Guestbook comments from the owner

The views from this condo are superb! It was like having our own private mountain vista with gorgeous greenery, majestic mountains and stunning waterfalls after the rains... and a few chickens. ;) Jim has done a superb job in anticipating our needs with tons of little extras. The gift basket was a VERY welcome touch and helped while we oriented ourselves. Little things like dishwasher and laundry detergent, beach chairs, towels & mats, lots of linens, games and video library, and a very useful little library helped. The information folder/binder was immensely helpful and something we'd not seen before. The bedroom setup was excellent. We could sit in bed and watch the flatscreen TV or just enjoy the view. Beautiful lanai that we didn't use nearly enough! In-room laundry and a second bathroom came in very handy. Beautiful well thought out decor with just enough kitch to bring charm and that lived in/loved feeling while being remarkably clean and uncluttered. We had almost no daytime rain until the next to last day when a tropical storm hit the North Shore dropping 17 inches of rain in Hanalei in 24 hours. Thank God we were on the Princeville side of the Hanalei bridge which got washed out. All of this in the middle of a beautiful resort with tons of amenities and a incredible private beach walk at remarkable value for the

Wonderful Experience

  • 4 of 5

Hanalei Bay and the Princeville area is amazing! We are very grateful that we came across Hanalei Bay Resorts as an option to stay. The grounds are very well kept and beautiful, the condo which was a studio unit was clean and perfect for what we needed, and the location was very convienent to run into town, hang on the beach or explore the island.

Well decorated and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

The condo was very comfortable and well decorated. The memory foam bed provided a great night sleep. The lanai and the view were gorgeous. Kitchen was fully stocked. Wifi directions were confusing. We could only connect to the hotels wifi, not room wifi. This was fine, although speeds were slow. The A/c was on its way out, so it was a little warm, but since we're from a warm climate the temp didn't bother us much. We stayed 7 nights. Since it's a condo rental, we didn't have a cleaning. By day 7, the condo was as dirty (sandy) as I could really take it, so I'd recommend trying to schedule a cleaning if you stay longer.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Thank you for your review for the unit 1557 at the Hanalei Bay Resort. We are happy to hear you found the condo comfortable and well stocked. The views of the mountains are amazing! The WiFi is a resort amenity and not specific to the unit or the owner of this unit. There is not a separate WiFi for the unit itself. The resort WiFi works in all the units of the resort. Therefore when there is a problem with the WiFi, it should be directed to the resort. We are happy to say, a brand new air conditioner was installed yesterday so there will be no further problems with cooling. If you do let us know ahead of time we can schedule a midstay clean during your stay for a fee. However the unit is supplied with a vacuum, broom and other cleaning products to use. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope you might be able to come again and stay.

Excellent Spot!

My husband and I loved this location for our babymoon! The condo is updated, bed is extremely comfortable and the view is AMAZING from the balcony. The resort has all of the needed amenities - pool, beach access, towels, bar. I highly recommend this location and would definitely stay again! Thank you for the great hospitality!

Excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

Excellent place to stay, recently renovated unit, beautiful view. Access to resort amenities, pool and beach. We had a great experience without any issues and have no complaints. As others have mentioned, since you are renting privately there's no housekeeping coming by daily as they would in a hotel. Also the Bali Hai restaurant is still closed due to some issue regarding staff parking I believe, so doesn't sound like there's a known date of reopening. That said, this really wasn't an issue for us because we drove around to nearby places to eat in princeville and also other places on the island. Also, they have a swim up bar in the pool area as well as the Happy Talk Lounge which is a more casual restaurant but with good views and live music. So these were really not a big deal in our opinion (and that's coming from someone who is very picky!!)

Good for a short stay

  • 4 of 5

Condo 1557 was quaint and in nice condition. Not to mention the view was amazing! We had a gorgeous view of the mountains. The lanai has a small table and two chairs - perfect for breakfast in the morning. The bed was a type of foam mattress. As a spoiled tempur-pedic mattress owner, I found this foam mattress not as comfortable. The kitchen area is nice with a induction cook top, toaster oven, microwave, mini fridge and sink. We only made breakfast (eggs and toast) as we were explored the north shore during our stay. Not that we watched a lot of TV, but we thought the location of the TV (above the sliding glass doors) was a bit off. You could not relax on the couch and watch TV at the same time. The bathroom was big! Plenty of room for two people to get ready for the day. The condo also included beach chairs, which we seriously enjoyed! It was a nice convenience. There were many other amenities and features in the condo that we did not use. The nearest ice machine is a nice walk 1/2 way across the resort.

We only have two minor complaints. First, the air conditioning unit did not keep the room chilled. We would turn it on after dinner (around 6-7pm) and the room would not chill down until the morning - even using the ceiling fan. This made for a warm and sticky night. Unfortunately, there isn't an opportunity to have a cross breeze as the only two doors/windows is the front door and the sliding glass door...and we were not going to sleep with the front door open.

Second, the bar/grill at the Hanalei Bay Resort is open for limited hours. We tried to book a reservation and they stated they were full. However, when we walked by several times, there was an abundance of open tables and seating. My guess is limited staff? The other restaurant on site appears to be closed indefinitely. We were not told of this until a week before our vacation! The Resort website stated it would reopen in 2017.

When they say check-in is at 3pm, they mean it! Our room was ready an hour before, but we could not check-in early. So we hung out in the lobby as the Happy Talk bar & lounge wasn't open until 3pm. We stayed for two nights in February 2017. Given we like to try different places, if we return to Hanalei Bay area, we probably won't stay at this resort again.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Thanks you so much for taking the time to respond to the request for a review for the unit 1557 at the Hanalei Bay Resort. The unit is in good condition as it has very recently been remodeled with a new bathroom and kitchenette as well as recent new flooring and furniture. The bed of course cannot accommodate everyones desires as it is such an individual taste. We however usually do not have complaints about the bed. The unit does have lots of great features and it is always nice to have some beach equipment which is an extra bonus. We wish you would have called us about the air conditioner during your stay as we could have looked into it for you as we have not had any complaints about it. We do respond to our guests needs and like any property things from time to time need attention. The lounge/bar on the property are privately owned so therefore we do not have any control over the hours but we do have lots of good feedback from other guests. The restaurant has been closed for many many years and was due to open sometime in the 2017 which might get delayed further. However the websites all state that the restuarant is not open as of yet so that when booking you are array of it. Thanks again for your review.

Magical honeymoon Spot

  • 5 of 5

We had the most incredible stay here. My husband and I could not be more pleased with our decision to stay here. Ideal location on the north shore. Just a quick drive to multiple beaches, quaint town of Hanalei, hiking on the Napali. Luxury of getting to make our breakfasts in the condo and eat on the balcony over looking a view that resembles Jarassic Park. The pool area, Happy Talk Lounge and beach (shared with St. Regis) were very convenient on days we weren't exploring. Must pour yourself a drink and go watch the sunset at the fire pit lounge chairs by the tennis courts. Plenty of delicious dining ( Makena Terrace, Bar Acuda, The Dophin) and fun eating/bar spots ( Tahiti Nui, wishing well, St. Regis bar). Fun ideas we enjoyed- driving up the coast to the end of the road, lighthouse, queens bath, farmers market, hiking to the waterfall on Napali trail, gardens by Tunnels beach, massages at Hanalei Day Spa, pool is great for lounging. Rent a car, worth every penny. Again, it was incredible and we can not wait to return to the resort!!
