Come and kick off your shoes & sink your toes in the sand or cast your line from the less-traveled, pristine beaches of Little Gasparilla Island at AfterDune Delight Cottage!
A true hidden treasure; Little Gasparilla Island is a bridge less, tropical barrier island just off the West Coast of Florida located midway between Tampa and Naples not far from the cities of Boca Grande and Englewood Florida. Unspoiled by seawalls and high rises, it has no roads and no car traffic, just white sand paths for exploring. Here you’ll find 7 miles of pristine white sandy beaches, fantastic fishing opportunities, an abundance of sea shells and prehistoric shark’s teeth to gather, dramatic sunsets and balmy tropical breezes.
You must take a water taxi to reach the cottage. There are no cars on the island but a car is recommended if you want to explore the mainland and visit local shops, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Your vehicle can be left at Eldred's Marina where the water taxi departs from daily for the island. Parking fee is $6 per day at Eldred's. Water taxi price is currently $20 for 2 persons each way and $10 for each additional person during daylight hours of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Water taxi is available outside of these hours with reservation but prices vary.
It is recommended that travelers rent a golf cart on the island for easy transport of luggage and supplies from the dock to the cottage (too far to walk) and also a fun way to explore the island! Cart rates are $50 per day with discounted rates for weekly rentals. Call ahead to reserve your cart and it will be waiting for you at the dock when you arrive. Another much less expensive option is to hire the Island Concierge, a young man that will transport you and your luggage/supplies on his golf cart and works for tips.
This rustic 2 bedroom has a cheerful vintage island style and has been nicely updated with granite counters in kitchen and bath and a new tiled shower. Cook your fresh catch of the day on the outdoor grill and dine with the double french doors to the deck open wide to catch the wonderful sea breezes inside, sip on your favorite beverage at the kitchen breakfast bar, read a book at the waters edge or hunt for fossils and shark's teeth, maybe soaking up some rays on the deck or viewing every sunset during your stay is in order? Whatever your choice, the cottage is the perfect place to spend your time.
This private and incredible beach location ensures you experience the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. At AfterDune Delight cottage you can relax and leave all your worries behind. Bring your groceries and drinks along or enjoy excellent restaurants on the mainland. For those that like to stay active you can travel to the mainland where you rent a kayak or paddleboard for the day or take various tours.
Modern amenities are present including AC/heat satellite TV and wifi should you choose to use them.
So cruise over to the cottage and enjoy one of the most beautiful islands on west coast of Florida!
Please Note: There is no dock associated with this rental.
Just returned from a wonderful 7 days on Little Gasparilla Island staying at After Dune Delight. The cottage had everything you needed for a simple, quiet, beach vacation. Lots of leftover supplies from previous vacationers. Perfect location, very close to the state park. Spend many hours on the beach looking for shells. Distance to house from dock is kind of far, so be sure to rent a golf cart or have Bret pick you up. Both are very easy reliable. We will be back!
We stayed for a week, and could not have been happier with the accomodations. Comfortable for our family of four although we spent more time enjoying the beach, the walks, the State Park, the starry nights and the abundance of nature.
We rented a golf cart to get around the island since there are no cars, and it was barely used due to the fact the walks are so enjoyable.
We look forward to many more vacations on Little Gasparilla Island in the future and recommend this beach house to anyone who dreams of the ideal beach vacation.
We had such a perfect getaway. Everything was simple but just enough. We loved the view and being able to run back and forth to the house so easily. It is just steps to the sand. It was nice not having to pack a beach bag. We just ran back for water, snacks, dry clothes, more sand toys, etc. Or better yet, just send the kids. There is lots of shade to enjoy if the beach gets too hot. We made use of the beach umbrellas, towels, and beach chairs. They were all in great shape! We didn't find many sand toys for the kids. A simple bucket and shovel would have been nice, but we managed to improvise just fine. There were a few boogie boards and floats that the kids had fun with. We also enjoyed exploring the island, and borrowed a few books and even sand toys from Hoot's Library. It's the cutest! Be sure to check it out. We had fun on our nightly golf cart rides and visited the gift shop just past the cottage. Sweet couple with neat beachy jewelry, art, tshirts, etc. I can't think of much else we needed that we didn't have/bring. We packed as light as possible and it was just right. There were lots of left over supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, spices, oils, aluminum foil, and tons of unopened salad dressings that had been left behind. Little things like lotion, band aids, and bug spray. I know it's not always guaranteed to be there but it was nice to have. We got a beautiful sunset every night and found lots of shark teeth. 430 to be exact! The bugs got a little annoying on nights where there was no breeze, but it's not a bad price to pay for the view and the stars. We would love to come back again soon! Thanks for sharing your beach cottage!
Relaxation at its best! The owners were responsive and made sure we had everything necessary, even not so necessary :o) Thanks for sending the beach chairs! The most dog-friendly island, our little Pablo had a wonderful time. Look forward to our return.
We stayed during Thanksgiving week 2015. The weather was beautiful, the cottage was clean and had everything we needed. The owner was responsive to questions and very helpful. Being away from it all was wonderful - it was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. The location right on the beach was spectacular. There is nothing like being able to walk out the door and be only a few steps away from hitting sand. The kids enjoyed hunting for sharks teeth, boogie boarding (there are boogie boards in the shed next to the washer and dryer), and fishing right on the beach. Our chihuahua also appreciated that the beach was dog friendly and often "supervised" the fishing. The fishing on the beach was much better than we expected. I spent many hours in the shade on the deck listening to the waves roll in. The deck was also where I did my "Day after Thanksgiving" Christmas shopping. Wifi plus laptop plus ocean breeze? Way better than being at the mall, that's for sure. There was a table with 4 chairs immediately out the french doors that we often ate breakfast on. There were two additional lounge chairs on the deck. The grill was awesome, and we cooked on it most nights. There were plenty of towels and linens. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the appliances we needed. A quick note: there is a full size counter top stove and a toaster oven. There is not a full size oven. Plan your meals accordingly. We didn't miss it; you won't either.
Getting to the cottage - I noticed that a previous reviewer commented on how short of a walk it was to the cottage from the dock. It is a short pleasant walk. However, this is only true when you aren't trying to haul luggage. When you are hauling a weeks worth of luggage and food for a family of four in soft dirt right after it had rained (think mud), you will swear the walk is more like 10 miles up a mountain. We had planned to use the island teenager who works for tips but it was his birthday the day we arrived and he wasn't on the island. We thought - how bad could it be? Bad, very bad. I promise you. Rent a golf cart if you have to. You will thank me. That being said, once we got there it was total paradise. Best vacation ever. Don't pass this one up.
We absolutely loved our stay. The home was perfect. We will stay again, hopefully next year. It had everything we needed. Felt like the home was just an extension of the beach. Thank you!
Although no commercial establishments are located on the island, just a short boat ride away you will find several waterfront restaurants with grocery stores, shopping, entertainment, banking and other services just a short distance from the island.
