my husband and i stayed here for my 30th birthday weekend celebration in october. we have been to TC several times before, but it was our first experience renting from an owner like this. it was exactly as it looked in the pictures-clean, comfortable, cozy! we loved waking up in the morning and brewing a pot of coffee and sitting at the lovely kitchen table. the grounds are absolutely beautiful and we took advantage of our surroundings by doing some shopping, wine tasting (do not miss out on cinnamon girl cider from LFC), and a historic tour of the old buildings on the property. one of the evenings we ate dinner at stella, another must when you are in TC. it was so great to be only an elevator ride away from our destination! the bed was extremely comfortable-but do be aware that it is a bit of a climb to get up there. and just an extra bonus-the bath products were so luxurious. i wanted some of that shower wash to take home! we will definitely keep this place in mind for future visits. we felt spoiled...so much for a very reasonable price!

My wife and I have been visiting Traverse City in the summer for several years now. In the past we have booked well in advance at a local hotel which was adequate to meet our needs. However, this year we found this opportunity at our favorite Traverse City destination, The Grand Traverse Commons [formerly the Michigan State Hospital built in 1885]. We were delighted with the opportunity to stay there, and upon visiting we were not disappointed! This little one room efficiency, loft style condo has it all -- charm, comfort, location, and history. The owners have not left out one detail in this unit, from the kitchen, to the living area, to the bath. The unit is all new with a great look and feel. The flat screen TV has all of one's favorite channels, and the WiFi allowed you to quietly use your laptop or tablet with ease. Although we didn't prepare any meals, the kitchen was fully stocked. Your bedroom is truly a loft, and one must climb the library style ladder to say goodnight. It wasn't a problem at all for us, and the bed was very comfortable. Yes, one must have some agility for it, and also not be impaired physically. We enjoyed having the quiet serenity of Grand Traverse Commons as our home base, and also liked being able to just go downstairs to the shops and restaurants in the Mercato. A meal at Trattoria Stella is a must [our favorite TC restaurant]! The Grand Traverse Commons is very close to downtown shopping also, and a good "home base hub" from which one can launch off on any day trip including the Mission or Leelanau peninsulas, Petoskey, and Empire. No, this isn't on the beach, but it doesn't need to be because it has it's own special draw and charm. The owner was very helpful, and easy to communicate with in the entire rental process. The photos online accurately depict the unit. If you are "in love" with the history of the Grand Traverse Commons, you can't go wrong with this condo! And, lastly, compared to what it costs to stay in a hotel, it is a great deal!

I grew up in Ann Arbor, MI and had fond memories of vacationing in Traverse City as a child. As I grew older and life took me away from Michigan, those memories remained vivid and were gnawing at me to come back and visit. So when my wife and I planned leave from Japan to visit the states, Traverse City seemed like an excellent option. Our experience started out great from the start. Marita was willing to work with us on the dates of our stay (Friday - Friday) vs. the standard Sat-Sat vacation rental. This was absolutely wonderful concerning our stringent military leave dates from Japan. After living in big city after big city, we were amazed to find how centrally located Suite 202 of the Grand Traverse Commons. 45 minutes to Sleeping Bear Dunes, 2 hours to Mackinaw Island, and literally minutes from anything you desire to do in Traverse City. The unit itself was absolutely wonderful. A small kitchen, supplied by the local meijer grocery store, kept us in for most meals and saved us tons of cash avoiding eating out. My wife was able to enjoy her morning coffee and I enjoyed the first glimmers of sunlight and my morning paper on the kindle. Wifi, cable internet, and a flat screen TV, kept us feeling like we were at home. As you have read, it is a loft, with an incredibly efficient use of the square footage. Ultra high ceilings, allow for the bed to be lofted 10-12 feet in the air, in a makeshift room above the kitchen. A ladder brings you to your wonderfully comfortable bed. It really was a neat experience and just seemed to add to the uniqueness of the unit. Turns out my Grandmother worked at the clinic that is now the Grand Traverse Commons... maybe she walked those halls decades ago. A comfy couch, breakfast table, wonderful bathroom and shower, and the location - central to great walks in the arboretum, trips to the bakery across the street, coffee shops, wine tasting, restaurants, and locality to gyms, shopping, and everything else made this a memorable trip. Thank you Marita. I highly recommend the unit.

We were searching for an affordable, unique experience for our first wedding anniversary in Traverse City. We found Suite 202 and began communicating with the owner about our stay. We found them to be extremely responsive, informative, and flexible. The booking experience was extremely simple, and in no time, we had our stay confirmed and began counting down to our vacation. As the date grew closer, we received communication from the owners on our arrival and the procedures for checking into the suite, which as very easy. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised by this charming studio with a wonderful view. The pictures don't do this place justice. Literally, no detail was spared in the design of this suite. Luxury finishes throughout, a great bathroom, plush bathrobes, a stocked kitchen, and a great location make this place the perfect stay for a busy couple looking to enjoy this fun town. The only problem we had was that we wanted to stay in the suite more than we had planned - it's that nice! The property is spotless, and I can't say enough about the cute kitchen and luxurious bathroom. There is not a hotel in Traverse City that comes close to the finishes, comfort, and experience at this suite. The only thing to note - the bed is certainly up a library ladder, so be prepared for a bit of tight fit and an adventurous climb. We loved it! Just be aware if you spend the evening enjoying the local wines in Traverse that you have to make it to bed up that ladder! :) But the couch is phenomenal as well! The owners of this property are simply lovely. We arrived to a wonderful bottle of local champagne and a sweet note congratulating us on our anniversary. After our stay, we traveled west to our own cottage for a week, and our deposit check for the suite was waiting on us when we arrived home, as promised, with a lovely note again from the owners. We travel to northern Michigan every summer. If we have it our way, we will start each of those trips with a weekend stay in Traverse City in Suite 202. Thank you for making our stay phenomenal - it is a trip we will never forget!

This condo is absolutely gorgeous and the owners should pride themselves on the wonderful attention to detail! Not only was it relaxing, but very private and a short walk or drive to all the great things in Traverse City. The level of cleanliness exceeded my high standards and the place is clearly well taken care of. All the appliances and furniture were top-notch. Having the lofted bed was actually quite fun! There was a nice closet with my compartments for organizing our belongings, and we actually began to feel like the condo was ours. Don't look anywhere else! Can't say enough good things about it.

We enjoyed a wonderful 3 days in Grand Traverse Commons in your lovely and well appointed condo. The history of the buildings and grounds was most fascinating and we enjoyed reading the information provided. We felt very comfortable and at home and enjoyed the views of the grounds from the living room windows. There was nothing lacking in amenities and comfort even to the plush robes in the closet! Loved the shops below and enjoyed strolling the grounds. Quick drive to town and waterfront. Would definitely recommend the Commons for an unusual and delightful getaway. Lots of great golf in the area which was our focus. So glad we found you! Would highly recommend to friends and family.

After my recent stay at this condo, I can’t say enough good things about it! The building and grounds it is located on are beautiful. The beautiful Traverse City bay is just a short drive down the road. The condo itself felt like it was our home. They have gone above in beyond in making sure everything is high quality, and would suit most anyone’s standards. We made most of our meals in because we enjoyed being in it so much. There are also balconies all over the building that are wonderful to enjoy. I would highly recommend this condo to any person/couple traveling to Traverse City! My only complaint is that I wish we could have stayed longer.

This studio condominium is truly a first-class place to stay. Far beyond any expectation for what I would normally expect a "rental" property to be, this studio is well equipped with top-end appliances and furnishings. The height of the ceiling and the large, front-lawn facing windows give this quaint apartment a real feel of roominess and comfort. The kitchen area is outfitted with the finest appliances. There is ample space to enjoy your morning coffee at the breakfast table, or relaxing in the living area -- taking pleasure in the morning light this condo is bathed in daily. When evening comes, the quiet ambiance of the entire property creates a relaxed, cozy environment to finish off your day. The bathroom is nothing short of spa-like, and the easy climb up the library ladder to the sleeping loft leads you to a charming space for a restful night's sleep. Beyond the apartment, the quick trip downstairs to the local coffee shop, deli-cafe, wine-tasting room, or classy restaurant makes this place a step above any other place I've ever stayed. Whether the summer months have you out and about in all that Traverse City has to offer or the winter months have you nestled in, this charming place is perfect for one or two guests looking for a cozy, stylish, and convenient place to stay while in the area.
