About Julie Miler

We are a family of the Lowcounty who fell in love with Kiawah at first blush. In fact, we spent our honeymoon on Kiawah almost 30 years ago and continue to spend family vacation time on Kiawah. Even though we live less than an hour away, being at the beach on Kiawah is still like going to a paradise get-a-way! We are an active family, so we enjoy the many activities that Kiawah offers, especially the golf and tennis. But early morning walks along the beach, catching a sunrise, watching the dolphins play, or just looking for seashells is still our favorite part of the day.

Julie Miler purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Julie Miler chose Kiawah Island

Charleston, SC was voted the #1 tourist destination in the world and we feel that Kiawah is the best family vacation resort island in America! The naturally preserved environment allows one to enjoy the beach and the river marshes. The natural habitats for birds, dolphins, deer,

alligators, and beautiful sunsets will bring you back for more!

What makes this cottage unique

The wide variety of first class activities, the unbelievabe beaches, the miles of paved bike trails, the fantastic amenities, the incredible sunsets............all of these and more allow us to renew our life batteries, build more family memories, and meet wonderful folks from around the world.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Jeanne,

Well, we had another wonderful time vacationing at your beach cottage on Kiawah. What is it now, 12 years in a row that we have stayed there? I guess we are creatures of habit, because we love coming to your Inlet Cove cottage. It is just right for us. And convenient to everything. We met the most delightful couple at the private community pool who are also from Ohio....what a small world. In fact, both he and my husband went to Ohio State! As you know we usually don't walk to the end of the west beach due to my knee, but one day we did and saw 3 dolphins playing in the surf not more than 10 yards away from us. It was like a special show at Seaworld!! Thank you again for "booking" us on the 1st of August, it was the onlhy time we could come this summer. You are so sweet! The place was great. We are looking forward to coming again next summer. Take care. Susan

Pleasant stay and fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this house with another couple and it would have easily accommodated two more people. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of seating area in the living room and also two tables we could use for meals. The kitchen was well equipped and we made two meals a day in the house. The house also comes supplied with four bikes and also beach chairs! Even though bikes are supplied, the beach is a really short walk from the house, so bikes aren't even needed for that. We also visited the community pool and it was very nice with bathrooms and a screened-in area with picnic tables you could use for lunch. Right beside the pool area is a walkway out to a dock on the river. We thought about trying to go crabbing off the dock but then we would have had to figure out how to cook the crabs, so we didn't attempt it. But we saw some other people with several crabs in their trap.

The house is equipped with a washer and dryer and that was very convenient. We also had plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags, which are supplies that don't always come with a rental house. There are also board games, DVDs, and some books on the bookshelf you can read.

One huge plus here is the fact that we DIDN'T SEE ANY creepy crawlies! In a previous house we rented on Kiawah Island, we saw several roaches and huge palmetto bugs inside the house. Not so here! I know that tropical locations can have issues with that sort of thing, but we didn't see one of those here, much to my huge relief!

One side note - if you head in to Mount Pleasant for dinner, try Long Point Grill. You won't regret it! It was our favorite dinner during our time there.

All in all, it was a fantastic house with a great location and I wouldn't hesitate renting it again in the future. The owners were wonderful to deal with and were great with communication. I felt like we were visiting a family member or friend.

Thanks to the Milers for your generous hospitality!

In a great location, but needs some attention

  • 3 of 5

This home was our base for the 2017 Solar Eclipse. We were 4 adults and 2 kids spending 3 nights here. I have stayed at many rental properties around the US and abroad via VRBO/Homeaway & Airbnb, and I try to be as transparent as possible with my reviews.

Pre-arrival & check-in: Good communication. Everything was setup before we got there in terms of access codes & parking passes. Access via a lockbox -- no problems!

Location: not even 5 minutes walk to the pool, and only a little further to the beach & nearby convenience store. Lots of paths to explore -- most walking in the shade. Very nice for walking and exploring.

Internet: Some devices had issues connecting to the wifi, others didn't. Mine was fine and had good speeds.

TV: HD channels! The kids were glued to the cartoons.

* There seems to be, or have been, some roof leaks. There are patches on the ceiling throughout the house that are evident of moisture damage.

* One of the twin beds seems to be broken or just not the right size for the mattress. Beds were good otherwise.

* Grill works but needs to be maintained with new burner tubes -- had some huge hotspots from gas pouring out of some of them.

* There were ants in the kitchen when we got there. They were a constant presence no matter how many times we cleaned them up, coming from different places.

* Roaches -- I lost count of how many we saw inside. One came out of the cutlery drawer when my wife went for a spoon. There were a few cans of raid around, but... yeah.

* Generally the house was below average in cleanliness. There's a lot of evidence of just "surface cleaning". ie: one side of the blinds were dusty.

While we did enjoy our time here, I would probably not stay again. I've lived in the south by whole life, and spent many nights in the low country, so I know that "palmetto bugs" (aka cockroaches) are a constant threat, but this place's roach problem was pretty offputting.

I can't help but think that the apparent leaks (whether current or not) and lack of proper cleaning are contributing to this problem.

I really went back and forth between 2 and 3 stars, but I think if the owners re-evaluate their strategy for cleaning & pest control, they could correct the problems we ran into.

Owner's Response: We've noted your observations. Your information is very constructive and we are presently addressing these matters with our roofer and monthly pest control company. We regret any inconvenience you may have experienced as we have had many happy renters this summer and throughout the years. Thank you!

Great location with tons of activities!

  • 4 of 5

We have visited Kiawah Island several times and it never gets old. There are so many things to do and see. We used the bikes to go all over the island, watched the dolphins, enoyed the beach and pool, went crabbing and took part in some Nature Center activities. As if that wasn't enough we visited the Charleston, the local tea plantation and the shops and concert at Fresh Fields. The cottage we stayed at was clean and worked perfect for our family. The bikes and beach chairs were a nice bonus. Owner response was very good. We would rent here again.

Perfect for a big family

  • 5 of 5

Julie was so easy to work with and the value for a location close to the beach can't be beat. Very comfortable and clean, and owners were super responsive when questions or concerns came up during our stay. The screen porch added a lot of living space and was a peaceful place to spot deer, especially in the evenings. Right on the bike path to the beach and an easy ride to the pool/community pier. Nice, quiet community - thanks for a great week at the beach!

The house was clean and stocked with items needed for a vacation. Having bikes and chairs for the beach already there was great! Would definitely book again.
