If you are looking for the perfect tropical destination on the North Shore of Kauai, this is it. Overlooking Hanalei Bay with views of Bali Hai (Mt Makana), Hanalei Bay Resort 4222 is special! Hanalei Bay Resort has always been regarded as one of the top resorts to stay on the North Shore of Kauai. Stroll along 22 acres of tropical landscaping and quiet paths. Sit on the lanai and witness some of the most beautiful sunsets you've ever seen. After a light rain the rainbows will dance off the bay.
This sought after and popular condo, recommended frequently on TRIP ADVISOR, can be rented as a ONE BEDROOM (4222) or two bedroom that sleeps up to 7 (4221/2). ONE OF THE FEW CONDOS AT HBR WITH AIR CONDITIONING IN BOTH BEDROOMS and living room. I even have a child's cot and porta crib for the little ones.
Pu'u Poa Beach and The St Regis Hotel are below via a paved path. Bell service can drive you down or back up if you don't want the the 5 minute stroll. (THIS IS THE BEACH IN THE MOVIE 'THE DESCENDANTS') Other top beaches are within 10-25 minutes as well as numerous activities (zipline, golf, horseback riding, surfing, SUP, kayaking, hiking, garden tours and mini golf) and dining in the towns of Hanalei and Princeville. My favorite restaurants are Kauai Grill at The St Regis Hotel for that extra special occasion dinner, and BarAcuda in Hanalei for tapas and cocktails. Poolside mai tai reception every Monday evening, activity discounts to the 2 golf courses nearby, golf cart transportation to your room and around the resort and the beach and a world class tennis program.
Restaurant/bar/fitness center closed and under renovations. Due to reopen spring 2014

Besides saying that we will never regret choosing Kauai as our Hawaiian island of choice for our (hopefully not) once-in-a-lifetime vacation...my husband both agree that this condo unit 4222 under Joan Bettencourt's ownership was a wise gamble.
From the moment we stepped into the beautiful open-air lobby we just felt like we were dreaming and this whole vacation had to be too good to be true! It wasn't. The condo was beyond our expectations. It not only had updated furniture, but it was SO clean. Not just surface clean, but the comforters were clean...which is always a huge indicator for me of a quality vacation rental. The bed was very comfortable, our sleep was so solid.
Something that stood out as well was the fact she made sure there were AC units in both the bedroom and living room. We are AC dependent, living in a tropical area ourselves, so when most rental companies told us in Kauai the ocean breezes are so strong you don't need it, we went back and forth in deciding. We went in May and let me tell you, it does make a difference. We didn't know how good we had it until we left. We had a vacation rental directly on the ocean in Poipu and were miserable as far as the heat goes with no AC. So if you are a little more sensitive to heat it may be something to consider.
The grounds were perfect, the beach you can walk to was gorgeous and the pool area was fantastic!
Joan was easy to work with and she was extremely helpful in every way.

Nice time on KauaiGuest comment entered by owner
Nice time on Kauai
Aloha Joan; Back home now. Had a very nice time on Kauai. We when to the Luau at the Plantation in Lihue this time and it was the best I ever been to. The show there was really very good. We enjoy your condo, I think there was a new stove and refrig, the stove really worked well for me. The waves were much calmer then what we get in Dec. One day it was flat flat but the other days we had well spaced out 4 footers that were fun for me and the spacing allow our son to learn how to catch a wave without getting pounded. On the flat day Mila actually spent most of the day in the water. Usually she just watches us in the surf. So this trip she had her most ocean time ever. We had a great time and look forward to getting back to Bali Hai. Thanks Tom and Mila

Heaven scent hideout in Hanalei
Heaven scent hideout in Hanalei
From the moment we drove onto the property we knew we had landed in the lap of luxury and elegance--- yet with all of the comforts of home. The condo was amazing: seriously up-to-date , comfortable and well stocked. But the real gift was in the spectacular view of the waterfall, the wonderful walking trails where one can stop and take photos of their favorite flowers and other greenery in the impeccable gardens of Hanalei Bay Resort. I particularly appreciated the owner, Joan, for taking such an interest in what activities and day trips would be perfect for my husband and I. I was shocked to find out that the best snorkeling ever was right there at the beach of 4222. Joan recommended and we thoroughly enjoyed the fern grotto boat trip, the farmer's market, the Luau, and the free hula show at the shopping center! She also recommended specific restaurants and they were perfect. At the end of the day, one need not spend very much money, as the real gift is the ambiance of the Garden Island of Hawaii. We really made memories and look forward to making more!

Should be 4 1/2!
Should be 4 1/2!
We've been going to Kauai for years so we feel we know the island pretty well. We've stayed in many different places from condos to private homes to hotels in all price range. We've stayed on all sides except the west and NS hands down is our favorite, any time of the year. Though we break up the stays between NS and SS in the rainier winter months, NS is where we wanted to be the whole time we were there in September. I think it rained more than usual for September but the views from our condo was simply stunning. So glad we chose HBR. The best thing going for the condo is the view. I know some of the condos are supposed to have better views and I might look into in the future but maybe not. I'm looking forward to the bathroom remodel because that is one area where it fell little short. But I know the owner has plans in modernizing it. The only other negative for me and my husband personally are the artificial trees and plants. I know this being a vacation rental, keeping live flowers and plants...well, live, is difficult. Still, I'd rather decorate with something else or nothing at all. Vases would be nice so that I could use it to put my own flowers in it from the farmers market. But like I said, this is a personal taste thing. Other than that, everything else was great! The bed was super comfy and I never thought I'd appreciate this so much, but the air conditioning was much, much appreciated! We didn't use it every day but the days we did, the quick cooling off was heavenly! The 2 Monday nights we were there, we never made it to the Mai Tai meet and greet. We were too busy having fun elsewhere. We walked where we could within Princeville. We walked to Hideaways just about everyday. Snorkeling was really good there. Saw many turtles. We were lucky to see a monk seal there once. Such a small beach, it was nice to see everyone give the seal its' space. Walk to Queen's Bath was pleasant and fun. Spent couple days/evening on the St. Regis beach where the sunsets were also amazing. My 2 best sunset shots ever are from our lanai @ HBR and St. Regis beach. Other than that, between hanging and dining in Hanalei, hiking to Hanakapiai Falls, snorkeling @ Tunnels and kayaking, the 11 days went by way too fast. Favorite dinner spot is still BarAcuda and a new find is Kauai Ono. Of course one of our favorites was having pupus and drinks on the lanai.

Owner response: Thank you so much for choosing my island home when I know you have so many options of places to stay on the North Shore. The bathroom and kitchen remodel will be completed by November 20th, 2013. I can't wait to show you the pictures so you can see the even more improved condo with travertine tile, exotic granites and bamboo cabinets. I am sorry you did not see the vases. There is one under the bathroom vanity and two in the cabinet above the stove. I always enjoy fresh flowers when I am visiting the island too. The local farmer's markets and honor stands that dot the island are a wonderful way to bring in the outside to the condo. Live plants tend to make a dirty smell to the interior (and a bug issue) and therefore I got rid of them and they were replaced with artificial trees and plants as most owners have done to bring a more tropical fee to the units. I'm sorry it was not to your liking and completely understand that we can't please everyone. Again thank you for the opportunity to show you HBR and the terrific views it has to offer from my island home. Mahalo, Bill and Joan Bettencourt

Sorted by Date Rating “Amazing and gorgeous place to stay on North Shore!!!” Reviewed September 18, 2013 for a stay in August 2013 This condo unit is beyond amazing!! The spectacular view and location, along with the extremely nice furnishings, make this an incredibly fantastic vacation home. For anyone looking for modest elegance, a comfortable sofa and bed, and a breathtaking view in the morning and at sunset, I highly recommend this unit. I could have stayed on the lanai and stared at that view 24/7, but of course being on the North Shore means you'll also want to get out and explore the natural beauty of one of the most breathtaking locations in the world. The owner of this unit takes a special interest in each guest and does everything possible to ensure a pleasant stay. The booking process was extremely easy, and there was not a single question the owner could not answer, and you can tell it is done with a smile and with enthusiasm!!!

The condo was very nice with a beautiful view! Joan/owner was just great and made everything so easy. I have used VRBO many times and this was one of my best experiences. Everything was very clean, the kitchen was well stocked - even a salad spinner!! The view from the terrace was just incredible and relaxing - not just the view to the water, mountains, waterfalls, sailboats, and paddle boarders - but also the beautifully landscaped and lush grounds. I can't wait to go back when I can stay longer!

“Amazing Views!!! Can't be beat.” Reviewed August 15, 2013 NEW We stayed in Condo 4222 for our Honeymoon and absolutely LOVED it! The condo has been completely redone and is very up to date compared to the others (what we were told). The lanai has a great view of Hanalei Bay too. Every morning we enjoyed breakfast out there and had multiple days where there was a rainbow over the bay after a brief rain shower. Just amazing. The owner of the condo also has air conditioner in the unit which was very much appreciated and in our minds needed at night when going to sleep. There is also a flat screen TV with DVD player and a selection of movies that appear to have scenes that feature Kauai which we loved. There is also a washer and dryer in unit which was a life saver. What I really loved about the owner of this condo was that she was always in touch and gave us additional tips and places to see while we were there. The only thing that could have been better was the hot water could have lasted longer, however that is not a huge deal breaker considering the views and area in which the resort is located. The access to the beach below (shares a beach with the St. Regis) was awesome too. The pool was great and appears it will be even better once construction is done - same with the lobby and restaurant. We can't wait to come back once that is completed. Overall - this was the perfect, quiet, romantic escape for us. Would get five stars if everything was up to date and in working order (i.e. pools, lobby, restaurant). Looking forward to going back one of these days!
