Burntshirt Vintner’s Cottage

This charming 1939 stone cottage, with it’s delightful kitchen and enchanting nooks and crannies, is a pleasure to behold. When we renovated the Vintner’s Cottage we were intent on maintaining the vintage charm and warm cozy feeling. The kitchen is decorated in an endearing retro/vintage style. We have decorated the home with antiques, comfortable living room furniture and vintage accent pieces. The fireplace shown in the pictures is decorative only. It has 2 bedrooms (double beds), 1 full bath (bathtub and shower), and living room. The house has front and back porches. The house is located on the grounds of the vineyard and apple orchard, and boasts beautiful gardens,& walking trails. You will truly enjoy relaxing on the covered front porch at sunset with a glass of your favorite wine; the view is nothing short of spectacular as the vineyard is spread out before you! The back porch features a view of our iconic red barn, the apple orchard and flower gardens. At the close of the vineyard in the evening this bountiful expanse of property is yours to explore – enjoy a peaceful evening stroll when all you hear are the chirping of birds, the aroma of the flowers and the cool mountain breezes.

About Burntshirt Vineyards Team

Our family has been a part of the history of Western North Carolina. Grandfather Oates built a waterwheel in the 30's and provided electricity to the surrounding neighbors in a remote area near Chimney Rock. This concern for community has been handed down from generation to generation with pride.

Burntshirt Vineyards Team purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Burntshirt Vineyards Team chose Smoky Mountains

We owned the land across the street and ventured into growing grapes for wine. The harvest was so excellent, we decided to make the wine ourselves rather than sell the grapes. So voila, we were in the wine making business and in need of a tasting room. We had the opportunity to purchase the apple orchard across the street from the vineyard. The property had nice craftsman style house which we turned into the tasting room and the lovely stone cottage. My wife, Sandra, couldn't wait to renovate and decorate the charming cottage; she kept the retro vintage feel she so dearly loved. She's quite talented as you can see from the pictures. She was intent on respecting the heritage of the family we purchased the property from and kept many items of significance to them and the history of the farm.

What makes this cottage unique

There is so much to love about staying at Vintner's Cottage, the retro style kitchen is fully equipped and the home is filled with antiques creating a relaxed comfortable atmosphere in the home. It's like being at a lovely bed and breakfast but with privacy! During the day you can take the winery tour, everyone meets at the tasting room at 2, and enjoys an informative tour. If you wish to have a nice picnic lunch, you can place your order the day before and your lunch will be delivered to the tasting room from A Day In The Country's Café on the Veranda around noon. The chicken salad is amazing! And of course you can enjoy a relaxing wine tasting at the tasting room and we even have a little gift shop on the grounds. We invite people to freely stroll about the gardens and enjoy the beauty and discover all the special areas on their own. Hendersonville has lots of really nice restaurants, like Mezzaluna and West First Pizza. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and top notch dishes for dinner. And on Saturday's enjoy the afternoon listening to an entertaining local musician either on the patio or at The Summit event center during inclement weather. Oh and don't forget, on Fridays we serve delightful appetizers with the wine tasting!

Disappointed

  • 1 of 5

I love the vineyard and have always enjoyed the winery--and recommend that you visit these if you are in the area.

However, I did not realize how close to the road this cottage is, and the traffic on Sugarloaf Road is nonstop. One of the cottage's bedrooms and the front porch is just a few feet from the road.

In addition, though I realize I made my reservation at the last minute, I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the cottage. If you cannot accommodate someone, just let them know. The bathroom window (inside the shower) is either leaking or the wood window trim is rotting due to the shower water--either way, the tile and grout beneath this window was not clean (moldy on top). The cottage itself was also not as clean as I expected (Kitchen counters and sink), and there did not seem to be any lids for the pots / pans.

I rent in the Hendersonville area twice a year--in the same price range--but I'm sorry to say I will not be staying here in the future.

Ok for short stay

  • 3 of 5

Everyone at vineyard tasting room very nice, but property on busy road which ruins ambiance of the vineyard. Place not cleaned well, limited kitchen supplies if you like to cook like we do. Old cottage, could use an update. We stayed a week which was too long, thus the downside of strict cancellation policies....once you arrive, you gotta stay. Hopefully these rental sites will give renters some recourse down the road.

Unique and memorable and experience

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived and we're greeted warmly by Andre until the day we left, we were made to feel welcome and special. Hotels and motels are a dime a dozen but a beautiful and cozy cottage on the site of a wonderful winery are rare and special. We hope we are lucky enough to return again some time. Until then, we will cherish the memories we made with the help of the Burntshirt team.

Celebrating 49th anniversary

  • 5 of 5

Loved everything about this cottage, the private front porch and the back porch overlooking the land around the barn, the flowers around the cottage, the kitchen is fun with the older appliances, walking in the vineyard early in the morning, sitting on the large swing hanging from a tree in the front yard with a beautiful view overlooking the vineyard, and of course enjoyed the short walk next door to the tasting room.

Perfect for sister's get-away

  • 5 of 5

Lots of charm in this cottage and lots of room, too. It was very comfortable for the two of us. We enjoyed going to Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard, and the Pisgah National Forest. Turned out to be a great convenient location for us. Evenings we relaxed with wine from Burntshirt Vineyards. The location felt very private and the grounds were lovely. The front porch (pictured) overlooks the vineyards. Another review mentioned traffic sounds - we heard them but didn't deter from relaxing and sound sleeping. The bedrooms with double beds were comfortable and we had plenty of thick and fluffy towels. One caveat - if you want to cook, bring dishwashing soap and dish towels, otherwise the basics are there for some eat-in meals. We were sad to go!
