Relax by the river

Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 12/12/11

This cabin was a joy to visit. It is tucked in a beautiful valley with the river not far from the front porch. The downstairs bedroom and family room have windows facing the river and large porch, so in warm weather windows can be opened and you can hear the water sounds all day and night long. The cabin and grounds were well maintained and the kitchen had all we needed to make a big Thanksgiving meal. There was firewood right outside the side door, so we enjoyed fireside dinners each night. We usually go to the mountains to relax, fish, and let the dogs play, and the cabin is in a an area where walking the dogs was wonderful as there is a long private road going in either direction from the cabin's driveway with with wooded and mountain views along the way. We will be happy to rent this cabin again, and hope to bring a couple of friends next time.

We had a great visit and felt very welcome and noticed lots of little extras, like a first aid kit. Always nice to have an extra band aid when you travel with a little one. We enjoyed Burnsville and Spruce Pine. The river is just beautiful and we hope to return in warmer weather when we can enjoy it more. Great home, great setting and great value! Very clean too.

Perfect

Guest: Laurie (Lexington, KY)
Date of Stay: 10/13/11 Review Submitted: 10/18/11

We had an absolutely fantastic time at the cabin. My husband and I went for a long weekend for our 1st wedding anniversary and it was everything we could have hoped for. Immacuately clean, everything was just like the overview said. Just steps from the river, its secluded and private (yet close to grocery store, etc). We brought our dogs (German Rottweiler and Lab/Bloodhound/Boxer cross) and they both loved the woods and water.Plenty of room for the two of us and two large dogs. We hiked and kayaked the whole time we were there and enjoyed wonderful dinners and breakfasts each day (compliments of my chef like husband) and a roaring fire each night. Everything you could ever possibly need was provided (the hosts have truly thought of everything). Couldn't have asked for a better anniversary. Would reccomend to anyone!

Spectacular getaway with pooch and two young children

Guest: Stella and The Boys (Greensboro, North Carolina)

Owners provided a true haven for anyone seeking serenity, a private (but not remote) location, BEAUTY, the thrill of a few rapids by kayak, all the comforts of home but with a cool loft that overlooks the craftsman style main room. We also reveled in the covered back porch with charcoal grill and swing that allowed us to experience the river all the time. Kitchen was well stocked and had all amenities needed to create meals...cooked three meals a day and it was perfect. We plan to return annually because this cabin offered us REAL relaxation. There are terrific nearby attractions - i.e. Mt. Mitchell State Park hiking trails, but we just wanted to hang out at the cabin!

A Wonderful Getaway right on the South Toe River

Guest: Totsie and Winn_HAC12668 (Asheville, NC)
Date of Stay: 06/11/10 Review Submitted: 08/21/10

What a sweet place! The cabin is beautiful and the location right on the river is a unique treat. The cabin furnishings are ultra-clean and comfortable. We live in Asheville, just about an hour away, but we felt like we had a long vacation after just two days. Our puppy had a ball running free and playing in the water. While we were sitting in the river three families of Canadian Geese and their babies came floating by. It was magical. Totsie Marine, Winn King and Jazz

WOW!! My boyfriend and I just spent 5 days at this beautiful and cozy cabin in the middle of winter and it was absolutely heavenly. The owners are so friendly and were happy to answer all of our questions. The cabin is elegantly appointed, very down to earth with a clean design and none of the kitchy-ness typical of mountain cabins. This was clearly a labor of love and it shows in every detail. If you have good fishing weighters you can kayak in the middle of the winter, which is what my boyfriend did every day while I relaxed by the fire. Asheville is a 45 min drive and there are some amazing restaurants (Table, Fig, Savoy) and a great Belgian beer bar, the Thirsty Monk. This is the perfect winter retreat, we look forward to our next visit!

My husband and I just returned from this mountain paradise retreat where the loudest noise was the constant rush of the South Toe River a few steps from the cabin door. Our accomodations were warm and comfortable, both the cabin and the exterior decor of beautiful North Carolina fall foliage. The water was too cool for tubing, but fishing and kayaking were perfect entertainment when not hiking or relaxing by an evening campfire at the river's edge. We have already begun to plan a spring visit! It was the perfect vacation get-away!

This is a wonderful and extremely private home with spectacular charm. We spent a week at the cabin and only on the last day did we see anyone else. The owners are very pleasant and did a great job with the home. Virtually everything you'll need is provided. The constant sound of cascading water over the rapids fills the house and is very calming. Take advantage of the tubes and kayaks and enjoy the water; it’s surprisingly warm. The better fishing is upstream about 100 yards. Also take the opportunity to drive up to Mount Mitchell (about an hour) for some great views and hiking. The area is very cool in the summer and I didn’t see a single mosquito; the temp stayed between 50 and 75 during mid-July which is surprising for NC. We brought two of our children (10 and 13) along with our Lab. They all had a great time and were plenty tired at the end of each day. I would encourage anyone looking to get away and do nothing but enjoy the relaxing tranquility of nature to visit this cabin. It’s more than just a cabin with a view; there are actually things to do at the house and the surrounding area as well.
