About Chris Butler
We have been vacationing on the Big Island since 2003. Hawaii is a magical place for us and we hope to live there one day. we enjoy sharing our amazing home with others and hope you can appreciate it as much as we do
Chris Butler purchased this House in 2008
Why Chris Butler chose Keaau
Our home is located on a bluff about 30 ft. above sea level. It is open and inviting. There are spectacular views of the ocean, waves crashing, sunrise, moonrise, and whales in season, great breezes, fresh scents. It is in a secluded spot with no thru traffic. The sounds are soothing, refreshing, and the place is just ,I will say again, magical. We fell in love with the views.
What makes this House unique
We are close to unique beaches, tide pools, and the hot pond. The farmer's market is every Sunday just a few miles away. 35 minutes from the Airport in Hilo, shopping ,if you choose, great places to eat, local golf courses, waterfalls, botanical gardens, the zoo, the Macadamia Nut Farm, great coffee.. Volcano National Park is a must see. ..or just do nothing

Right on the ocean! The sunrises were stunning. On a clear day we could see Mauna Kea. Beautiful blue ocean out past the pool and hottub. Great place for quiet time and enjoying natural beauty!
Gorgeous oceanfront setting with the sounds of birds, frogs, and occasional waves. Killer views.
The house was comfortable with killer views from all rooms..large picture windows in living room that look out on the pool and ocean. The house is surrounded by coconut palms and natural vegetation. Comfortable beds, linens, adequate kitchen supplies. The house looks weathered on the outside and it is rustic inside but the location and view are outstanding. I would recommend this property.
The house needs to be updated, lots of room in the house for guest.
The views are very nice, overall we had a good time.
Gorgeous view but moldy and needs better upkeep!
We were 6 people from New York area staying at the property in mid-December.
There is no doubt that the location and the view of the property is bar none - it is a real ocean front with a fantastic 180 degree view of Sunset and Sunrise both.
But the condition of the house is not desirable which is a pity since the architecture of the house is great and it has a lot of details in the structure but it has not been taken care of or up-kept.
The ceilings of the kitchen and living room is covered by mold, the door handles all over the house are rusty, the window and door frames are rotted, no dishwasher, no washing machine or dryer, old and unusable pots and pans...are just some of the issues with the house which could be resolved with a little more TLC.
I gave it two stars just because of the location and the view!
I appreciate the review from Sherry.
Our home is directly on the ocean and constantly bombarded with salt spray... locks and doorknobs rust in a year. We are in a remote and safe location... I would personally prefer to do without them. There is no mold but paint discolors quickly. Our home is clean and totally functional. We can always do better. There is a wide assortment of pots and pans and cutlery... some have been more abused.... we can certainly be more critical in tossing the ones that are no longer pretty. Depending on where one is from changes the perspective. Those coming from large cities tend to focus on the functionality of locks and windows and not the grounds and view. Our location is remote, safe and open. One does not go there to lock inside but rather to enjoy the view as much as possible. We have no plans for a dishwasher and provide cleaning service if desired. We do provide warm ocean breezes, fresh rainwater, waves crashing, whales on occasion, amazing sunrises, a clean, open, and spacious home with one of the best views on the planet (...there will always be something rusting) and coconuts for the taking ...it is not for everyone.
The location and views are fabulous!
The house has windows with fabulous wrap around views. I highly recommend it for anyone who is not too fussy about everything looking like a Four Seasons Hotel. The pool is to die for, and the hot tub is great if you want something a little warmer.
We were mesmerized watching the expanse of the ocean beyond the black lava rocks right on the beach.
The house is somewhat run down but functional.
Stacey, the caretaker, is very helpful and lives on the property.
I recommend that the owners invest in more cutlery, a water pitcher, and a tea kettle.
The view is beyond words! Beautiful location. Property manager was very helpful in guiding us to local eateries and grocery stores. Clean. Nice that the bedrooms downstairs have their own private bathrooms!
