Our lake home is a quaint cottage directly on a small lake in Spencer, Massachusetts. The lake (Sugden Reservoir) is small but fully recreational. We have a small sandy beach that is perfect for children, and the older kids love the swim raft. Kayaking is one of our favorite activities - we have one double and two single kayaks, plus a kid's kayak.
The house is relaxed and comfortable – not fancy but nicely decorated and it has most amenities you would find at your own house. Downstairs the kitchen, dining room and living room are all one open space in an L shape. The kitchen and downstairs bath are newly remodeled. The dining table seats 8 to 10 people comfortably. The living room is spacious and includes a large flat screen TV with DVD player and VCR, and a remote control gas “wood stove”.
Upstairs the three bedrooms include a king bed, a queen bed and a bunk bed (twin over full). There is a full bath upstairs, and a huge game room with ping pong, foosball, brand new full size air hockey table, dart board, stick hockey table, board games, TV with VCR, puzzles, toys and more – great for those rainy days, or when you need a break from the sun!
We just put in wireless high speed internet at the house, but you need to bring your own computer, and there is no phone service at the house, so you will also need to bring your cell phone. I have Verizon and my husband has Nextel, and the service signal (for those two providers at least) is excellent - full bar coverage.
There's always something to do here - in the house, on the lake or at nearby attractions such as Old Sturbridge Village or Moore State Park. It is a very rural area, but we are also very close to Worcester, where you will find an art museum, fine arts theatre, shopping and more. We are also only 20 miles from the Brimfield Antiques fair. We are 30 minutes from Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, and also 30 minutes from Davis' Farmland and MegaMaze. A snowmobile trail goes right by our house across the lake. It is a great place for a fun and relaxing getaway any time of the year!

Year Purchased: 2004
I am a former teacher turned stay-at-home mom. My kids are ages 12 and 9, and my husband is a farmer. We have had many enjoyable times at our lake house and we're very excited to share it with other families.
Why the Owner Chose Spencer
We bought our lake house because it is only 20 miles from our permanent home, but far enough away so that we could "get away" from the farm.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
As soon as you arrive at the house, it is like your body immediately goes into relaxation mode. Your worries fade into the background, and the family gets to just be together without all the stress of normal everyday life. Our favorite things about the house are the lake for swimming, kayaking and fishing, the deck for barbeques and the game room for those inevitable rainy days. We also have a very large collection of books to read while you're here - get ready to relax!

I have stayed in 3 of the vacation rentals in this area that are advertised on this site and this is heads and tails above the rest. This house is so well stocked you will want for nothing. The house is located on a quiet street and is a peaceful retreat for your getaway no matter what time of year. This house is fully stocked. And I mean fully stocked if you forgot anything at home you can be sure they have it for you. Huge game room on the second floor if you happen to have a rainy day. We just loved it here. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us we hope to return for some R&R soon. We are going to need it after getting our new house renovated. Thanks again, The Charrons

We had a wonderful time in our weekend stay at the lake house. I threw a bridal shower there, and spent the rest of the weekend with the bride and a few friends, swimming, kayaking, and enjoying the expansive game room. It was a great house for a small gathering. Every amenity you could think of is there. I packed my own salt and pepper, pans, knife, etc., and was pleasantly surprised to find that the kitchen was extremely well-equipped. It is also easily the most nicely maintained vacation rental I've ever stayed at. The pictures do not do justice to the property. The lake itself is beautiful and fairly private. Thanks for an awesome weekend!

What an absolute gem-- Our family enjoyed a wonderful week in this rental and everyone is looking forward to a return visit! The lake is peaceful & beautiful... a delightful place to kayak & fish or simply spend the day floating on a tube reading a book. The house has all the comforts of home (and then some!)... the care & pride of the owners is apparent both inside & out, making for a very enjoyable vacation for all members of the family, young & old. Many thanks for making this property available to renters...we'll definitely be back soon!

We stayed in this wonderful house during the summer and it was perfect, especially for families. There is a game room for the kids, not to mention a lake and dock. Good canoeing, country walks, very comfortable house. Often rentals are not as nice as your own home but this one is well taken care of and well equipped (the beds are good quality for instance). The owners have since remodeled the kitchen and installed a second bathroom. The largest bedroom looks out onto the lake. You can't go wrong and you will definitely enjoy yourself.
