Map & Owner's Profile
House with a View of Lake Superior Adjacent to Park
Year Purchased: 1999
Why the Owner Chose Lutsen
We owned Cascade Lodge, which was located two miles from the Cascade House, and one day we saw the a sale sign in front of the house. The property included 17 acres of land and we knew it had great potential so we bought in 1994. We soon started remodeling the house and have been renting it out to guests since 1995. We have since sold the lodge, but we kept the house and are now renting the house privately. It has been a pleasure to hosts guests at the house.
The Unique Benefits at this House
The house property is surrounded on three sides by Cascade River State Park and is about 1 1/2 miles from the scenic river with it beautiful water falls. From the house you have a nice view of Lake Superior. The house is located approximately eight west of the small town of Grand Marais with all its attractions and amenities. Eleven miles east is the township called Lutsen, where the Lutsen Mt. Ski Area and Superior National Golf Course are located. Some of the sporting activities that are available in the area are: tennis, hiking, bicycling, golfing, fishing in Lake Superior or in many inland lakes, canoeing, kayaking, cross country skiing, alpine skiing and snowmobiling. However, the main attractions of the area are Lake Superior, inland Lakes, the Superior National Forest. the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness, the rivers and water falls.
Harbor, Tennis Courts, North House Folk School, Restaurants, Museum, Playhouse.
Owner's Map of Lutsen
I, Gene, was a teacher for 23 years. The last twenty years being a professor and coach at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. My wife, Laurene, worked as a part-time nurse during this period. In 1981 we changed careers by purchasing Cascade Lodge in Lutsen Minnesota and the Blue Water Cafe in Grand Marais. We sold the lodge in 2004 and the the cafe in 2005 and now live in Grand Marais. We have four grown children and 12 grandchildren. In 2007 I became paralyzed from my sternum down. This obviously has changed many things for us, but by God's grace we have been able to adjust quite well to our new circumstances. We are grateful for modern wheelchairs, vans with ramps, etc. We have hired a young couple to help us manage Cascade House.
