THIS IS WHAT OUR GUESTS ARE SAYING....
* The house was great and we had a fantastic time in Kauai. It is hard to get back into the daily grind again. I will contact you when we return to Kauai.
GUESTS FROM LA MESA, CA
* We had a wonderful time at Shaka Hale. We absolutely loved the house, it is truly a gem - fantastically appointed and very beautiful. Mahalo for introducing us to this beautiful place.
GUESTS FROM CONCORD, MA
* Our stay in Kauai was great. Much because of this impressive house and friendly locals. It is not often that a house is even better than in the pictures! As you know I am a real estate professional, and this kind of rental property is rare. The community of Kekaha was really friendly. We often recived mangos on our door step, and we were invited to the 4th of July fireworks with the neighbors.
GUESTS FROM OSLO, NORWAY
* It was wonderful beyond words! I wish I was still there. I can't recall the last time I felt that relaxed. The house had every amenity one would ever need and was very beautiful and comfortable. Would it be redundant to say we found 'perfection in paradise'? I will check your web site 'cause I'm coming back!
GUESTS FROM HOUSTON, TX
* Oh....Gosh....I really swear that we could write a book to you about this property! We had an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G time! The house was absolutely perfect and the fact that it was directly across from the beach was even more perfect! We spent every evening grilling and chilling at the kitchen table. Either telling stories or talking about what we had experienced that day. This was a TRUE vacation for all of us. There were NO complaints from my family. We all were very sad to leave Kauai. We had 10 days of total sunshine on Kekaha, regardless of what was happening on the other sides of the island. THAT to me was amazing! We would literally drive 5 miles away from the house into clouds, rain and wind. Head back to Kekaha and had total sunshine and 84 degrees! I hate to think of what will happen to that pristine side once others figure out how beautifully consistent the weather is. This will forever be a vacation I won't forget! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
GUESTS FROM Palm Desert, CA
* We've returned from Kauai and are finding it hard to adjust to the Norther California climate. We had two wonderful weeks in Kekaha, and Shaka Hale had a lot to do with it. It was perfect for our family. It's a great house, and we all loved staying there. Thanks for all your advice and assistance. Aloha!

We were very pleased with the house during our stay in July. Chad is very easy, and nice, to communicate with and always responded back in efficient amount of time. The house’s accommodations were excellent. We had 7 adults staying in the house and we had plenty of room. The house was beautiful and family friendly. In the garage were an assortment of beach toys, fishing gear, chairs and coolers, and there’s easy access to the beach. The kitchen was wonderful to use and was well stocked with appliances/utensils. We would definitely recommend this house, and using Chad again in the future!
We had the pleasure of enjoying our 30th wedding anniversary with our 3 children, 1 grandson, and 1 sister in law. We stayed 7 days at Shaka and did not regret one moment. Kauai was all that people say it is, Paradise with chickens. Shaka Hale is a beautiful house with a bit of rustic charm. Japanese artistry and decor was very nice, tying in that part of the Hawaiian culture. The road in front of the beach was not a problem, and hearing the surf at night made up for the very minor traffic passing by. During the day we were out sightseeing anyway, so daytime traffic didn’t matter. We rented two cars and both fit into the spacious garage. Spent many nights outside gazing at the very dark skies. Shaka Hale is on the west end of Kauai so the stars are more vivid due to its dryer climate. There was not a thing needed that Shaka did not provide. Beautiful is all I can say and hopefully return with my family again very soon. Pros: Far from the general tourist resorts, Dark skies, Near Wamea Canyon, Rustic, spacious for 7 people, romantic, beachfront, and felt like home. Cons: far from Lihue and attractions on east, and north side of island, dark roads so make yourself familiar with streetview in goggle map, chickens chickens and more chickens, road in front of house (light traffic). All of us miss Kauai, and Shaka Hale. We will return!
We loved our stay at Shaka Hale. The house is lovely, and well equipped with everything you will need for the beach or BBQ. There was lots of room for the our extended family, with space to gather or be separate. We prefer staying out of the main tourist areas, so love the location, which is in a small town and right on the water. Easy access to Waimea Canyon, swimming beaches (Salt Ponds is our favorite, the beach closest is not as swimmable), and Poipu if touristy areas are your thing. Chad and Scott, property managers, are fabulous to deal with. Can't get better than this!
We've been coming to Shaka Hale for about 6 or 7 years now. We love the house, and love the location. It's tranquil, and in a beautiful area. The house is well appointed, especially the kitchen, which we use often to cook our own dinners after shopping at the local markets for fresh fish. We also spend a lot of our time out at Polihale beach. It's not for everyone, but we love it. We also make many excursions to Poipu, which is only 10 or 15 minutes away. Kauai definitely has a different, more laid-back vibe than the other islands, and this beautiful house fits right in. We often takes long naps on the lanai, and cook out almost every night. I hope to keep coming for another decade!
I stayed a week at Shaka Hale with 5 other adults. I could have stayed a month. The house was spacious and beautiful, with lots of large and small spots where you could have a quiet conversation or paint or nap or stare out at the ocean. I loved the location--away from the bustle of Poipu, a true residential neighborhood, with a community center and a tiny farmers market and a long clean empty beach right across the street. It's not great for swimming there--strong currents--but we could walk forever. The house had several wonderful decks and was very nicely furnished and decorated. This is exactly where I want to stay on my next Kauai vacation!
If you're like me, you have experienced disappointment upon arriving at the rental or resort of a well-planned vacation - that will NOT happen to you with this house!
As soon as you open the door of Shaka Hale, you feel as though you are being welcomed into the lovely home of a friend. It is beautifully decorated; elegant, yet comfortable. Nothing has been overlooked to ensure that your stay is anything but enjoyable: fully equipped kitchen, outdoor grill, plenty of linens (including beach towels), quality mattresses/bed linens, washer/dryer and 2nd refrigerator in the garage - we even discovered multiple beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling sets and boogie boards. A pleasant surprise!
My family of 4 (including 2 teenage boys over 6') was joined by 4 other adult family members - and we never felt crowded. The 2 separate living areas and multiple lanais provided personal space for those who wanted to relax or read, yet the roomy, open floor plan downstairs allowed us to gather for meals and plan our next day of adventure!
A road separates the house from the ocean, but the landscaping you see in the picture provides a buffer - as well as a path to the long, sandy beach that awaits your morning walks :).
We never had rain on this sunny side of the island during our stay, though you probably will get wet if you visit the East or North shores. This house is conveniently located to Waimea Canyon, and it's an easy drive to the beaches and restaurants in Poipu, Spouting Horn and the Allerton Gardens. We actually appreciated being able to return to our quiet "neighborhood" after a full day of sightseeing or adventure and enjoy a glass of wine on one of the lanais, watching the sun set over the ocean :).
Must-dos: snorkeling at one of the many beaches in Poipu, Waimea Canyon, Napali Coast boat tour, North Shore (how many shades of green are there?!), shave ice at Hee Fat in Kapa'a, Allerton Gardens (bring bug spray!), air tour, sunset dinner at The Beach House.
Last, but not least, Chad (rental agent) is amazing to work with! From my first inquiry he was very responsive, generous with his time, and went out of his way to be informative and helpful - ensuring that our stay would be memorable. He even facilitated having a "happy first anniversary" sign I made being hung in the house to greet my niece before our arrival! Our experience was that we weren't just another "transaction" to him.
Shaka Hale - and Kauai - awaits you . . . :)
