment, the simplicity, and the tranquility inherent in the thoughtful design relieved our stress and made this a vacation destination we will want to return to in the future. Thank you so much for allowing us into your home and your vision. I hope we are nearly as good a guest as you and your house have been a host to us and that we will be welcomed back again and again.

A Great Stay at Hundred Mile House!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for the better part of a week and we loved the 'Hundred Mile' house! Not only are the accommodations spectacular, but the area in and around Wellfleet is the best part of the Cape. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer. We will definitely be back! On top of that, the owner's made everything very easy and communicated with us both before and after our visit. All-in-all a great experience!

capacious & inspired

  • 5 of 5

I love the 100 mile house. It is a place of expansive creativity yet so quiet and subtle are the musings you almost think the brilliant ideas and gourmet food you make while here were yours to begin with! The thoughtfulness of layout, art and design meld together to inspire any weekender to find their inner artist, gourmand, writer or yogi. There is enough room to spread your arms and twirl in the living room, kitchen, deck or shower;). The kitchen gives one the resources to make a meal your guests will think Jaimie Oliver delivered. Once your done with that you can walk along the marsh and see the sunset and follow it with a glass of wine on the large deck. I took one of the most deeply relaxing baths of my life here! There are plenty of nooks for guests to read or draw or slumber in. There are restaurants, bars, art galleries and shops to visit but we rarely go off the 100 mile grounds. Although we only stayed 2 nights, it felt like we were away for a week. I think it's because the space is inherently relaxing, freeing and did I mention inspiring? I can't wait to book another stay!

cape cod from a different perspective

  • 5 of 5

This amazing house offers a wonderful break from the typical cape rental experience. It is a destination into itself and makes rainy days a total treat. It's comfortable, well-appointed, elegant yet comfortable and simply a perfect context to enjoy secluded wellfleet. Cannot wait to go back.

loft on the ocean

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have dreamed of a better setting for a much needed break from the city. We arrived at night (easy to find), and were welcomed with soft lights leading us through a row of beautiful raised bed gardens up and around to the entrance. Once inside, soft polished concrete floors were warm to our feet. High ceilings, glass all around, and a beautiful functional kitchen opened up onto a gorgeous living room with a large deck. The downstairs felt like another world. Beautiful art matched with simple yet elegant furnishings made us feel both at home and elevated into a magazine spread. Its amazing how the owners created a space that both feels welcoming and high design at the same time. Nothing feels precious, but everything is well thought out.

The location was perfect for us. We didn't need to spend time in Cape traffic to get to good bars and restaurants. Everything we needed was in reach, including a farmers market, fresh fish, and a dip in the ocean. But to be honest, we spent the majority of our time in and around the house. It was a destination in and of itself. Did I mention the shower that rains from the ceiling with mahogany floors and sunlight casting shadows of bamboo leaves all around?

High Modern Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in the Hundred Mile house! It was wonderfully inviting in the photos and in person. Our eight year old loved the chalk wall, and playing with toys on the concrete floor. We enjoyed the design of the house; the modern kitchen equipment, the cool bathrooms, the rain shower, the floor to ceiling windows, and the jelly jar light fixtures. Everything in the house and property was aesthetically considered. The furniture and beds were very comfortable, the house was clean, the neighbors were friendly, and the owners very helpful in answering any questions we had.

We brought our small sailboat, took walks on the beach, and visited friends in Truro. It rained almost our whole week, but we were warm and dry in your beautiful home!
