About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms , 4 Baths, Sleeps 12 in 9 Beds!

Wonderful families with children and great for corporate visitors. This luxury, six-bedroom, four-bath home, in an upscale neighborhood at the top of Point Loma, has not only a fantastic view but a panoramic one: of San Diego's skyline, Coronado Bay Bridge, San Diego Bay, and the Laguna Mountains. This view is visible from the dining room, living room, kitchen, family room, master bedroom, den, and the home's three decks. Please note we do not allow large events at this home after 7 pm.

The home is comprised of

2 King Beds

3 Queens Beds

1 Full Bed

3 Twin Beds

1 Full Pull Out Bed

In addition, the living room, dining room, and family room (all with fireplaces) open onto the largest of the three decks - a spacious place to barbecue, dine, lounge, and watch the boats on San Diego Bay.

The kitchen has a new Jenn-Air range, two new microwaves, dishwasher, and all the small appliances you have at home: mixer, electric can opener, coffee maker, toaster, juicer, blender,, and basic staples. The kitchen connects to the formal dining room and family room, and all three have a view of the city skyline, mountains, Coronado bridge, and bay.

The family room has its own deck, fireplace, cable TV, and DVD. It is conveniently next to the kitchen dining area and the home's largest deck - a great place for barbecuing and large-group activities.

The formal living room also has a fireplace, the spectacular cityscape view, and opens onto the spacious deck. The formal dining, with same view, adjoins.

The second-floor master suite has its own deck, a panoramic view of the bay, gas fireplace, California king-size bed, queen-size hide-a-bed, and large desk. The master bath has a Jacuzzi tub, separate shower with bench, two sinks, and large, cedar, walk-in closet.

A separate sleeping area upstairs has a double-size bed and sitting area with view - a perfect area for privacy.

There are three first-floor bedrooms: The first has a queen-size bed and bath/shower. A second bedroom a queen bedand large bay window. The third bedroom has a cal king bed. These bedrooms have California closets installed. There is another bathroom with a shower/tub between bedroom two and three.

A den off the formal living room has a view of the city and bay, a fireplace, a queen-size sofa bed, and double French doors - a great room for the kids.

This home also has a small yard off the main deck, a laundry room with washer and dryer, a barbecue, and plenty of parking.

This home is close to surfing, tide pools, a skateboard park, Cabrillo National Monument, Point Loma Lighthouse, deep-sea fishing and diving, sailing, kayaking, tennis, and golf.

Sea World, Mission Bay, and Sail Bay are just across the bridge. On the bay side of the point, pick up a deep-sea fishing charter in the old Portuguese fishing village of Point Loma, home to the San Diego Yacht Club and Humphrey's By the Bay on Shelter Island.

A short scenic drive from Point Loma around the harbor takes you to the airport, Harbor Island, and the downtown waterfront. On this beautiful bay, you can tour the Aircraft Carrier Museum, the Santa Maria replica, the old Star of India sailing ship, or take a harbor cruise. Stroll further down the bay past cruise ship docks to Seaport Village to eat, shop, or just have an espresso at Upstart Crow, a family-owned bookstore.

Continue south to the waterfront park for the outdoor concerts, or take the ferry across the bay to Coronado Island for lunch or dinner. Walk up Broadway to Horton Plaza, guaranteed a one-of-a-kind mall. A few blocks away is the Gas Lamp District with its great old architecture, sidewalk restaurants, and teeming nightlife.

If you take the Laurel exit off Harbor Drive and follow it up the steep hill to its end, you will be in Balboa Park, home of the San Diego Zoo, Old Globe Theater, Japanese Garden, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, IMAX Theater, and eight museums. Presidio Park and Old Town, the first European settlement in California, are just two exits north of Laurel.

Enjoying the outdoor living space in this beautiful Point Loma home

VRBO Bear stayed here

Apr 5, 2010

The Point Loma area is the place to stay when planning your next family vacation or family reunion in San Diego. Minutes from the airport, this beautiful Point Loma vacation home is close to favorite San Diego attractions such as Sea World, San Diego harbor, downtown San Diego, the Point Loma Lighthouse and the Pacific Ocean. This San Diego home with spectacular views was the ideal setting for our Bear family gathering ---bright, light, spacious and relaxing with extra outdoor living spaces. The upstairs expansive master suite allowed us to get away from it all, with Jacuzzi tub, separate shower, and private deck with, of course, views of the city and harbor. The three bedrooms and three bathrooms on the main level provided privacy for all. And the large kitchen, eating area, comfortable family room and patio area provided an ideal gathering area. Early-bears enjoyed the beautiful sunrises from this home and nighttime views of downtown San Diego were amazing. Also, on our evening walks, we loved watching the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. A real highlight were the walks in this gorgeous Point Loma neighborhood, with Peet’s coffee our destination and Fresh & Easy market close by for groceries. If you have friends or relatives attending Point Loma Nazarene University, you can easily walk from here to campus. I would highly recommend this home for year-round family gatherings, as well as a place for families of PLNU students to stay while visiting their student. The VRBO Bear

Spacious Moana house

  • 4 of 5

We were 7 friends enjoying time away to celebrate our friendship and milestone birthdays. The spacious house was excellent for the size of our group and we especially enjoyed the view and the location (easy to drive to the beach, shopping and attractions). The master bedroom and bathroom were especially roomy. The kitchen, although somewhat outdated, was nicely equipped with the necessary conveniences of home, including two refrigerators.

However, a few complaints would be:

- No window coverings on the large windows in the master bedroom. So once the sun came up at 6:45, it was very bright in the room and difficult to sleep. Also felt very open and conspicuous when dressing and sleeping.

- The piano room smelled very musty (the occupant had to purchase her own Airwick for that room).

- There were missing and broken window cranks on some of the bedroom windows, which was unfortunate since the weather was quite warm and it would've been nice to open all the windows (since there is no A/C).

- Although there are bedrooms on the first floor, there are steps up and down to get into the house. So if a handicap accessible house is what you require, it is not evident that this would work for those needs.

Fantastic property just as presented

This is a beautiful, spacious property absolutely perfect for a large family gathering. We hosted six families, some with children, and everything was wonderful. Very close to Ocean Beach, grocery, and stunning views. I highly recommend for a family wishing to have a vacation.

Property was beautiful!!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the Moana was incredibly spacious so great for large family get togethers. The view was great. Loved all the outside decks. Kitchen was roomy and plenty of space to work in. Nice to have so many bedrooms and bathrooms. The location was great. Ocean Beach is close by and so is the beautiful Sunset Cliffs where we had a photographer come out and take a group picture. Plenty of grocery options and places to eat or take out. Richard met us at the house to give us the keys and show us around. Such a nice young man. He made us feel very comfortable with staying there and gave us recommendations on where to eat and things to see and do. Lisa was great as well. Called us the nite before she left on her vacation to make sure we had Richards number. Very nice to work with. We had a couple of issues but they were taken care of. The ice maker could not keep up with our consumption so it was nice to have another refrigerator in the laundry room where we had a good size freezer for bags of ice. There is a cooler and beach chairs and some sand buckets which was great. The stove and oven was a little hard to figure out and they could use some new pans for cooking. They could make sure if possible to have propane tanks filled or at least let visitors know that they are not filled. We had a little issue with that but it was addressed quickly. Thank You Richard!! Also I wanted to thank the owner for making the house available for 4 or 5 nites instead of 7 nite minimum. Not everyone can be away for the whole 7 days... thank you for that. The house was great and I highly recommend it for anyone especially for a large family get together. Richard I hope you enjoy your vacation and Lisa hope you enjoyed yours. Thank you again for everything. Patti B and family

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We do not provide full propane tanks .If you wish to have a BBQ and the tanks are-low you may bring them to rite aid down the street in Ocean Beach (only 5 minutes away ) for a refill . We do provide two for trade in . We do provide everything you may need at the beach such as beach chairs, ice chest and toys for the little ones. The home is an amazing gem as it offers 5000 square feet ...enough room to get lost in...this is a rare find in San Diego.Thank you for your review. We love what we do! Lisa and Rich

Needs some repairs and updating

  • 3 of 5

The house is very spacious and had a spectacular view. The landscaping was very nice too. Other positive aspects were: Location, useful lighting, house size, # of bathrooms and bedrooms, # of outlets, the location of the decks and balconies, the water pressure and temperature, key appliances were provided, # of towels, and availability of beach equipment (i.e. Toys, cooler, chairs, etc).

Our overall stay was pleasurable, however, we were disappointed on a number of points (noted below).

1. Piano room blinds were partially torn from the top (Rich was made aware during check-in). On Day 3 of our stay the entire blind tore off during the night and the entire bedroom was now visible to outsiders.

2. There was also another torn blind in one of the bedrooms on the 1st floor.

3. The Piano-room smelled very "musty".

4. The sofa in the piano-room, had a back cushion that was ripped and all the stuffing was exposed. This same sofa had stained seated cushions and was just filthy overall.

5. The extra cot was torn and therefore rendered unusable for the duration of our stay.

6. Many of the cranks on the windows were broken/loose. Some were easy to open but then would not close thus having to be manually closed from the outside a single crank at a time.

7. The linens were not clean. A few of the pillowcases had a blue gel on them which washed off easily when actually cleaned.

8. Patio furniture/cushions and patio railings were dusty and web ridden. We spent the first few hours washing the area to make it suitable for use.

9. The coffee pot was not cleaned and many of the dishes were food stained requiring us to re-wash several of them to avoid getting sick.

10. The grill was filthy and not cleaned. Why bother having it if it is not usable.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that you found the house very spacious and had a spectacular view. Location, useful lighting, house size, # of bathrooms and bedrooms, # of outlets, the location of the decks and balconies, the water pressure and temperature, key appliances were provided, # of towels, and availability of beach equipment (i.e. Toys, cooler, chairs, etc). Our overall stay was pleasurable...YAY!!!!! We apologize that you were unhappy with a few other items...and we strive to make your stay PERFECT!!!! The blinds were lopsided and on order upon this guests arrival .We would have gladly put in temporary blinds had we known that they had fallen during their stay...we were not alerted. WE LOVE TO REMEDY ANY ISSUES YOU MAY HAVE DURING YOUR STAY! The blinds have been replaced. The sofa has been addressed We have ditched the torn cot ( it was left by a previous guest) .Windows have been addressed. We have changed our laundry detergent to something that does not leave blue gel behind. We have a lot of spiders in San Diego...they spin their webs every single night... we " de- web " our patios before every guest arrives but cannot control mother nature during your stay. We have discussed your other concerns with our cleaning crew and they will look deeper into the cabinets before guests arrive. Thank you for your review ...guests like you help us run a tighter ship. ...we love the love the feed back ! We are pleased you found the home spacious and spectacular and that your over all stay was pleasurable... ...we love this home too.
