The most perfect little cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were debating a last minute getaway to Tahoe and finding this cabin available is what made up our minds. It was super last minute but Yvette is super communicative so we were able to get in touch and book right away. While we like snowboarding (the cabin is right by Homewood), what we wanted for this trip was a clean and comfy spot to relax in front of the fire with our old dog while the snow fell. We got that, and then some.

The house is well appointed with many heaters and a fireplace to stay toasty and all the essentials you often find lacking in a rental (tp, soap, fresh sponges, paper towels, tissues, hair dryers, so many clean towels, AND A WAFFLE IRON). Major bonus: There is a washer/dryer in case you get all dirty in the snow. I'm used to bringing my own, but was shocked to see that she provided detergent, fabric softener, and dryer sheets. There are several nearby markets so we were able to cook all our meals in the well-appointed kitchen. My husband loves cooking so he was very into the giant cutting board and the huge sink made it easy to clean up. There's even an honor bar, but we were plenty happy with the bottle of wine Yvette left for us.

Yvette was very upfront that the WiFi service is spotty. But seriously people, you're in the woods, on vacation, live your life, read a book, explore nature. When we needed WiFi to get directions or look something up we popped upstairs to the adorable loft and it worked fine. Otherwise, she's got a cell phone booster so we had decent LTE coverage downstairs for emergencies. There are some rules to prevent the bears from visiting, but only super simple things. Check-out required no work at all!

I love that Yvette and Paul live nearby so it feels even more warm and neighborly. They even provided coffee and brought us fresh cream and croissants! Truly an delightful vacation experience we cannot wait to repeat! Already thinking about going back over summer since it's so close to the lake.

If you're not fully convinced how much we loved it, I should mention that we actually extended our stay for a day since neither us, nor the dog, wanted to leave. Just 15 minutes away is an adorable "dog bakery" so picking up an extra night of dog food was a breeze.

PS When searching places nearby the cabin on Yelp I found a bunch of 5-star reviews for a GORGEOUS photo opp only .3 miles away. With only a 15 minute hike to the top we were blown away by the views (search: Eagle Rock)

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

For the second time we have enjoyed our stay at Yvette and Paul Shipman's cabin in Homewood. This is not only due to Paul delivering a still warm bundt cake at 8:00am on the first full day but that signature cake sure tasted good. The cabin is small, cozy, and delightful. Internet is a bit erratic but that did not bother us at all. It is a great getaway location in Homewood close to the lake and numerous hiking trails.

Convenient Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Home was a rustic gem tucked away in a convenient location to shopping and beaches. We enjoyed our stay, but was a little uneasy with all the bear warnings and bear precautions we had to adhere to when we stayed (but we did agree to it when we signed up). The cabin was a bit dark inside, but overall it suited our needs. Yvette was friendly and easy to work with. It was very nice to be able to do laundry with all the detergent and fabric softener at our fingertips (one less thing to pack and so nice to not have huge loads of laundry to do when we return home).

Why Yvette Shipman, Owner & Realtor chose Tahoe Pines

Welcome to what was my first Tahoe Home back in 1998! I am delighted to now be able to share it with you. Located in one of the West Shore's most beloved neighborhoods, Tahoe Pines is great for strolling to the beach, riding bicycles, and easy walks in the woods. It is a very sunny and friendly place. You just might get hooked. :-)

What makes this cabin unique

The back deck is lovely for coffee in the morning sunshine. There is a spacious mud room, makes for a handy "drop spot". The big dining room is a real luxury and leaves the living room more spacious than found in most cabins. The open upstairs bedroom enjoys lovely sun morning and afternoon, cross ventilation, it's own private half bath and makes for a great 2nd gathering space. Easy parking close to front door. Street level entry. Dog friendly neighborhood, beach and forest.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We're from San Francisco and we probably rent in Tahoe about 5 to 6 times a year. This cabin is probably my favorite rental over the last 10 years. I would rent from Yvette in a heartbeat. The cabin was a true feel of being in nature. It was sparkling clean! Most rental kitchens are hardly equipped to meet my needs and Yvette's kitchen had absolutely everything! It was fantastic to cook in every morning and evening. The rooms are super cozy. We're sensitive when it comes to mattresses and bedding and Yvette's bedrooms had plush warm comfortable bedding. The room upstairs is huge. Our 3 year toddler was able to sleep the first time w/ no bed guard rails in the trundle day bed and not ever fall out of bed. It was fantastic. The shower pressure was fantastic. The bedroom upstairs sleeps 4 (Queen/King bed, long couch, day bed w/ a trundle bed underneath). We have an english bulldog and the cabin was super dog friendly. It was great to leave the home and have him closed in a huge mud room w/ kennel, dog bed and toys. It was perfect for Leo. The only complaint was that the Wifi wasn't super strong, but in general that area of Homewood isn't strong. There were some moments it worked amazing and some moments it didn't. It was actually a blessing that it was not strong because I'm a workaholic and it was actually nice to really remove myself from work/technology and enjoy the cabin and our vacation. I loved this cabin so much that this wasn't really a negative at the end of the day. The icing on the cake was that Yvette brought over the most delicious cake. We went to a BBQ that night and brought it and everyone at the BBQ loved her cooking! I felt the price point for this cabin was fantastic. I'm heading up to Tahoe again Labor Day and was trying to figure out how to cancel my reservations with another home so I could rent from Yvette again. This place is absolutely #1 on my list to rent from again. No doubt about it!
