Waking up to the ocean was absolutely amazing! The furnishings and appliances are dated, but who needs a flat screen TV when the Pacific is right out the window?
Great location. Nice comfortable house. Clean and well maintained. Kitchen stocked well enough for in-house cooking. Parking for more than one vehicle is a challenge. Four steps away from West Cliff walking path. Ocean views are non-stop. Bailey Property Mgmt. was easy to work with and ready to answer any questions. Would like to return in the future. As always, the Shadowbrook is a go to for that special night out.
We enjoyed the spaciousness of the property, and the parking availability. There are also plenty of restrooms and the master bedroom has an amazing view. We were unhappy with the cleanliness of the property, as the bedspreads had a heavy "dirty feet" smell, and the couches were smelly and stained. The property needs updates to the outdated / broken down decor - televisions are old, cabinets are broken, carpet is stained, fabric chairs are stained, 80's tiles are cracked, master bathtub needs re-grouting. Overall the site is deteriorating rapidly and needs attention. Cell phone reception is very poor at this site, but they do have internet. The location feels safe, and that's a bonus, but overall we would not stay here again due to the above.
If your looking for an up-to-date home this is not it. The living room is outdated and oddly located which makes it hard to "gather" comfortably. The kitchen was not fully stocked with cooking supplies so it made it difficult to cook anything and everything you want. The location was amazing and the views are great. We spent the majority of our time outside.
Our group of eight senior ladies rented this very comfortable house for a long weekend this September. We started having an annual reunion together three years ago, and this year's gathering at this ocean-view home was the most fun yet! We prepared our own meals in the spacious kitchen (lots of room in the fridge), ate at the dining room table (we all fit), and played Trivial Pursuit there as well. We also ate h'or d'oerves and drank wine in the comfy living room, using the coffee table for our buffet. We loved the place!
There were so many events going on in town that weekend, and we were only a short distance away from all of action. We attended the Greek Festival and also the great flea market being held downtown. We also really enjoyed walking along the West Cliff Drive "promenade" on the cliffs by the ocean, saw sea lions, otters and surfers braving the waves, and were completely awed when a humpback whale appeared directly in front of our front patio!
This is a great place for everyone. It's close to a surfing area, a swimming beach, the boardwalk, the wharf; groceries stores are only a short distance away, and there are all kinds of gift shops to wander thru downtown. The house is quite comfortable and fairly well stocked with kitchen tools and utensils. We did reserve the linen service that's available. We brought our own paper plates and cups to use, and also brought along paper towels, napkins, plastic wrap and foil, plus kitchen towels, dish rags a couple of mixing bowls and a sharp knife. We arrived in 3 cars, and there was ample off-street parking for all 3.
If you're looking for a great place to stay in Santa Cruz, we can definitely recommend 1414 West Cliff Drive.
We rented this home for 1 week for a family reunion. There were 7 of us ranging in age from 76 to 22 years. We are all fairly active. The location is fabulous. From the upstairs master bedroom balcony we watched dolphins, whales, otters, sea lions, surfers, boats, etc. You could also see some of this from the downstairs living room & patio, or just walk across the street & actually feel like a "part of the action"! Just a half mile (easy) walk or bike ride to Natural Bridges State Park. Big beach, great spot for flying kites, and the butterfly sanctuary. The trail along West Cliff drive is paved, mostly flat, and follows the bay. 2 miles to the wharf & boardwalk, about 1 mile to the surf museum, lots to see & places to get down to the beach. You can also access the tide pools (& beach at low tide) right across the street from the house. We did not need our car while we were there! We brought most of our food, but the Safeway was a short (less than 1 mile) bike ride away. (We also brought our bikes). Less than a mile from the house is also the Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery, several wineries, bakery, cafe, etc. Again, an easy walk or bike ride. There is also a Costco about 3 miles away. All 4 bedrooms were upstairs. We thought there were 2 masters, but the one on the back side of the house only had a 1/2 bath. There was a full bath downstairs. The beds were comfortable, but for some reason no one wanted to shower in the upstairs hallway bath. They either used the master bath or the downstairs. The kitchen has a 5 burner gas stove, side-by-side fridge / freezer, microwave, double oven. All were clean & working. There was also a gas BBQ that we used on the patio off the kitchen. We brought our own propane tank, but there was one there. There were various pots, pans, etc. Service for 8 dishware & extra silverware. I would suggest bringing a sharp knife if you plan to carve any meats! The dining room table was great for family meals as well as board games, etc. No one ever used the DVD. There was a washer & dryer in the garage & both worked. The overall condition of the house was good, but it really needs a good cleaning. There was ample parking & the neighbors were friendly.
