Rustic among all modern neighbors

  • 4 of 5

Bathroom shower and toilet are chipped and in need of replacement corner house on Main Street so it does get noisy with cars and buses passing by

Great price and location, a bit dirty and very noisy

  • 4 of 5

The beach house is very close to both the beach and Mission Bay. We had a great time! The house could have been a bit cleaner however. The paneled walls were dusty, the floor needed sweeping and there was "stuff" on the counter tops when we arrived. We cleaned a bit and settled in. Be aware that the house borders Mission Blvd and there is a lot of traffic day and night. It does get noisy but we got used to it. Overall we had a great time and would return.

Cute little place, near the beach

  • 3 of 5

There were some really great things about this place, and some things that just didn't work for us. The location was exactly as it was advertised. The walk to the beach was quick and easy. Having never been to San Diego, we did not realize the amount of places that can be packed into such a little amount of space. It was definitely a bonus to have both parking and a washer/dryer. I would consider these must haves for a family. Now for the down side, we found out when we arrived that there was no air conditioning. It was a bit of a surprise as I did not expect that there would be an option. However, the weather did cooperate and temperature wasn't unbearable. At night, however, with the windows open, and being on the busy street, made it difficult to sleep, unless you aren't bothered by noise. Secondly, there was not dishwasher. Not a deal breaker, but last thing I want to do is dishes while I'm on vacation. The only other thing is that there weren't very many dishes/utensils/etc to use in the kitchen. The last thing is that there were three bikes to use, except that only one of them was in working order. We had to rent bikes, but the place is close enough to walk to. Overall, the place is cute, and we did have a good time, but didn't have all of the things that I'd prefer to have. I'm just leaving this info here so that those choosing this property in the future will have full disclosure of what is and isn't there.

Fabulous little house 30 seconds from beach!

  • 5 of 5

We really loved this house, it was such a fun stay. It is right off of Mission blvd but it's not too loud at night and there is a fence with several gates that help it feel a little more private. Since it was the middle of summer, we had to have the windows open during the day to keep it cool. I would definitely recommend bringing several fans to help circulate the air through the house. Each room does have a ceiling fan which is wonderful. The washer and dryer was fabulous to have, but we did encounter issues with the washer not working well and Corey was so responsive and got a company to come out and look at it. The house was very clean when we arrived and it is stocked with soap, plenty of towels and bedding too. And tons of stuff for the beach! The only thing I would say is the couches could use a deep down cleaning but other than that everything felt perfect. You will not regret renting this place!! We hope to return next summer!

Nice place that needs some TLC.

  • 3 of 5

First the Pros:

1. It's a cute and charming little place. My wife thinks it looks like a Hollister store.

2. Great location in terms of both the beach and bay - both are walking distance, even with beach gear and SUP in tow. Also a liquor/semi-convenience store across the street.

3. Parking! There are 3 dedicated spaces in the alley, making it great for our 2 vehicles which included my full size pickup. MB is a crowded scene, and I watched other families struggling with double parking while loading/unloading, etc.

4. Washer & Dryer on site - truly a must have for an extended stay.

Now the Cons:

1. Noise - it's right on Mission Bay Drive, as well as at the bus stop. Traffic noise is terrible, as well as all the hooting and hollering from the nearby partiers.

2. Seating? 2 seats at the kitchen counter with stools that are the wrong height, and a tiny kitchen table that seats 3 but only has room for 2. Our family of 4 could not sit at the same table for any meal. Unfortunately, the place is small enough that there really is not a place to add a decent table. There are 2 small metal patio tables/chairs that will seat 2, but are not together and fairly rusted.

3. Kitchen supplies seriously lacking. There is a hodgepodge of mismatched silverware, but only enough to get you through 1 meal before hand-washing your dishes (no dishwasher) for the next one. 1 broken spatula. 1 old, crusted frying pan (now there is a nice non-stick one because I bought a new one and left it!).

4. Gas grill - it is shabby and rusted and only 1 burner lights. Not enough heat or grilling space on one burner to do much. Thank goodness for the old charcoal grill that I used instead.

5. AC filter not changed in years. We didn't need AC, thank goodness, but that is seriously the filthiest AC filter I have ever seen. Not just caked with dark brown filth, but an old, bloody band-aid stuck on it as well (bad enough for me to photograph)!

6. No dressers - it's small, so be prepared to live out of your suitcase for the duration. Closets are mostly full already with boxes and linens.

7. Not a big deal, but a persistent problem with tiny ants in the kitchen. We learned on the first night to keep EVERYTHING in Ziplocs.

Overall, this place has great potential. With some updates and TLC, it could really be a charmer. Despite the many cons, I would consider it again because the of the Pros, and because, hey, it's the beach. Who cares when you're at the beach?! We had a wonderful 2 weeks.
