About Susan Reider
Rob and Susan found their forever home in Camden in 2014, after searching for the perfect property for several years. Now retired, they owned a small consulting firm in Houston, Texas that helped international oil and gas companies develop sustainable community investments near their operations all over the world. They are avid art collectors and some of their folk art collection, maps and photography is displayed in the carriage house, along with some of their antique furniture. Susan is also a horse person, and this theme comes across in some of the art as well.

Why Susan Reider chose Camden
This property is in-town living at its finest. About one-half acre in size, the property provides ample room to garden, relax, and watch the grandchildren play! While passing through Camden some years ago, Rob and Susan were both immediately struck by the beauty of the area and the friendliness of the community. They began to vacation in Camden, and quickly determined that it was their ideal retirement destination. Camden is unique in that it is a very small town, but has 12-month recreational activities and also an active intellectual community, demonstrated by the annual Camden Conference, the Camden International Film Festival, a very active Philosophical Society, and 97% community library membership! Casual conversations with strangers often lead to fascinating conversations about current events, ideas or nature.
What makes this Apartment unique
Visitors will find the carriage house to be very quiet and private, but so close to everything Camden has to offer. It's also furnished with interesting art, carpets and furniture so that those with similar tastes will be motivated to consult the collection of art books on the shelf to learn more! We've also tried to supply the kitchen with everything needed by guests ranging from a gourmet cook to someone who merely wants a coffeemaker.

My husband and I spent two wonderful weeks here. We found the place to be immaculate and equipped with everything one could ask for. The unit is beautifully furnished and decorated. The kitchen is so well equipped that we were able to enjoy many meals here. We both found the bed to be very comfortable and slept really well after days of hiking and exploring the area. When we arrived, we were greeted with flowers and a welcoming gift. The owners, Susan and Rob, could not have been more genuinely friendly and helpful (with suggestions, maps, guide books). I would love to come back again and very highly recommend it. What a treat!!! Thanks Susan and Rob.
Carol and Gary were the perfect guests! We really enjoyed their enthusiasm and energy (walking every day even in the rain!) and they left the apartment as clean as they found it. We hope they visit again.
Peace and Quiet
What a delightful week we spent in the second floor of the carriage house in Camden! It is the building to the right in the photo. The proprietors made us feel just like we were at home and everything was just wonderful... and quiet! Camden proved to be the perfect place to park for day trips all along the Maine coast.
Charming, private, clean and comfortable
The carriage house was spacious, charming and clean. Location walking distance to harbor, hiking trails, restaurants and shops. Driving to more coastal points and historic towns a snap. Loved the beauty and welcoming atmosphere of Maine!
Absolutely LOVED This Cute Carriage House
My husband and I had the opportunity to spend two months in this lovely carriage house and could not have had a better experience. We work remotely, so we were looking for a place in Camden that would work well as a launching point for weekend excursions and provide a nice environment for working during the week. This property met all our needs and then some.
When we arrived after a long road trip across the country, we were pleased to find that the apartment was even better than the pictures! The place is spotless, nicely updated, and furnished with beautiful pieces. The living area has vaulted ceilings and ample natural lighting which makes it especially inviting. Given our extended stay, we ate many of our meals at home and found the kitchen well-equipped with plenty of pans, cutlery, and cookware. The bedroom is at the rear of the apartment and has an AC unit, black out shade, and comfortable bed, which made our nights in Camden some of the most restful we’ve had in years. There is also an in-unit washer and dryer off the mudroom downstairs, which made doing our laundry a breeze. As a bonus, the backyard behind the carriage house is reserved for guests and has a grill and nice picnic table for dining al fresco. The property’s location is ideal. Just a short 5-minute walk from the downtown area and a stone’s throw from Camden Hills State Park, this apartment offers the convenience of proximity to everything, but is far enough removed to provide a quiet retreat. In short, the property is incredible, and we can’t wait to go back!
Owners Rob and Susan are some of the kindest and most gracious hosts we’ve ever had. They had fresh flowers ready to greet us upon arrival and attended to every detail to ensure we had a wonderful stay. We even had the pleasure of spending time with them and left feeling like we were old friends.
We’ve spent several months in Camden before, and can say without doubt that this is one of the best properties you’ll find in the area. Book it now before someone else does!
All guests are different, but some are truly special. Sarah Kate and Preston are delightful people in every way and we thoroughly enjoyed their presence on our property. They were polite and discreet; and we knew that they would be respectful of our space and take good care of the apartment during their extended stay. In fact, when we entered the apartment after their two-month stay it looked perfect -- as if no one had been there!
We also enjoyed spending time with them, which is not something we do with all of our guests. We found that, even with a significant age difference, we shared quite a bit in common with them and they blended seamlessly into a family party on the patio!
We really hope they will return to Camden; they will be more than welcome to stay in our carriage house any time!

Charming and Welcoming!
The rental is PRISTINE...very well decorated with attention to detail! Bright and sunny too! Kitchen was well stocked and a pleasure to cook in (even on vacation!) Back picnic table is an added bonus to this carriage house. Private entrance and very quiet location. Owners were very accommodating. Walking distance to beautiful town of Camden which was ideal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return again!

Camden is the "jewel of MidCoast Maine." Famous for its beautiful harbor, it's the home of the Windjammers, large sailing vessels that berth here in the summer and in the U.S. Virgin Islands in the winter. It's also at the foot of Camden Hills State Park, which offers unique views of the coast from the highest elevations in Maine, other than Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, visible on clear days across the bay. From Camden easy day trips include: the ferry from Port Clyde to Monhegan Island, as well as other ferries to Islesboro, Northhaven and Vinalhaven Islands; Acadia National Park; the Olsen House, made famous by Andrew Wyeth; the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland; the Common Ground Fair; the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine; and quaint lobstering villages like Stonington, Winter Harbor, Port Clyde, Friendship and Tenants Harbor. Inland activities include fresh water fishing, kayaking and canoeing, hiking and antiquing.
