Not what we expected
While we were very pleased with our host Bob, this was not what we were expecting.
The pictures make the place look a lot bigger than it actually is. It is not an ideal place to stay for a family of four, maybe more suitable for two people.
There is a back shed with a bunk bed in it that worked for the kids, but the futon bed in the "main" studio barely made walking around inside an option. We felt very crammed, and uncomfortable. We were woken up by noises from the host's home each morning that shared a wall with the main studio. The description states that there is a kitchenette, but we barely did any cooking because there were almost no pots or pans or dishes to use. Everything was very outdated and not very clean.
The icing on the top of the cake was waking up to find out the locks securing our bikes had been cut and two of our bikes had been stolen off the back of our truck.
We left a day early, and gave up our last night. We couldn't endure any more.
Bob is a nice guy and easy to work with, but I think his place needs a little more attention to bring it up to a comfortable standard.
The property has over 60 Five Star reviews the old adage maybe true. You can not please everyone.
Great location. Awesome, fun place.
We had a great time. The location is great and the host is kind. The backyard has a wonderful patio perfect to enjoy coffee in the morning and to relax in the evening.
The Best Place to Stay in Old Town!
Bob's place in Old Town San Diego is the best! We had three adults and one dog and we all were comfortable and very happy. The studio is very cozy, with everything you need to make yourself at home. There are two sliding glass doors on the back side of the studio which provided a nice view onto the back yard area as well as allowing the fresh San Diego air to flow into the space.
The cabana was perfect as well! It almost felt like the best 'Summer Camp' cabin you could ever hope for. Comfortable bunk beds, cozy seating, skylight and ceiling fan, cable tv and dvd player with movies, games, dart board, beach towels and very cool and funky decor! The two doors into the cabana have really nice screens on them and we slept with the doors open every night and never had a problem with flying intruders like mosquitoes or moths.
The deck just outside the studio and cabana is great! Plenty of comfortable seating, a gas bbq, a heater and lovely lighting for after dark.
The rest of the back yard was fantastic! The landscaping is beautiful and tropical with a large variety of palms and such. The pool is clean and refreshing! There is also a large grassy yard space for pups to do their business. The whole back yard is securely enclosed and our pup loved running around freely to explore.
Overall Bob's place is great! I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thank you, Bob, for everything and for providing such a fantastic place to stay!
Zoo day trip
Very nice. Good to stay if visiting MCRD for graduation week. You can actually walk to Marine Base and all restaurants and package stores.
Great location and a generous host!
Arrived after dark, Bob met us in the driveway and showed us around, and left us alone. The studio was easy to find, clean, and had everything we needed and then some. The pool cabana was really cute and spacious. The deck is a lovely place for cocktails in the evening or coffee in the morning. Genuinely felt safe the entire stay. We would certainly try to book it again next time we go to San Diego!
We really enjoyed staying in your studio! We walked to Old Town! Our granddaughter loved the pool and sleeping in the Cabana!
The property is 1/2 block south of THE OLD TOWN COURTYARD MARRIOTT HOTEL. 3 BLOCKS OFF OF THE OLD TOWN FREEWAY ON HIGHWAY 5. ABOUT 10 MINUTES FROM THE AIRPORT.
