A Gem Indeed

We stayed two weeks in this home and greatly enjoyed every minute we spent in it. So much that we felt we should write the review… our first review of anything, ever.

The location is ideal. It is in our favorite part of La Joya. Less than 10 a min. drive to the Cove and Village; and about half that to several beaches. You can also walk to the corner and go down concrete stairs to the ocean. Beyond La Joya, it’s a 10-30 minute drive anywhere in San Diego.

The house itself is absolutely beautiful. The owners did a fantastic job renovating it and spared no expense. High-end finish out, appliances and furniture, all in remarkably good taste.

The master bedroom is very spacious and the other two rooms are also generous and set up to be very versatile: queen beds in both or combinations office and TV/reading room. The “great room” is a fantastic open space in which to spend time with family: cook, eat, drink, and watch TV… it all flows seamlessly. The backyard is large, versatile and inviting for children to play. The gas grill works great in this space. But the two story terrace is absolutely genius. The lower level provides a great shaded lounge area and the upper level results in a terrific, unobstructed view of the ocean. Sunsets with wine, or early mornings surrounded by ocean air and seagulls. Nice.

Internet and cable are high speed and reliable. The “fun” equipment provided is a great bonus: bicycles, sand toys, racquets, balls, goal nets, beach chairs and umbrellas, etc. Inside, plenty of linens and the like.

Finally, the process and transaction was easy, smooth and pleasant. Marc, who manages the property, was very friendly and professional. He was also incredibly attentive and responsive to any questions or needs we had.

In summary, we highly recommend this property and the owners/manager. If you’re fortunate enough to stay in this house, please take care of as if it were your own. We did, not just because it is the right thing to do, but because we hope we can buy it one day ;-)

A Perfect Paradise

With several children and busy summer schedules, picking up and making La Jolla our home base for the summer seemed like a great idea, albeit slightly daunting. Bird Rock is our favorite spot and we have stayed there for several summers, but this trip set the bar higher than all of the others! As soon as we stepped into what my children started lovingly calling "The Chelsea House," we knew that we had found the perfect slice of Bird Rock to call home for the summer. From the moment you walk in the door you can tell that the owners have taken great care and given great thought to everything from the layout of the cabinetry to the linens in the bedrooms. We didn't have to think about anything! There is a fabulous TV lounge area complete with books for the summer reader, terrific bedrooms (complete with great closets), bathrooms coated in marble and high-end finishes and a kitchen that was dreamy to cook in. Being able to do our laundry within the house was a huge bonus as well and having the large tubs in both the washer and dryer was so nice when faced with large loads of laundry! The outside deck was the perfect place to watch the sunset, read during the misty mornings, watch the fireworks in the Bay, or just get lost in water's beauty. Easy check in and check out, along with a great list of local activities to take advantage of made planning our days fun and easy. This home is tucked behind a darling white fence covered in high shrubs to keep the front yard private while the automatic gate that leads to the garage means you don't have to worry about finding parking. Summer sand toys and lounging chairs that were provided made beach outings fun. Walking to La Jolla Boulevard's shops or to Pacific Beach is easy and having this location as home for any length of time is nothing short of a perfect paradise for even the most particular of travelers. We highly recommend this home away from home whether you have a long weekend or a few weeks to travel. Enjoy the amenities of this beautiful home while you enjoy the lovely little town of Bird Rock and you'll never want to stay anywhere else! We'll be back again and again!!

Bird Rock is a seaside neighborhood within the larger community of La Jolla in San Diego, California. It lies on the Pacific Ocean at the southernmost end of La Jolla, just north of Pacific Beach.
