Most Disappointing Experience

My wife and I and our 2 children aged 7 & 9 rented this cottage from Saturday to Saturday the first week of July 2011. We left on Sunday after one night and upgraded to a nicer facility in the area. We were looking forward to a wonderful vacation in Maine, but were disappointed with what we found. When we opened the door we were greeted with a musty smelling cottage that is showing its age and what looked like mouse droppings greeted us on the counter. What really got us was what we thought was a mouse nest in the ceiling that totally disturbed my wife and kids and forced us to find an alternative location as we were unable to use the upstairs bedroom on account of the noise emanating from the nest continuously. By noise I mean an incredible amount of squeaking and scratching. Needless to say we didn't get a chance to enjoy Maine Lobster at the King's Kastle. The owner was gracious enough to give us back our damage deposit, but saw fit to keep the rest of the rent. To sum it up the response we got from the owner was that his beef was that we left without affording him the chance to fix the problem, our beef was that we shouldn't have had to deal with this issue as it should have been dealt with by whomever the caretaker was prior to our arrival as there was absolutely no way the noise could have been overlooked. Apart from our experience this is a beautiful area and I would recommend visiting this part of Maine.

Bob and I wish to convey our sincerest thanks for a wonderful four weeks stay at your cottage. The cottage with its beautiful sitting on the lake complete with loons and ducks and perfect weather could not have been more enjoyable. We hope to come back next year. Thanks again

Dear Mr. King, My whole family would like to tell you that we had a wonderful time at your beautiful residence at Salmon Lake. We had great weather, great fishing (my four year old grandson caught a 5-7 lb large mouth bass off the dock, just as you said he would) and enjoyed the comfort of your cottage. We enjoyed seeing ducks, loons, osprey, and bald eagles. The dock, swimming area, and yard were also great. Thank you for making this available to us all. Mike and Sue Swan
