Overview

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 3 baths-2 king beds, 4 twin beds, and 2 comfy sofas.

Our home is located inside the Grandfather Golf and Country Club resort. Our home's warm interior provides a casual but upscale space to relax. Upon entering, you will find large widows and sliding glass doors giving a 180 degree northwesterly view offering beautiful evening sunsets. Relax on the deck with a loved one and a beverage of your choice and watch the sun disappear behind the mountains. Sitting high off ground, the home has an open, yet very private feel.

The main floor features: A private master suite with a king size bed, cedar walls and a full bath. A second bedroom with a king size bed and its own full bath with a double vanity. An open fully-loaded kitchen. An elegant dining room with mountain, woodland view. A spacious living room with large leather couches around an enormous two-story stone fireplace with a 55” HD TV over the mantle.

Left of the fire place is a beautiful iron spiral staircase which accesses upstairs bedrooms and a balcony. The balcony has a quaint, comfy reading chair, office area and TV. We provide wired high speed internet in the office and a router for wireless hookup anywhere in the house. The two bedrooms, each with two twin beds, share a large, full bath with a double sink vanity.

As a private and exclusive resort, the Grandfather Golf and Country Club changed its rules for 2017. VRBO renters can no longer obtain guest privileges to use the amenities of the Club.

For the winter season, our mountain getaway is perfectly located to enjoy the best of the North Carolina's ski slopes. We are a ten minute drive to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, twenty minutes from Beech Mountain Ski Resort and twenty minutes from snow tubing and the zip line at Hawksnest Resort. There are many places to cross country ski or just take a leisurely walk nearby.

McRea Meadows, home of the famous Highland games, is only a few miles away. If you are feeling adventurous, you can hike the Profile Trail and climb the majestic peaks of Grandfather Mountain. Of course, it's much easier to drive to the Mile High Swinging Bridge at the top of Grandfather Mountain which has many of the same views. If you are a backpacker or just want to hike for a day, the Appalachian Trail passes about ten miles away.

If you have children, you will want to visit Mystery Hill, the Gem Mine or the popular Tweetsie Railroad for memorable family fun. Enjoy good food from a vast array of nearby restaurants. Don’t forget to stop in the Mast General Store on the way home to satisfy a sweet tooth craving. There are too many amazing places in close proximity to list!

With unparalleled quality and comfort, this is the perfect place for family fun or some peaceful and very private relaxation. The home will warm your soul in any season and make your vacation a wonderful and memorable experience.

About Georgia Hayes

Roger and I are both from North Carolina. He was a Duke University football player and I was a UNC Chapel Hill Homecoming Queen You can imagine the rivalry in our household during March Madness! We have been married 44 years. Since we both grew up close to Charlotte (Monroe and Gastonia), we decided to raise our family there. The mountains have always been our retreat. For Roger, being an avid golfer and outdoor enthusiast, this was a perfect place. Needless to say, it was “love at first sight” when we discovered this lovely mountain home. We knew immediately that we had to have it. At that time, Roger worked for Bank of America and I owned a software business. We have both since retired and have spent many summers here in bliss. We have wonderful memories at our home at Grandfather Golf and Country Club and know you will enjoy it as much as our family and friends have! -Georgia “Peach” & Roger

Why Georgia Hayes chose Grandfather

We purchased this particular property due it's feeling of privacy, nature and wilderness in the safety of a gated community with every amenity just outside the gates. We love to hike and experience the wonders of nature, but also the privacy and solitude of our very special home. It's the best of all worlds.

What makes this house unique

You''ll see wild turkeys and deer strutting down or across the driveway. There are hiking trails nearby. McRae Meadows where the Highland Games are held, is only a few miles away. You can hear their music during the second weekend in July. The beautiful Grandfather Mountain attraction with its mile high swinging bridge is closeby.

Great Place to Escape

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mountain Paradise inside Grandfather Mountain. The home is located in a lovely golf course community with a fabulous white sand beach and many surrounding hiking trails. We enjoyed the proximity to Linville Falls, Linville Caverns, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain. The main living area is bright and clean and although the kiddos were slightly disappointed that we didn't see "a real bear," the grown-ups were very pleased with our cozy mountain accommodations. We can't wait to return!

Great home for a getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Nothing but good things to say about our time at the home. A few highlights: the living room space is fabulous. We loved having such a large room with plenty of seating for everyone to be together. The fireplace in the living room was magnificent, and the well-stocked wood pile was put too good use. Being in a country club, the home was extremely easy to access (no difficult roads), but it still felt secluded once we reached the house. The owners were fabulous to work with as well...quick to respond and easily accessible.

Great property, great location!

  • 5 of 5

The property was exactly how it was described. Location is ideal. So close to sugar mountain. We had ample room for 8 people. Everything we needed was there. Loved the wood burning fireplace. Plenty of firewood too. Great communication from Georgia! The only thing we would say is that it is dated, but overall a great place. Would totally rent again!!!

Clean, cozy, beautiful mountain home with wonderful owner

  • 5 of 5

We had a terrific time at Georgia's house. It was the best VRBO experience I've ever had. The house was warm and welcoming. It had everything we wanted ... beautiful fireplace with lots of wood, comfy furniture, high quality kitchen gear, big room for spending time together, separate quarters for quiet time, and a hammock! Georgia was incredibly friendly and helpful. She has a guidebook with instructions down to the last detail, which even allowed us to record the Auburn - Alabama game and watch it later successfully. Getting in and out was simple. And the property of the Grandfather Mountain Country Club was gorgeous and peaceful. We really felt lucky to be able to spend time here. It's a special place. Thank you, Georgia!

Great Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed a terrific two week stay at this mountain retreat at Grandfather CC. The quiet and clean setting was perfect for outdoor activities. They are several beautiful hiking trails both on the property and nearby. The Owner is a wry gracious host and offers much insight into the points of interest within the NC High Country. We would definitely rent again!
