Spooner cabin description
Our 'Cabin on Lipsie' is a one-of-a-kind vacation retreat where life-long memories of the Northwoods are magically created year round.
Designed by noted Minneapolis architects TEA2, this modern cabin built in 2004 is breezily set on two and a half acres of mature forest from a 1930's resort, and looks over the shorefront of beautiful Lake Lipsett, a Class One lake with a reputation as one of the best 'all-around' lakes in the area for it's fishing, boating and swimming, and located just 11 miles Northwest of Spooner, Wisconsin.
This year-round, single-level cabin sleeps 8 in beds and up to 10 people when the sleeping area is expanded to the gorgeous sun room porch that doubles as a 4th bedroom.
Our cabin experience begins with a great room that greets visitors with sweeping lake views and serves as a perfect gathering point for family, friends and guests. Flanked by a natural stone fireplace, three walls of windows and bench seating, an oversized rustic dining table, and open to a modern kitchen with granite island and bar stools, you'll have little reason to leave this fantastic space.
Taking in the full glory of the Northwoods is as simple as stepping outside onto our flagstone patio, perched in just the right spot to take in gentle breezes and enjoy spectacular sunsets across Lipsie lake.
A stroll up the hallway from the kitchen immediately leads to a full bathroom and two sleeping bedrooms, one with 4 extra-long twin beds and the other with 2 standard twin beds where your children or adult guests can escape the business of the day and enjoy a comfortable cabin slumber at night.
The second full bathroom is located at the end of the hallway and can be shared to the house, or closed for privacy to the master bedroom suite.
The master bedroom is more secluded from the busy parts of the cabin, and takes in beautiful lake views on one side, and cabin window breezes on the other. Depending on your mood, you can sleep with windows open and enjoy the lake sounds and scents.
The hallway also leads to a storage basement where larger lake toys and our full-size washer and dryer can be found.
Back towards the kitchen and great room, the cabin opens to a fantastic year-round sun room porch where the first coffee of the morning can be enjoyed, a late-night movie can be watched, or extra guests can sleep on a fold-down futon couch.
Outdoors you'll find a fireplace on our patio and gradual steps out to a great dock just feet from the cabin. Shallow, sandy water greets those who want to swim or wade and you can walk for quite a ways on our sandbar.
Two kayaks and a rowboat are included for use, and ample space exists to dock a boat if you have your own or chose to rent one from the Main Store in Webb Lake.
In the evenings you'll enjoy grilling out on the patio, cooking smores on the outdoor fireplace, telling stories and visiting with friends until the loons lull you to sleep.
This is cabin R&R at its finest. Fishing, sailing, boating, swimming, hiking, stargazing, relaxing, and getting to know our loons and eagles on a first-name basis are just the beginning of the memories you'll create here.

An enjoyable retreat
An enjoyable retreat
Beautiful cabin. Great location. Not too far from the cities. The lake was a little too shallow for my taste but the water was still gorgeous. We had everything we needed. We enjoyed shopping in Hayward, and wine tasting in Shell Lake. Dad was able to fish a little and I finished the book I was wanting to read. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Thanks again!

Owner response: The cabin is a great place to read. I am so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay!
My family and I stayed at the Metcalf cabin this past week and what a great experience! We LOVED the cabin! It was even more beautiful than the pictures online! The cabin is very well laid out and was immaculate. I also appreciated that they had lots of kid stuff including a high chair that we could use. We grilled out, went kayaking, played fun board games, enjoyed the wonderful breeze on the porch. The icing on the cake was how kind and accommodating Kathy was. Thanks Kathy! We highly recommend this cabin!

Great family getaway!
Great family getaway!
The cabin was fantastic! It was so comfortable for our family of 2 adults and 5 children. The cabin was surrounded with windows, enhancing the beautiful lake view. The cabin was extremely clean and had all the conveniences of home. We spoke with Kathy, the owner, a number of times. She was always available and extremely helpful. We would highly recommend this cabin. We had a great time jet-skiing, tubing, boating and kayaking on Lipsie Lake. We love the Spooner-Hayward area. Thank you so much for a wonderful, memorable family vacation!

Dream Family Vacation - Everything we needed!
Dream Family Vacation - Everything we needed!
Our week at this cabin was peaceful, fun and created memories for a lifetime. Not only was the cabin beautiful, the location breath-taking and both provided the backdrop for 3 generations of Reedy's to swim, fish, laugh and love! We only left to replenish groceries. We enjoyed daily: swims in the lake, fishing, loon listening and viewing, eagle flyovers, stories and s'mores around the firepit, walks, coffee on the pier. We took advantage of the Kayaks that were available. The central "family" area of the cabin brought everyone together to eat, read and play cards, games and tell stories. You could be together or retreat to a quiet corner at any time. Clean and safe -- we loved our week on Lake Lipsett! Owner was responsive and helpful; the listing is accurate. I would highly recommend this property.

What a great week!!
What a great week!!
We rented this cabin on Lipsett as our first experience with VRBO. What a great time was had!!! The pictures of the cabin and surroundings do not do this location the justice it deserves. The cabin is a dream with everything that we needed to have a relaxing time with my family of four and another couple with their daughter. Close enough to Spooner for trips for food or supplies but far enough out for that "northwoods" feel. Fished the lake and couple many solid largemouth bass and crappie caught. Eagles and loons were always active. Everything was as described in the listing. Thank you Kathy and Steve for a wonderful time at your cabin.

Best Cabin Ever!
Best Cabin Ever!
We loved staying at this gorgeous lake cabin. The setting is magical; very wooded, quiet, and peaceful. We especially enjoyed the wall of windows overlooking the lake. Because of the slight elevation, the view was incredible!! The furnishings were top notch and the place was very clean when we arrived. One big bonus was that the lake was quite shallow well past the dock so the kids were very safe when swimming. We would highly recommend this cabin and we can't wait to visit again!

About the owner: Steve and Kathy built their dream cabin in 2004. Originally from Illinois, Steve grew up vacationing on 'Lipsie' (as it is called by the locals) every August. Many of his best childhood memories include summer days spent fishing, swimming, boating, and searching for the illusive 'Sasquatch' in the woods. Stargazing with the reward of hot cocoa afterward was also a favorite pastime. Since building their retreat, Steve and Kathy have passed the love of 'time at the cabin' on to their four children and numerous family and friends, as well. As you will see when you arrive, there are many special touches sharing family memories.
Why the Owner Chose Spooner:
The Cabin on Lipsie is situated on one of the best spots on one of the best lakes in the area. Lipsie Lake is at once not so big you'll get lost in boat traffic, and not so small that you compromise the pleasures of water sports and recreation. The spot is located on the site of an old resort known as Lipsie Pines Resort built in the 1930's and virtually undisturbed for decades after it closed to vacationers in the 1960's until the property was eventually sold for private lots in 2000. With 2+ acre lots, the modern Lipsie Pines area has beautiful mature trees, classic cabins and homes, eagles nests and trails, and is well off the main highway to worry about road noise. From this central location in the Northwoods, you can easily enjoy day trips to surrounding lakes, rivers, trails, as well as the charming towns of Spooner (11 miles SW), Siren (30 miles West) and Hayward (37 miles NW). For slightly longer day excursions, you can reach Superior/Duluth and the beautiful Apostle Islands in about 80 miles. And of course, the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul are just a two-hour drive away.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
