The lower level has a bathroom with a shower, a room with a two person whirlpool, a sauna, washer and dryer in one half of the level. The other half of the lower level is one big room with a TV, hide-a-bed and chairs in one end of the room.
In the other end of the room there is doubled bed in an area that can be closed off with a folding door. There is also roll-away on this level.

We have spent long weekends at this house about five years in a row, and then were unable to do so for about 7 years. We were all very happy to come back to it for a long weekend last weekend! The house more than accommodates our group, and offers the privacy that we love to be able to have nice bonfires at night and sit on the deck in the morning looking at Lake Superior while drinking our coffee. If you have a larger group, I would highly recommend this house as a perfect vacation spot. It is an older home, but it has great character and the price is very affordable!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

The place was over all nice and comfortable but it could use some upgrade in the kitchen. The refrigerator was smaller for the house of that size and kitchen was missing blender. I would stay here again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our small group of 5 couples from our church stayed over a weekend in February to ski at Lutsen ski resort. The house was clean and as described in the promos. The house is older but clean, the kitchen is remodeled, and the lower level sauna and hot tub are new and first class. The kitchen had more than enough plates and utensils for our large group, which is often not the case in rentals. Due to a sickness in our group and a heavy snow forecast--nothing the owner had control over, we left a day early. We did not expect a refund, but the owner insisted. Great Minnesota hospitality. We will definitely consider Cascade House in the future. Thanks for a great experience.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: I, Gene, was a teacher for 23 years. The last twenty years being a professor and coach at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. My wife, Laurene, worked as a part-time nurse during this period. In 1981 we changed careers by purchasing Cascade Lodge in Lutsen Minnesota and the Blue Water Cafe in Grand Marais. We sold the lodge in 2004 and the the cafe in 2005 and now live in Grand Marais. We have four grown children and 12 grandchildren. In 2007 I became paralyzed from my sternum down. This obviously has changed many things for us, but by God's grace we have been able to adjust quite well to our new circumstances. We are grateful for modern wheelchairs, vans with ramps, etc. We have hired a a lady to help us manage Cascade House.
Why the Owner Chose Lutsen:
We owned Cascade Lodge, which was located two miles from the Cascade House, and one day we saw the a sale sign in front of the house. The property included 17 acres of land and we knew it had great potential so we bought in 1994. We soon started remodeling the house and have been renting it out to guests since 1995. We have since sold the lodge, but we kept the house and are now renting the house privately. It has been a pleasure to hosts guests at the house.
