One is overwhelmed by the view from the property. Day and Night it is the major attraction. It was relatively cool when we stayed so the lanai wasn't used all that much. But we used everything else. The highlight was meeting Albert and getting a chance to talk with him, learn about living in Hawaii, coffee growing, and their experiences on the Big Island. The house is a bargain for staying in Holualoa. Entertainment system is complex to work at first and rather temperamental at times. Refrigerator is small and seems out of place compared to the rest of the appointments but satisfactory for our stay. It was great to have beach-going equipment which we used extensively. The main house has a smaller apartment below and gave us a chance to meet fellow travelers and compare experiences and recommendations. Walk from garage to house is not a killer but with luggage or bags of groceries it does provide exercise. Quiet and peaceful with majestic Mango tree and million dollar views. One of the best values in Hawaii that we've found.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The view from the wrap-around lanai is gorgeous both day and night. Al's place is spacious, well-appointed, very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and a pleasure to cook in. We enjoyed the picnic basket/bag and cooler as well as the beach items (chairs, umbrella, reef shoes etc). The laundry machine and dryer were a great bonus too. We were given a small welcome gift that included delicious chocolates from the Big Island which was a lovely touch and beside the coffee grinder was a fresh bag of coffee from Al's farm. We had many giggles each morning when we'd spot a crew of (about 20!) turkeys gobbling up or down the hill among the coffee trees. The few chickens that we saw were lovely, especially the rooster. We didn't need to connect with Al except to request an early check-in (which he obliged), and he was very responsive. We highly recommend Al's place.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

I had great communication with the owner of this property before our arrival, including good directions, a "to do" list which was spot on, and good response time to inquiries. The location was convenient to the airport, distant from the tourist hubbub, cool in the evening, and it had peaceful/beautiful surroundings and views. The home was well equipped with kitchen tools, laundry access, adequate bedding supplies and comfortable beds. The dishwasher has a trick for starting. It would have been nice to have explanatory directions, which I'm sure the kind owner will provide for the next guest. The driveway is steep. This was not a problem for us, but would be for individuals with physical disabilities. The grill was not functional without a gas tank, so it should be taken off the site description, but the stove and oven worked just fine for our needs. The chicken on the dryer is quiet and startling if you don't expect her unflinching gaze as you do your laundry, but she became our friend in no time. All in all, this felt like a home away from home! Thank you, "Al" for sharing your beautiful home.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you Nancy for the kind words. I have added 2 items to the home instructions! The new Jenn Aire dishwasher is a bit tricky it turns out as it has changed a bit in the way it likes to work :^). The outdoor Jenn Air grill is on house gas so it needs no tank. However, there is a valve that turns the gas supply on and off on the left side. Since grills can easily leak gas I like to leave the valve off when not in use. I have added instructions on both of these, thanks so much for the suggestion! What can I say about the chicken on the Dryer :^) .... Poor Brownie has gotten confused and thinks she is laying on eggs.

What a beautiful spot! The view of Kailua Bay is spectacular. The house is lovely and very well maintained. Very comfortable for two couples. Surrounded by coffee trees. When we were there the trees were in bloom and the fragrance was intoxicating. The air vibrated with the sounds of happy honey bees. There were wild turkeys, two gorgeous species of pheasant that look and sound like chickens. And the song of frogs at night was delightful. And easy 10-15 minute drive to great beaches. This is a quiet, romantic spot. The village of Holualoa is quaint and very friendly. Our only concern: the kitchen could really use some sharp knives!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for the tip, new knives on the way!

This house is even more beautiful in person than in the pictures. The deck overlooks steep coffee farms with Kona and the wide blue ocean below. Each morning we would wake up in the wonderfully comfortable bed to the noise of tropical birds, brew some of the home-grown coffee, and then enjoy our drinks out on the deck. One morning, we watched a humpback whale breach over and over -- what an amazing treat! The location is also stellar -- just far away enough from the touristy hustle and bustle of Kona, but central enough to easily access everything we wanted to see on the leeward coast (both to the north and south). Anyone visiting the big island should seriously consider staying here.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This property is unforgettable for all the right reasons. Clean, quiet, spacious, comfortable, and complete with every amenity required for extreme relaxation. Albert, the owner, was very helpful before, during, and after our stay. Four of us shared the accomodation with ease. We will definitely recommend Albert's farm to friends and relatives looking for a place to stay in Kona. Holuakona Garden Restaurant, a great place nearby for brunch or supper, is a short drive away. Looking forward to a return visit next winter.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: Albert and Linda Holt moved to the Big Island after deciding they needed something to do after working in Silicon Valley for the past 30 years. A Kona Coffee farm seemed to be just the ticket. Having had vacation rentals in Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas they were excited about being able to share the Kona Coffee farming experience, and the Big Island Hawaii experience with others, so they built a guest residence just for that purpose. Pictured here with the very first roasted and bagged coffee from our first year (2007) crop.
Why the Owner Chose Holualoa:
Being away from the resorts and tourist hustle and bustle, yet close enough to everything in order to be able to experience the true Hawaii and Aloha.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
Panoramic ocean views, 1400 feet above sea level where the air is clean and cool, wild turkeys and chickens, and the occasional pig wandering the property, night time nature sounds, calm no traffic lifestyle and plenty of property to stretch out in.
